Exams and Results

1 The

provisional results i.e. homework, presentations, and class attendance; should be distributed by the professor concerned before the final examination is undertaken by the students (preferably in the last class of the course prior to the examination).

Usually the professors will specify in his/her first lecture how to evaluate your performance on class participation and assignment etc.
2 Additional,

stamped answer sheets should be provided for students who require them during the examination.

If your need more answer sheets in exams, additional standard sheets will be provided to you. 3 Results Official results should be dispensed by one source in the University and not by the individual schools to prevent any confusion. Previously students had a pass reflected for a certain mathematical degree course in the results displayed by their schools but observed a fail mark when viewing their results as released from another school. Transcripts should be made available at all the various schools at the beginning of the semester. The transcript should show all courses taken from the first semester to the current semester. Example, a second year student in should have all the courses taken in the first year.

GMS

The professors will submit the students grades of the final exams to the Graduate Management System (GMS) within the first two weeks at the beginning of the subsequent semester. And international students can check his/her grades of all the courses at his/her schools or at the College of International Education.
4 Also,

it was brought to light that many students had obtained a fail by only a few marks (between 51 59) in the Stochastic Processes Course final and it would be appreciated if these results / examination papers be reviewed.

If you have any questions concerning your grades, you can apply, in accordance with the relevant regulations of UESTC, to have a double check at the schools that offer the courses concerned. 5 GPA

1The grade Point Average (GPA) should be calculated and shown on the transcript at the end of each semester. For a suggestion, you can consider this below; 90 and above = 4.0, 85-89 = 3.75, 80-84 = 3.5, 7579 = 3.25, 70-74 = 3.0, 65-69 = 2.5, 60-64 = 2.0, below 60 = 0 (fail). The scoring is based on 4.0 GPA system and on the trancsript this score r ange of GPA could be mentioned. 2The total GPA is called Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and it is calculated by adding all the GPAs and dividing by the number of semesters. GPA A1-10261831606 The archive establishment of UESTC is in charge of providing graduates as well as undergraduates with their transcripts and GPAs. Its office is located at Room A1-102 of the Main Building of Qingshuihe Campus. The office phone number is 61831606.

That your office clearly comes out with what is expected of a student

when he/she fails a course. If one fails a course, he/she has to take it again, in accordance with the Course Program and Grades Administration for Postgraduates (International Students).
7 If

possible, students can re-take a course if they are not satisfied with their results so that they can improve on it. Sorry, this is not possible.

curriculum 1 curriculum It has been observed that some courses such as Research Methods is not being offered, this is deemed as a necessary offering especially since the end point of all students requires some form of research and should be offered as a degree course.

2Relevant courses have not been presented for some schools, take for example: Wireless Mobile Communication under the school of communication. 3A suggestion is that major courses for a particular school should be made a degree course. In general the courses for all schools should be reviewed and gaps be filled for the various research areas. The graduate programs and the courses to offer are decided by the faculty of different disciplines at each school. You can make your

suggestions to your supervisor or the staff members in charge of graduates affairs at your school. They may have a discussion on whether to take your suggestions into consideration in case that they revise the program. 2 Course

1There have been the problems with some major schools without any courses mounted for that school. Last semester, there was no course mounted for students in the School of Microelectronics and Solid- State Electronics.
2

Again in this semester, a new student admitted into the School of Energy Science and Engineering also has no courses from his school. And this has put the student in a state of confusion. These are very important and we hope they are resolved soon.

EE At present the excellent faculty members are offering course for international students. Those majoring in disciplines related the electronic science and technology are educated in accordance with the program of electronic engineering (EE). Meanwhile the university may make some changes in courses to be offered each academic year according to the enrolment of oversea students.

others
1 It

has been noted that, appointed supervisors, especially those of the masters students have different research areas from their students which is a major area of concern.

As an international student, in your application to UESTC, you need submit a research proposal so that the student and the supervisor can choose each other. Before the student accomplishes all his/her course work (usually within the first academic year), if the supervisor changes his/her research area, or the student changes his/her research interest, the student usually has an opportunity to transfer to another supervisor with an agreement of both of the supervisors. 2 The diploma or Certificates given to the graduates should have the

same name (major) as the one written in the admission letter. Last year students from the Management School were given a Diploma in Management and Engineering Science but not a Diploma in Management and E-Commerce. Information Management and E-Commerce is one of the research areas of the discipline of Management Science and Engineering, and UESTC is permitted by the government of P. R. China to award doctoral degree and masters degree to the candidates. That is why students were given a diploma in Management Science and Engineering.
3 Lack

of regular meeting between students and supervisors is also a cause for concern, especially with masters students.

In accordance with Learning Manual for Postgraduates (International Students), the international student should report to his/her supervisor about his/her progress in research work during the period when the student is writing his/her thesis or dissertation.
