Bangladesh RMG Market

Writing and Presenting Research Report Module

Abstract of an Article Developing Core Competence in the Export Oriented Readymade Garments (RMGs) Firms of Bangladesh Developing Core Competence in the Export Oriented Readymade Garments (RMGs) Firms of Bangladesh Abstract: As the Multi- Fibre Arrangement has already been abolished since 2005 under WTO rules, Bangladeshi Readymade Garments (RMG) firms are no longer enjoying quota and these firms have to face challenge in the competitive international market. Quota system affects an economy in two different dimensions. Economies which are not competent enough in the international market can have share of the market taking the advantage of quota allocated to it. On the other hand, economies which are competent enough can not enjoy as much market share as they can afford because those can not cross the limit of the quota. After phasing out of MFA the economies of the first kind (i.e. Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan) are going to suffer by losing global market share and the economies of the second kind (i.e. China, Thailand) are anticipated to gain more share of the global market. In the RMG sector, Bangladesh lacks core competence as the managerial, physical and organisational resource factors are not managed effectively. Secondly, the market share of this sector is on an average low to both US and EU market if we compare with India and China. Finally, Bangladesh cannot satisfy the high quality demand of the market as the quality of the RMG is not good enough to satisfy the standard of international market. Now the question is whether the Bangladeshi firms are able to compete in a new situation where on the one hand, the competent players have free competition and on the other hand the competition will be determined by managing strategic resources for quality performance of the business. In this context this paper will envisage through empirical study the resource based view of the firms to develop core competence in this important sector of the Bangladesh economy. Results from this study should be of interest to policy makers and other stake-holders in RMG sector in Bangladesh. Key Words: Core competence, Export, Readymade Garments, Firms, Multi- fibre Arrangement and Economy.

An explanation of where this abstract would be submitted for publication As a Doctoral Research student I have come across many research papers that have been published in various refereed journals. Among them International Marketing Review (IMR) is one of the top ranked journals of international standard. The ideal article for this type of journal is one which is interesting, makes a significant contribution to knowledge, explores the practical implications of the work and is technically robust. Moreover, this refereed journal that publishes primarily the results of significant basic or applied research in international marketing or comparative business. It also publishes significant conceptual or theoretical contributions that augment knowledge in the field or those articles that advance educational methodology. Its principal audience consists largely of scholars, researchers, consultants and academics in international marketing and business. My paper is on exports of RMG firms of Bangladesh. The garment industry is the backbone of the economy of Bangladesh. Apart from providing employment to millions and 70% of its foreign exchange earnings, the RMG firms have made Bangladesh a respected name in international commerce. I believe that the theme of my paper is interesting and it will focus some challenging issues regarding exports and economies of Bangladesh. For the above reasons the paper is suitable for publication in IMR. Need an essay? You can buy essay help from us today!
