SUBJECT ROUTINE REPORT FROM MARCH JULY 2012

My name is MR. ERNEST P.PAUL from National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. I am the Focal Person designated to liaise with Galaxy Backbone on LAN Related Issues. Below is my routine report and activities covering March July, 2012. I have equally attached a summary of the activities in Excel worksheet format as well as some scanned copies of Faults Reporting/Clearance forms

TREASURY SINGLE ACCOUNT(TSA) With the implementation of the TSA policy, our routine interagency transactions was disrupted. After a formal report to the Manager Field Service/Technical crew at the Federal Secretariat and with team work, the issue was resolved. We have resumed our routine administration and connectivity of uploading files to the TSA system. NATIONAL SALARIES,INCOMES AND WAGES COMMISSION WEBSITE(NSIWC) We have an active website which we update regularly. Suddenly, we could not upload our updates any longer. Upon enquiry from the Help Desk, I was informed that some ports were blocked to prevent/minimize illegitimate traffic on the Network. When we convinced the Technical team on the need for the ports, the ports were reopened and we can now upload our updates. JUSTIFICATION FOR THE LAN NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR TRAINING PROGRAMME The LAN Network Administrator Training held early this year has boosted my ability to troubleshoot and administer my Commissions LAN Network. This accounts for the less incidences of Fault Reports from my organization. It is my humble request that more of such trainings be organized on periodical basis to refresh and keep us abreast of the latest innovations in the ICT world.

NEED FOR PRIOR NOTIFICATION OF IMPENDING OUTAGES/ROUTINE MAINTENANCE I wish to report that I have not been receiving prior notifications of your Preventive Network Maintenance or impending Total Loss of Connectivity. Between 23rd July and 31st July 2012, we experienced total loss of connection. Upon enquiry, I was informed that Main One submarine fibre optic cable was down. In the same month, Galaxy Backbone changed the IP address ranges and Subnet mask which inadvertently affected our LAN infrastructures since most of our Servers and Network printers use static IP addresses. I resolved this issue by changing the IP addresses of all affected hardware infrastructures to reflect the new IP Ranges and our LAN bounced back. In this regard, may I request that henceforth prior notification of impending updates or outages be sent to me so as to enable me brief my superiors, if and when such disruption of service do occur.
