2012 Ranking: 17th Largest Export Market for U.S. Goods (2011: 19th)
Following the 2004 signing of a U.S.-UAE Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), talks between the U.S. and the UAE expanded to TIFA Plus status in 2006 in an effort to maintain momentum and build upon strong economic ties. The United Arab Emirates was the largest destination in the Arab world for U.S. goods in 2012, reaching $22.57 billion, an increase of 41.9 percent from 2011 figures. Imports from the UAE to the U.S. fell, however, to $2.24 billion in 2012, down 8.2 percent. Top U.S. goods imports from the UAE included Primary Metal Manufacturing (at $716.77 million), Goods Returned (at $666.86 million), and Miscellaneous Manufactured Commodities (at $224.61 million). The data in this publication are drawn from the U.S. Bureau of the Census using the latest U.S. export information. Export numbers may understate total U.S. exports because county-specific information for some products (e.g., mining, forestry, fishing, and waste and scrap) is not available.
