Dissertation:PreachingandTechnology:AStudyofAttitudesandPractices. Thestudyextendsthehistoricalstudyofpreachingasarhetoricalartbyexaminingtheimpact oftechnologyuseontheethosofthepreacher.Theresultsindicatethatpreachersand parishionerswhoareregularattendeesstillconceiveofthesermonasanoralgenre,andthus, donotseetheuseoftechnologyasamajormarkerofethos.Rather,ethosislocatedinthe waysthepreacherconnectsorallywiththecongregation,whichismorelikelytobeimpeded bythanhelpedbytheuseoftechnology.Forpreacherswhowishtousetechnologyin preaching,thestudysuggestsdeliberateusethatdirectlyandexplicitlyconnectstheoral presentationtothevisualforparishionersasthemosteffectivewaytousethetechnology andmaintainapositiveethos.
