Title of Activity: Wireless Communication

Number of Teams & Group Size: Minimum 3 people per group Maximum 6 people per group At least 3 teams for competition

Logistics Needed: Various Props (Suggested): Chair Paper Cup Jug of Water Marker Hat / Cap Toothpick

Time Allocated: 15 - 30 minutes

Goal: To successfully complete the assigned task

Preparation & Set-Up: Ensure sufficient props for each team Place all the props for each team in a different area from other teams props (Preferably in each corner of a room, or against a wall) Prepare a few sets of instructions. - ie: Direct the Listener to wear the hat, sit on the chair, pour a cup of water, and drink it. Direct the Listener to place the marker in the cup, and cover the top with the paper. Direct the Listener to place 1 foot on the chair, break the toothpick in half, and overturn the cup. Direct the Listener to write their name on the paper.

Directions for Conducting the Activity: 1. Ask each team to select their best Listener. Bring the Listener to the area where the props are set-up for each group. Instruct them that the Listener cannot

speak, and cannot look at any other group members. They cannot move unless told to do so. 2. Ask each team to select their best Communicator. Bring the Communicator away from the group, and position him / her facing towards the group, and away from the Listener. Instruct them that the Communicator cannot move, and must only be looking at the other group members. They cannot look at the Listener. 3. Inform participants that everyone cannot speak, except for the Communicators. Tell them you will give each group a set of instructions, which they must mime to their Communicators. The Communicators will then tell the Listeners what to do. 4. Show, or whisper, the instructions to each group.

Specific Rules: 1. The Listener cannot speak, or look at any of the other group members. They can only move when instructed to do so by the Communicator. 2. The Communicator cannot move or look at the Listener, and must only be looking towards the other group members. The Communicator must tell the Listener what to do. 3. The remaining group members cannot speak, and must mime to the Communicator the instructions for the Listener.

Variations: 1. Blindfold the Listeners for added challenge.

Facilitator Notes: Observe participants during the activity, especially the Communicators and Listeners, to ensure they dont cheat. When giving instructions, ensure the Communicators and Listeners cannot see or hear it.
