Implementations in cinema Implementation of my stereoscopic 3D conversion method in the context of cinema industry Why should we use it Film and

movie making is a from of art but it is always woven with technical acc omplishment. From the emancipation, this particular form of art has seen many a changes in the form of technology and also regarding its applications in various ways. From silent to sound to soundtrack, from black and white to colour, from 35mm to 70mm, 2D to stereoscopic 3D... the process is a never ending saga. But e ventually the usages of new technologies have benefited the artists and liberate d this media. My conversion technology is just another aid into the hand of the artists to make cinema more engrossing and to the people who loves cinema, anoth er small reason to love it a little more. Value addition from the commercial perspective Conversion from a monoscopic or a two-dimensional image to a stereoscopic three dimensional image is a hugely challenging undertaking. As we know the stereoscop ic vision is only possible when we have the depth-of-field vision of an image (w hich is the z-axis value in a 3D plane). A monoscopic or the 2D image does not h ave the z-axis value, so we have to find a substantial value of the z-axis by an alysing the 2D image to create a perfect stereoscopic 3D representation of it. V arious approaches has been tried before by various researchers to full-fill the ultimate goal of getting a considerable realistic stereoscopic 3D representation from a monoscopic image source. No single method is considered better than the other as all of them creates the z-axis by some artificial or mechanical way. Mo st of these highly expensive methods generally yield results which are far from the true proportion and also some of these methods can not convert from a single image source, they are generally used in movies and videos. All the current met hods in vogue are rather expensive and needs highly skilled artists and producti on tools to do the conversion process. Presently, the cost of conversion for per minute of a film from 2D to stereoscopic 3D is around $25000 to $100000 in USA (Source: Wikipedia). From the context of the conversion process each image is almost unique and holds its own challenges; so, one must use an intelligent and rational approach to de cipher the depth-of-field from a 2D image. To create a stereoscopic 3D, we need two pictures one from the perspective of the left eye and one from the perspecti ve of the right eye. These two pictures will finally create the stereoscopic 3D representation with the aid of a special glass. Once we have the two pictures, o ne for the left eye vision and another for the right eye vision; then there are various methods (Anaglyph, Shutter Glass, Polarised Glass etc.) available to cre ate a stereoscopic 3D picture from it. Nobody can deny the market economics side of a film. Unless a venture shows fina ncial success it becomes harder for the financier to try again for that kind of a venture. Every producer loves profit, so here is a way to earn a bit more from the venture which has exhausted its capacity to yield returns from the market. For example, a film which might be a blockbuster in its first run, but after a c ertain time it can stop giving good revenues to the producer. If we convert it t o a stereoscopic3D it may again be re-released in various forms like in theaters , in DVDs and other deliverable medias to yield profit again, as the film alread y has proved its box-office success the producer has to think only about the mar keting part. Value addition from the aesthetic perspective To many of us - a film is a form of art and integral part of culture and society , many great directors, editors, cinematographers and various technical masters h ave used this form of art to reach a higher-ground of creativity and sensitivity . The film study will surely be benefited from this sort of conversion where a t

wo-dimensional picture gets liberated to a stereoscopic three-dimensional life l ike image. It can open up new perspective to study the great masters' art and op portunity to learn more about this fascinating media. At the end, I must state that film conversion is a painstaking process like any difficult art there is no short cut to the success it needs skill, patience, kno wledge and understanding to make it perfect my technology is only an aid to do i t right.
