Also see Saimaa Canal OVERVIEW: The port area consists of a harbour protected from the north by the Castle bridge passing over the strait near the Castle of Vyborg and by the Smolyanoy point from the west. The port is open for navigation all year round (from December until April with ice-breaker assistance). PORT LIMITS: Fairways and anchorages to the east from 28_ 24' E and to the north from 60_ 34' N. Vysotsk: From the end of Pier No. 4 to the southern extremity of the southern mole of the entrance, thence along the line of moles to the northern extremity of the northern entrance mole, thence to the first group of wooden piles (Lat. 60_ 36' 09" N, Long. 28_ 33' 20" E) thence along the line of wooden piles to Lat. 60_ 37' 28" N, Long. 28_ 33' 26" E, thence to Lat. 60_ 37' 17" N, Long. 28_ 33' 41" E thence to the end of Pier No. 4. MAX. SIZE: Vysotsk: LOA 200 m., draft 9.3 m. Tankers: LOA 250 m., draft 13.2 m. Vessels exceeding max. LOA and max. draft must obtain Harbour Masters permission. DENSITY: 1001 1002. RESTRICTIONS: Vessels are not allowed to enter or leave the port when winds exceed Force 6. At night-time, LOA 125 m., draft 6.0 m., or LOA 105 m. and draft 6.2 m. (Kronstadt datum). Vysotsk: Vessels are not allowed to enter or leave the port when winds exceed 15 m./sec. At night, LOA 135 m., draft 7.0 m. APPROACHES: The Vyborg Fairway leads from the entrance to the Gulf of Vyborg across the Transund roadstead up to the entrance of the Inner Vysotsky Roads. The Vyborg Sea Channel (least depth 6.9 m.) leads from the Inner Vysotsky Roads into the port, situated at the head of the Gulf. Both of these and the Fairway and the Channel, are open for navigation any time of day or night. PILOTAGE: Compulsory, available throughout 24 hours. Pilots board and disembark at the Reception Buoy, 5.1 cables westward of the northern point of the Mayachny Island (pilot station of the Vikhrevoy Island) and at the Brusnichnoe Lock berth or in the Lock itself. In the case of rough weather when safe boarding or landing of a Pilot at the Reception Buoy is impossible a vessel, with the Masters consent, may board or land a Pilot east of Vikhrevoy Island. Communication between pilot boat and vessel by VHF Channel 10. ANCHORAGES: There are five anchorages at Vyborg Fairway and at Vyborg Sea Channel areas. Anchorage positions are shown on the chart. The holding ground in the anchorages is sand, mud, stone and clay. Depth 11.0 17.0 m. PRATIQUE: International code quarantine signals to be shown on arrival. Vessels placed in quarantine will be instructed where to anchor by the Pilot. The Gulf usually becomes frozen over by the middle of December and the last ice finally disappears in April. Whilst tidal range in the Gulf of Vyborg is small, considerable changes in the water level may be caused by strong winds (up to 1.6 m.), and the seasonal increase of the amount of water brought down from the land. ETA must be given to Capiport 12 hours prior to arrival. Vessels should send an amendment to their ETA if it changes by 1 hour or more at least 4 hours prior to arrival. Master must also give the expiration date of the Oil Pollution Liability Certificate and state insurers name. Vessels shall notify the pilot station of Pilot requirement 2 hours prior to departure.
