production data. Flexible, user-defined update options allow data to be refreshed at predetermined intervals, as frequently as every second. Data can be viewed either in real time for critical operations such as logging and stimulation, or by scheduling periodic updates and setting exception or alarm events for less critical operations. Processed and interpreted data, offered worldwide by Schlumberger Data & Consulting Services (DCS) centers, can also be exchanged and shared by asset teams and partners within the InterACT environment.
The InterACT system does not require specialized software. Information is downloaded to the end users computer or viewed using interactive, customizable graphics viewers. Data can also be streamed into other local applications for further manipulation and interpretation.

Formation evaluation
Matching local knowledge and global resources to specific reservoir issues can solve local problems, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. The offsite experts can collaborate on information as it is being acquired and interpreted in real time. This capability provides a critical link in optimized wireline services and facilitates faster decisions for better acquisition, sampling, wellsite PVT analysis, testing, and diagnosis. With the InterACT systems two-way communication capability, messages from the wellsite acquisition console can be instantaneously transmitted, and quick intervention decisions can be made based on rapid data delivery and interpretation. Data acquired by wireline tools such as the PLT* Production Logging Tool or the MDT* Modular Formation Dynamics Tester, are displayed on an embedded graphical and numeric display. Samples from the MDT tool
Real-time monitoring of LWD and MWD data reduces risk and improves drilling results.
The InterACT system can support data from all stages of drilling, production, completion, and formation evaluation operations.
can be analyzed at the wellsite with the PVT Express* onsite well fluid analysis service and reports sent to the office for real-time decision making. The system enables files with the acquired data to be produced for export into other applications for further manipulation and interpretation. The InterACT system can also transmit messages and publish job results and other types of information to enhance the knowledge base. This capability makes the collaboration process more efficient by virtually eliminating communications that are typically faxed or e-mailed. As a result, the InterACT system not only has a significant impact on the time and cost of wireline operations, it also helps reduce safety and environmental concerns.
Well completions
Well stimulation services
Applying knowledge and resources to specific reservoir issues is indispensable to meeting local challenges, increasing efficiency, and reducing costs. Global resources, conveyed using information technology, provide a critical link in optimized stimulation services. Today, specialists
can monitor real-time data and supervise critical well stimulation jobs, compare actual in situ tests with the predicted design, and optimize the treatment as it is executed. The result is an improved and seamless decision-making process that can help ensure the best possible results. The InterACT system connects experts from multiple locations to remote job sites anywhere in the world. Specialists can collaborate in real time to leverage and focus global resources on the job as it is executed. When used with the FracCAT* fracture treatment system and FracCADE* fracture design and evaluation software, the InterACT system makes stimulation data available for display on an embedded graphical and numeric display. A wide range of treatment parameters can be displayed, including a pressure-rate-density plot and a Nolte-Smith plot. Combining these systems provides a powerful
platform for seamless operation of the PowerSTIM* well optimization service. PowerSTIM service integrates Schlumberger petrophysical expertise and reservoir knowledge with completion design, execution, and evaluation to provide a production optimization solution.
Engineers from multiple locations can participate in stimulation and cementing operations using the InterACT system.
Cementing
Correctly interpreting critical offshore cementing data can mean the difference between either continued drilling or days of remedial work. Today, offsite specialists can monitor real-time data, supervise critical operationssuch as cementing squeeze jobs, subsea blowout preventer tests, leakoff tests, and formation integrity testsand compare the actual results of the operation to the predicted design. The result is a better decision-making process that can help ensure the best possible results for the well.
Remote, real-time capability is often critical when new technology is used. Collaboration with remote experts can help extract maximum value and ensure the testing technology delivers its full potential. The results are better well-testing decisions and cost reductions, especially in high-cost environments such as deepwater or multizone drillstem testing. Well testing data, transmitted from the wellsite, are accessible by computers using the graphical and digital viewers embedded in the InterACT system. Wellsite comments describing
the critical operational events (the testing events log) can be superimposed over the graphic viewer to facilitate a common understanding for all who are observing the job regardless of their location. In addition, a chat feature is included to facilitate real-time collaboration. At anytime during or after the test, data can be downloaded and imported into exploration and production software tools for further analysis. The results and reports are posted back into the InterACT system, which allows Schlumberger DCS experts to provide relevant interpretation in collaboration with operator personnel.
Production
Monitoring and surveillance of production enable marked improvements in well productivity. Using the InterACT system to deliver real-time production data enables a family of production related workflows. The ProductionWatcher* real-time remote surveillance of producing assets uses the InterACT system to transmit relevant data from the wellsite and then interprets pressure transient events or updates the reservoir simulation model from the data.
Well testing
Secure monitoring of well testing operations via the Internet has a significant impact on planning and executing well testing operations. Regardless of location, the InterACT system allows offsite expertise, not normally available at the wellsite, to be focused on a well test, so informed decisions can be made and implemented in a timely manner. With all the pertinent well testing data and reports available, offsite experts can modify and optimize well test programs, while they are being run, to greatly improve results.
Well testing data are available in the office when and where needed.
The InterACT system enables remote diagnostic checks of pump performance using the espWatcher system.
Artificial lift systems and permanent well monitoring make use of the InterACT system to enable remote surveillance and control with alarms and callouts. Data acquired by the espWatcher* monitoring system for electric submersible pumps enable real-time performance diagnosis of producing wells as well as regular well health checks. Remote diagnostic checks can improve both pump and well performance as reservoir, production, and wellbore configurations change. These changes can have a significant impact on production. The espWatcher service is complemented by the LiftPro* service. LiftPro is a service for the diagnosis and remediation of under-performing artificially lifted wells and a powerful tool to increase production. The result is extended pump run life, reduced downtime, and a reduced number of well intervention activities.
Partner access
The InterACT system provides secure authorized external access to data through the same controls and processes employed for internal team members. Because data reside centrally, there is no need for continual update and distribution. Authorizations for specific elements can be extended to approved vendors, customers, and partners, securely and efficiently across a scalable infrastructure.
Schlumberger connectivity solutions allow secure communications with offices and facilities around the world. Using proprietary transfer protocols, robust data transfer can be ensured, even with marginal communication links. Data are compressed for efficiency, and automatic link recovery resolves problems caused from temporary telecommunications breaks. The InterACT system provides wellinstrumented and resilient networks designed for quality of service. Network performance management is applied 24/7 for monitoring end-toend compliance to service levels and to enable proactive resolution of any performance issues. As a result, the InterACT system can be safely used worldwide even on bandwidthconstrained networks.
Q: Can the InterACT system be used on tools and data from service companies other than Schlumberger?
A: Yes, the InterACT system uses industry standard protocols and is a very flexible system. We recognize that a number of service companies construct wells. However, it is often desirable to go to only one Web location to monitor operations and access data.
Q: What happens when a file upload is suspended for several hours (e.g., a lost link)?
A: An upload that has not been active for more than 6 hr is automatically closed.
Q: How does the InterACT system adapt from well construction to production and process?
A: In well construction, the timing of activities and events are generally known, and data transmission requirements can be high for relatively short periods. In production, additional features to the Schlumberger production-related services (e.g., artificial lift systems, and permanent well monitoring) make use of the InterACT system to enable remote surveillance and control with alarms and callouts. The InterACT system then enables a family of production-related workflows.
Q: Are there certain high-volume data well operations from a new generation of tools that cannot be monitored remotely; for example, imaging logging tools or resistivity/nuclear LWD strings?
A: The InterACT system is able to support these high-data volume services in real time. For certain operations, higher bandwidths may be required.
