Sunday delivery? Problem solved.

ProFlowers started in 1998 with a single farm in California, shipping 500 rose bouquets for Valentines Day. In 2010, the online floral company delivered more than 200,000 Valentines Day orders. On a Sunday. The idea of cost-effective Sunday delivery came up at the companys annual assessment with FedEx in the summer of 2009. ProFlowers needed a solution in time for Valentines Day 2010, which would fall on a Sunday. What were the options? Less than nine months later, FedEx Ground and FedEx Express combined to open up Sunday delivery to 21,000 ZIP codes in 45 states for ProFlowers. Central to the programs success was the proximity of 10 ProFlowers distribution centers to key FedEx shipping centers. Add to that a streamlined sorting and labeling system, and ProFlowers was able to take online orders until 6 p.m. on Feb. 13, the Saturday night before Valentines Day. The next morning, a fleet of trucks (with an assist from two aircraft) made sure all the Valentines Day deliveries went through. The system worked so well that we use it to help ProFlowers on the important flower delivery Sunday that comes every year: Mothers Day.

Making great service cross borders for Neiman Marcus

Selling goods directly to online customers gets complicated when the order has to cross an international border. For Neiman Marcus, determining the cost of duties and taxes prohibited its Canadian customers from getting merchandise delivered straight to their homes. Instead, packages ordered online for delivery in Canada had to be picked up at the local post office, where the customer would then find out the true cost of the purchase. Today, its a much simpler process. Combining the capabilities of FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Trade Networks, FedEx Office, and FedEx Freight, we created two solutions that helped the upscale clothing store expand its customer service with direct delivery in Canada. We integrated a duty-and-fee calculator directly into the Neiman Marcus website. Then we developed a way for Canadian customers to return unwanted items to regional sites in Canada, reducing the cost and hassle of returns by keeping the customers side of the process within the country.

We do more than just move your high-tech and high-value-added goods. We move them with intelligence and precision.

Todays high-value-added goods range from smartphones and tablet computers that consumers simply want now, to vaccines that people desperately need now.
We can move hundreds of thousands of the latest electronic devices to hundreds of thousands of addresses on the same day. Or we can ensure that one medical device arrives safely at exactly the right moment to help save a life. When the customer is one of the worlds largest electronics manufacturers, on-time delivery is very specific. Its often calibrated not to the day, but to the hour. And it requires simultaneous delivery to thousands of locations. Our solutions weave together customs clearance, security, and our ability to move massive quantities of goods at once. For the biggest electronics companies, we create solutions that can put 50,000 items on a 777F in China, move them to the U.S., hold them in specially created sorting locations, and then use our technology

to make sure every item is where its supposed to be until its supposed to move elsewhere. Since forecasts for new products can be unreliable, our customers require a flexible partner that can respond to inventory needs as demand changes. We have additional planes, pilots, and airport reservations available as needed to ensure our customers never have to worry about an empty shelf amid high demand.

High-value-added goods require monitored movement before they even enter the delivery process.

For the most critical goods, precise control

For decades, weve moved packages around the world. With our Deep Frozen Shipping Solution, we can maintain precise temperatures throughout the journey in a way that changes lives. Cenetron Diagnostics, a premier provider of molecular laboratory services, ships temperaturesensitive clinical trial samples all over the world. Our system brings pre-charged liquid nitrogen dry-vapor containers to the company for loading, and from the moment the delicate packages enter our care, we provide active monitoring and intervention as needed. We can hold temperatures at minus-150 degrees Celsius for up to 10 days. Using dry ice requires re-icing every two or three days. For customers involved with clinical trials, diagnostics, biotechnology, or pharmaceuticals manufacturing, such precise temperature control is essential to make sure that lifesaving medicines and materials arrive intact.

Need to source and sell globally? Well shrink the world for you.

In an interconnected global economy, opportunity is everywhere. Today, businesses must get what they need, when they need it, from anywhere in the world.
We make it possible for businesses to create partnerships between companies based 10 time zones apart. Need inventory by Wednesday? We can create a solution with time-definite, customs-cleared, doorto-door delivery from remote locations. Consider the fast-moving world of fashion. Louis Vuitton asked us: How could we ensure that its stores never miss a sale because an item isnt on the shelf? If a customer buys the Keepall Monogram bag at 11 p.m. at a Louis Vuitton store in Las Vegas, how can we get another one there before the store opens the next morning? FedEx Express, FedEx Custom Critical, and FedEx Ground together created solutions that range from decentralizing Louis Vuittons U.S. warehousing to establishing a delivery system that gets merchandise out of the warehouse quickly and

makes restocking invisible to the design houses upscale customers. Louis Vuitton stores have little room for inventory. That Keepall Monogram bag might be the only one in the store, and we make it possible to replace it in about six hours. In keeping with Louis Vuittons efforts to minimize its environmental impact, we use hybrid trucks for all pickups and final deliveries.

Speed up crossing the border.

When you manufacture products in Mexico and distribute throughout North America, your first shipping challenge is to get the goods through customs and across the border. At borders, everything slows down except the costs. We offered Hunter Douglas, a leading manufacturer of custom-made window fashions, an integrated solution beginning with in-house, point-of-origin scanning of packages at its factory in Rosarito, Mexico. Another part of the solution was improved import clearance and freight forwarding at the border. We also found a way to allow later drop-off times at a new distribution terminal in Otay Mesa, Calif., so that Hunter Douglas could get shipments out to customers as late as 8 p.m. We managed a four-month test of the system to ensure a successful transition. The changes reduced customer service calls related to same-day pickups and facilitated the shipment of small parcels, which account for 80 percent of Hunter Douglas orders.

We make new global business models possible for companies large and small.
A decade ago it would have been unthinkable: a small company with no headquarters, its eight key executives spread from Sydney to London to California, its warehouses on four continents, and a workforce anchored by garment workers in Shanghai and California housewives working part time fulfilling orders. But thats the reality we helped create for Loudmouth Golf, which sells outrageously gaudy pants made famous by golfer John Daly and the Norwegian curling team in the 2010 Olympics. Sales have grown from $64,000 in 2003 to a projected $15 million in 2011. What makes it possible? Connections that create a versatile supply chain to move goods to customers around the world. Its a new way to do business lean, adaptive to customer needs, responsive to market opportunities. New product lines will propel the companys sales, but the ability to make connections across continents will maintain its creative momentum. Its a simple formula: innovative ideas plus the solutions that move products around the world.

The bag is placed on a long-haul truck destined for Vegas and a morning delivery.

9:00 A.M.
The replacement bag is delivered to the store and on the shelf before store employees finish their first cups of coffee.

We keep your supply chains running and inventory moving with the speed and precision global business requires.

When the worlds economy turned down, business tightened up. Todays world is one of rigid inventory controls and streamlined supply chains.
Solutions that turn time into money have never been more important. Consider the auto industry. Some nights, a leading automakers parts distribution center ships 3,500 pieces to each of its parts depots around the country. Its customers want service now, and tracking down individual parts wastes time. The closer a part is to the car that needs it, the better. FedEx Air Container Pricing moves thousands of individual parts in a single container. Before, each part was placed in its own, labeled box and scanned individually. That required numerous boxes, labels, and scans, even though they all went to the same parts depot to be distributed to auto repair centers. Now, our solution allows distribution centers to put parts for each depot directly into air containers that fit snugly against the interior of our airplanes. One container, one label, and hours of packing and scanning saved.

Fitting rooms, delivered to your door.

A leading Chinese retailer for upscale designers, such as Armani and Valentino, wanted to make it easier for its customers to buy high-end designer clothing online. But the retailer faced a difficult problem: Where to put the fitting room? We created a service where a FedEx courier delivers the fashion order and waits at the door while a customer tries on items. Dont want it? Hand it back to the courier, and youre done. China is considered a land of opportunity for highend fashion: Almost 1 million people now have personal wealth of more than $1 million each. Weve made it easier for this retailer to attract the elite by taking its customer service to a new level.

We keep downtime from turning into lost money.

If youre one of the worlds largest manufacturers of automated teller machines, time is money. When an ATM stops working, the manufacturer risks financial penalties if it fails to fix the machine within tight deadlines. Often these deadlines are only four hours out not much time if the part you need is hundreds of miles away. That puts a lot of pressure on technicians to make sure they can access the parts they need right away. With Critical Inventory Logistics, weve created a solution that makes parts readily available, sometimes as close as the nearest FedEx Office location. With more than 220 stocking locations throughout the United States and Canada, an ATM technician can pick up a part within 30 minutes of ordering it, or we can deliver it by courier within two hours. By holding parts where theyre needed, we can meet nearly 93 percent of demand within two hours.
