The Children are our future, It is often stated that children are the worlds most valuable resources and assets, but the rights of these children throughout the world are largely ignored often resulting in to tragic outcomes. The daily newspapers are agog with issues relating to child abuse. Near about 40 million children around the world suffer from abuse and maltreatment. The child abuse can be defined as all form of physical or emotional treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment or commercial or other exploitation, resulting in actual and potential harm to the childs right, health, and survival development A study shows that the age group of 4-15 is the higest susceptible to abuse. If we study certain cases of child abuse from Orissa over thwe last 5 years the rate is increasing day by day. The cases of child abuse are not confined to urban but also in rural areas, and from lower class to higher class of intelligentia. It is high time that Government, civil societies and concerned citizens to play a more active role in the promotion, respect and appreciation of the rights of the child. In the year 2000 Womens World Summit Foundation (WWSF) lunched the World Day of Preventation on Child Abuses, and is commemorated every year on November 19. The sustained advocacy and activity is required in order to build societal commitments for child safety and for protection. It should be our mission individually and collectively to stand for zero tolerance for child abuse and violence against children.
