Giving Excuses: Think again. Think twice before making excuses being late. Everybody would have made at some point or other made excuses like I was not feeling well ; Had a flat tyre ; Ran out of fuel ; Bike had a starting problem ; Guests arrived at home. Somebody in the family was not well. Any delay on part of the employees will be assessed based on his attitude towards his work. For instance, a habitual late comers excuses will certainly be viewed suspiciously. So if you are not punctual; you would better learn to be quickly. It will pay you in the long run. Hence, the best piece of advice to be followed religiously is the most obvious one, Dont be late.

Safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation are prerequisites for health. They are closely linked with poverty, child deaths and gender inequality. Lack of access to safe drinking water has severe consequences for peoples health and livelihood. Improving water supply and sanitation (WSS) are key to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.Lack of water for washing and for sanitation results in a proliferation of bacterial and parasitic disorders. Its estimated that around 200million people are exposed to drinking water with high levels of arsenic. If we can supply clean drinking water and provide good sanitation facilities, combined with health education and hygienic behavior, then we can reduce water related illnesses. Hand washing with soap, Safe disposal of human excreta and safe water handling and storage are cost effective means of avoiding water borne diseases. The simple practice of washing hands with soap can reduce the rates of dysentery and cholera by 85%. All these are possible if we will educate and empower the community, NGOs and government institutions, about water quality and to take action to protect the health of communities. By developing comprehensive water management strategies at the regional, national and local levels we can promote both equitable access to adequate supplies of clean and safe water for drinking and washing.

Bhabani Shankar Mishra, Program Manager, BISWA. Another blood donation camp was also organized by BISWA at Balipatna and Balianta Block of District Khurdha on this Republic Day. With the technical guidance of Dr. Sisir Ku. Mishra, Blood Bank Officer, Unit-6, Bhubaneswar twenty members donated blood on this day. Mr. Rabi Ratan Das, Hon. Secretary, Red Cross, Orissa State branch, Bhubaneswar was the chief guest in the camp. Mr. Manoj Ku. Mohapatra, District Coordinator, Khurdha, the Area Coordinators Mr. Manash Ranjan Mohanty, Mr. Ambika Prasad Mishra, Mr. Ranjan Jena and Mr. Ashok Pusty were also present during the camp on behalf of BISWA.

TOTAL SANITATION CAMPAIGN AND ROLE OF BISWA

Safe drinking water and sanitation are critical determinants of public health. Together, they can reduce the burden of communicable diseases. Though Centre and State Governments have expanded budgetary support for Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) but the unfinished task, particularly in sanitation, is enormous. Although we have positive economic growth indicators, but due to lack of awareness we flipside as far as sanitation campaign is concerned. Its very poignant to know that total sanitation may not be achieved even in the next 10 years. In the mid-term appraisal of the Tenth Plan (2002-07), the Planning Commission says only 17 per cent of rural households have access to improved sanitation while in the urban areas, nearly 60 per cent of households have access to improved sanitation and 70 per cent of the total population has no access to hygienic toilets. As there is a direct relationship between water, sanitation and health, so the importance of sanitation cant be derelicted. At the Third World Water Forum held in Kyoto three years ago, policymakers acknowledged the link between reduced diarrohea risk and good sanitation and debated the best ways to encourage households to install toilets. Many organizations are working in Total Sanitation Campaign in various parts of the country. BISWA as a leading social organization in Orissa is trying hard to provide 100 percent improved sanitation in rural areas of the State in next 10 years. It is spreading the importance of sanitation through Information, Education and Communication (IEC) procedure. Recently, it has organized a sensitization program on TSC in collaboration with Gram Vikash on 14th Dec 2006 at village Nuapali of Bheden Block. More than 300 persons attended the program which disposal of human excreta in rural areas. On behalf of BISWA Mr. Lingaraj Dash, Asst. Planning Manager, Mr. Purnachandra Mohapatra, Dist. Program Officer, Mr. Bijay Meher, Organizer, Bheden were present during the program and on behalf of Gram Vikash Mr. Gangaram Panigrahi, Senior Sanitation Manager, Mr. Bijoy Dash, District Coordinator and the organizer of Gram Vikash, Bheden were present there. It also organized a three days orientation program on TSC at three different places namely Balipatna village of Khurdha district, Krushnadaspur of Kendrapada district and Barbati village of Nayagarh district on 17th, 18th and 19th Jan07 respectively. The objective of the program was to create awareness among the villagers on the problems of improper sanitation and diseases caused by using contaminated water. Mr. Lingaraj Dash, Asst, Manager Planning, BISWA was present during the program. Though its not an easy task to achive 100 percent proper sanitation in rural areas but BISWA firmly believes that nothing is impossible. If proper attention will be given to sanitation (and water supply) and an effective policy of implementation will be undertaken then 100% propagation of this project is definitely possible. A change of attitude can speed up Total Sanitation Campaign and many also accept it.

Consider this situation: Two equally talented candidates were called for an interview. Both of them were caught in a traffic jam. One of them stopped midway to inform the prospective employer why she will be late. On the contrary, the other interviewee did not bother to inform and reached late. Naturally the former got the appointment order.

What to do when you are sure that you will be late? Communicate immediately to the person who is likely to be affected by your temporary absence. Depending on the situation, it can be your BOSS, a team member, a subordinate or somebody you have an appointment with. It is always When You Are Late good to be accessible on a mobile or telephone or pager if you have. If you know in advance that you will be late on a To come to office late is a common phenomenon and for certain day, communicate as early as possible. Most some it may be a regular phenomenon also. The most importantly make up for the delay by working extended hours. common utterances when you are late is Oh God! I am late. Then what to do when you reach office late. Make In manufacturing Sectors like factories, plants; there is grave up your mind to face the situation. Be ready for the disapproval towards delays.
