A collection of five poems for a college level class I took in 2010 by Nathan Tomer

Almost I am the donkey one straw from a broken back. I am the last thought of a frog in slowly boiling water. I am the king one move from being checkmated. I am the failing grip on one last inch of rope. I am the stress holding back the balloon as it is overinflated, and balanced on a pin. I am so close to just stopping, but don't.

Feeble Brained Those ill-formed offspring of my feeble brain like this one, or that one, production's bane. They're bouncing around to get in my way, clogging up the works hope they'll go away. I should concentrate on the task at hand, oh no another one about to land. Its just this one more that will inundate the focus that's left in my w o n e r i n g d s t a t e.

So quickly write it down upon the page, and hope it stays there in it's blue lined cage.

I Hungered Once Hungered for children that would love and grow, so I created in their perfect world, my image. Fenced in from their own despairs, innocent, but children are curious. They wondered beyond my fence, my garden, hungry for knowledge of the world. And in their gluttony I was forgotten. The planet was a vast open place, where they sought to fill themselves. There was not enough. With their world consumed their hunger turned to me, but my children will not grow up, nor come home. And in their hunger for me, a hunger insatiable, they consume themselves. I hungered once for children that would grow and love. And now I hunger once more.
