The information that follows provides details of the courses available to International students at TAFE Western Australia Institutes. All the courses offered by TAFE to International students are registered on the Australian Government Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) and are full-time. Full-time study at TAFE is usually around 20 hours of training per week across three to four days. TAFE has very flexible entry. Most students will be eligible to enter a TAFE course at some level as long as they meet the basic academic requirements and English language level. Students who do not meet the required English standard can study ELICOS (English) at TAFE prior to the start of their main course. TAFE courses are generally made up of connecting courses that build on each other (pathways). There are often two or more entry points (year 10 and year 12) and students can exit the course at the completion of any stage. The example below is typical of a TAFE course structure.

Students electing to undertake the practical flying option concurrently with the Associate Degree of Aviation (Aeronautics), will develop the skills required for a Mulit-Engine Commercial Pilots Licence(CPL) for fixed-wing aircraft. To gain the CPL, students must be successful in attaining practical flying competency and pass the CASA written exams and flight tests. Demonstration of competence may take longer than the allocated flight training programs hours dependant on the level of proficiency of the student and therefore may require additional flying hours at extra cost. Additional flying options available include a full MultiEngine Commercial Pilot Licence, MultiEngine Command Instrument rating and Flight Instructor Rating. Students wishing to pursue a Pilots Licence will be responsible for paying for all required CASA exams towards the issuance of their Licence. This includes an Aviation English Language Proficiency Assessment which is mandatory for the issuance of a Student Pilot Licence. After completion of ATPL written exams, the students results are frozen until minimum 1,500 flight hours required are met. All flying students will be required to apply and obtain a current Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and a Class 1 Aviation Flight Medical at their own cost. ASICs identify the holder as having a current security check required by CASA and required to undertake flight training in Australia and is valid for two (2) years. Applications are processed through the CASA website (www.casa.gov.au) and may take several months to be issued. A Class 1 Aviation Flight Medical must be completed by a CASA approved Designated Aviation Medical Examiner to qualify for a student licence. It is strongly recommended that the ASIC application be submitted prior to the start of the qualification. All students will be required to show proof of their current medical and ASIC to AeroSpace Training Centre staff prior to being released for flight training. Due to the remote location of the Jandakot Airport, it is recommended that students have their own personal transport. Bus services to the Airport are available from Murdoch train station, however these services are limited (three mornings and three evenings per week). Please check details with Transperth for the bus schedule as times and frequency may change. This qualification is registered with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) as a higher education qualification.
