INTRODUCTION Background Vehicle tracking system solution are which help in monitoring the management of vehicles with the

help of electronic devices called AVL Vehicle Tracker installed in the vehicles to enable the vehicle owners or third parties track the location of the vehicle. Most modern vehicles tracking systems now uses wireless or global positioning system modules to allow easy and accurate monitoring of the location of the vehicle. Many systems also combine communication components such as cellular or satellite transmitters to communicate the vehicle's location to a remote user. Vehicle information can be viewed on the electronic maps via the internet or specialized software. Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) is an advanced method used to track and monitor any remote vehicle equipped with a software unit that receives and transfers signals through GPS satellite. AVL is a combination of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) that provides actual geographic real time position of each vehicle.

Statements of the problem Out of the various services that are available in a given company or organization, transportation service is the major one. This service is meant to serve mainly the employees and also in some case the customers of the organization. Due to the nature of the service, it is really difficult to monitor and make sure that the proper utilization of resource is being made. As a result the personnel that are assigned to give this service may: Delays the arrival time. Drives the direction not allowed for him. The driver changes the car identification number (Targa) and make the car idle.

Summing it up, there is a vast problem in accurately locating and monitoring the various vehicles that are used for transportation service in a given organization or company in our country, which enabled the various personnel that are assigned for this task to use the vehicles in favor of themselves without the knowledge of the vehicle owner which intern makes the organization or company prone to a great deal of unnecessary cost. This misusage of resources in a given public, governmental or private organization initiates us to find a controlling mechanism for the transportation services.

Objectives The objective of this project can be viewed by dividing in to two sections; main objective andspecific objective Main Objective The main objective of this project is to design SMS based real time car tracking system which used to detect the position of a car accurately and display the location of the vehicle online on a Google Map to the concerned body in duty to monitor the vehicles Sepecific Objective Developing Automatic Vehicle Location system using GPS for positioning information and GSM/GPRS or information transmission with following features Acquisition of vehicles location information (latitude longitude). Developing a web based software to display all transmitted information to end user along with displaying location of vehicle on a map. To provide a solution to avoid car stolen in the lower cost than advance security car system. Methodology of the work The methodology that is used for designing and prototype implementation of the project is briefly discussed as follows. First all the studies Addis Ababa City bus manual system are analyzed carefully. After this an algorithm is designed for overall system. with that of AVL vehicle Tracker. On the other hand for the monitoring station, a mechanism for displaying the transmitted signal on a web based map is determined.
