The Lord of the Rings marathon has come and gone (but will be back again, with much success (can I say again how abso-frakkin-lutely awesome the new projector made the movies look?). The fifth and last Mr. Julius Caesar quiz also just passed, and we now have our final three competitors for April 23rd-congrats to Mary, Nick, and Madison! State Forum is just a few weeks away, and its time for things to really get rolling for our big competition. After that, its one more meeting and then the induction of the 2013-14 officers. Bona Fortuna omnibus!

There and Back Again

By Jestin Johnson
The 2013 Annual Lord of the Rings marathon went very well overall, with Chefs team preparing delicious food for the 40+ attendees, and the LHS officers helping out. Everything went off without a hitch. A combination of excellent food and amazing films made this past marathon better than any previously, and really lights a beacon for years to come. If you missed out this time, be sure to make it to next year s marathon. I can only imagine the awesome event that the future will bring.

First time going to States? Maybe youve been before and youre
confused beyond compare as to what you need to do to prepare, or dont have a clue what to bring? Well, do not be afraid, Im here to save the day! States checklist: toga, bathing suit, clothes, p.js, toiletries (such as shampoos, body wash, toothbrush, etc.), electronics(there will be no WiFi, and we are not responsible for any broken, lost or stolen items), money (for lunch and dinner both Thursday and Friday, plus extras), project, snacks (optional). May 6th, Our Last Meeting

By Guy Earle With all the testing going on in April, there isnt another LHS meeting until May. Therefore, we have only onejust onemeeting left this year. If you want to be considered for an LHS officer position, please let me know before the end of April. All applicants will be accepted, and those chosen will be announced at the final meeting. Also, Matt Barker, a former student of mine, 2006 graduate, and current archaeologist, will come and share his experiences from the underwater excavation of a Roman wreck near Spain this past summer.

LHS Oreo Pudding Cups

Weve been bouncing around when this is going to happen all year. For one reason or another weve had to reschedule it a few times already, but we will likely do one before State Forum (and during the Bazzar). When it happens, Ill be looking for volunteers to help sell them during lunch.

Grab Your Paintbrush

Ms. Monk gave her approval recently to a painting endeavour Id like to do. A few years ago a bunch of us got together and painted my room from the awful prison-white to the current beige. While thinking about an upcoming Latin III topic on Pompeii, a thought occurred to meto replicate a specific wall, graffiti and all, in the classroom. We already have the beige, so were going to paint the red (and age it), and also replicate the Roman graffiti on the walls, as well as the two windows of Gaius Julius Polybius house. We actually talk about him in Latin III, and you might know him as the father of the family from the Doctor Who episode Fires of Pompeii. He was a real Roman magistrate, who was one of the two leading men in Pompeii at the time of the eruption.

Reminder: Italy and Croatia for 2014

Its really time to reserve a spot for the 2014 trip and put a deposit down, because Explorica begins reserving hotels over the summer. As soon as we come back in August, we begin planning in earnest for this awesome trip. Call 1-888-310-7120, and have them look up my tour by its name Italy and Croatia or by Earle2560.
