This was another great experience. The more time you are able to shadow principals the better prepared you will be. The one thing you may want to do is spend time in one of your schools that has an early childhood program that educates children with behavior issues. It is very eye opening to see how volatile they can be at times. Exp. Record #: 11258 Date submitted: 09/28/2012 Elizabeth Hogan approved on 10/01/2012 Cohort: UEN 2011

Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page). My specific role in this experience was completing my second principal job shadowing. I job shadowed Lori Nausbum of Camelback Academy of Glendale Arizona. Camelback Academy is charter school located in Glendale Arizona. Lori has been the principal here for 4 years, she first taught one year here before becoming principal. I learned the ropes of running the charter school which educated students from k-8. My role during the day was to observe and reflect with Principal Nausbum. I was apart of the character counts ceremonies for the different grade levels. Students from all grades were brought up to stage for a certificate and recognition. I really liked the idea and will bring it back to my school as a thought to consider. I was also apart of a small discipline situation in which a young student said something inappropiate and was clueless as to what they said. It was a very good experience to see how a charter school was run, basically on less funding than the schools down the street. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). I was not used to all the small children! The K-2 students were really tiny and very nice to the adults. As a future leader I will take away the lesson of how to treat your staff with respect and trust them. We did not make it to many classrooms this day, other things popped up that needed to be taken care of. It is realization that I as a future administrator will not be able to get into all the classrooms as much as I want to. I also learned that a principal once high expectations are set can show a lot of respect to thier staff by showing trust in them. It was a very good experience and I am glad I had the opportunity to job shadow Principal Nausbum. Mentor(s) Brad Schweppe The date approved by his/her lead mentor: 09/28/2012
