SOCIAL SCIENCE 10 (CHANGING ASIA) Course Description: A Study of change within Asian Societies and Cultures: Characteristics, Sources

and Manifestations Credits: 3 units RGEP Cluster: Social Sciences and Philosophy (SSP)

Offered By: Division of Social Sciences/College of Arts and Sciences U.P. in the Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo General Objectives: 1. To broaden the students intellectual and cultural horizons; 2. To foster a commitment to nationalism balanced by a sense of internationalism; 3. To cultivate a capacity for independent, critical and creative thinking; and 4. To infuse a passion for learning with a high sense of moral and intellectual integrity. Specific Objectives: 1. To acquaint students with the dynamics of change in Asian societies and cultures. 2. To broaden and enhance students knowledge and understanding of the relations of forces (internal and external) and the contexts that shape regional and global issues affecting Asia; 3. To promote both nationalism and cooperation between and among countries of Asia; 4. To help the students acquire basic skills and competencies in reasoning and communication; and 5.
