ABSTRACT The term Good Design as I will refer to, is instilling a product with depth......

in its aesthectics, its semantics and its inclusiveness, Good Design has has been a focal point of the design industry since the notably transition from Bauhauss emphasis of Form follows Function, to the modern era of Interface Design. The attainment of Good Design, as it currently stand is only achieveable through a studio environment, whether it be in design consultancies or corperate design studios. this has created two issues in the current market. the independant person may not have the financial means approach a design consultanicy to develop an lightbulb idea into a flushed out concept secondly is the resultant movement of mass production, not in the context of the industrial revolution of the 1950s, but the global manufacturer that is China, and the exercise of rebranding of generic products that been sold throughout the world. Chinas rise as a manufacturing power, has redefined and create a new form on branding. In the past a person or group would set out to create a product and thus a brand and company. With this, the quality of this brand would reflect the efforts made by the company, which inturn, the end products would reflect upon the founder/s. This ensured design, quality and end-user-awareness were all accounted for in the design process. And a sense of pride in the products produced. With the emergence of China into the global economy, came that one only needed money in order to create a brand, a mere exercise in volume shopping, where the person purchased a mass quantity of a product, with their own logo branded on afterwards. No more quality control, no more design development, no more creative process. With the Business-to Business model that China employs, This new disconnect between the manufacturer and the brand, has removed any accountabilities of the deficiencies of products and the depths of its design. Many of the design processes employed by design studios are highly useful, but their actual details are also highly secretive, whilst fundamentals of most methodologies have been developed by institutions and universities, and therefore are highly academic and text based. My research focus of will rely 2 core methodologies of Inclusive

Design and Design Semantics,

As design is a visual exploration for a physical product, I aim to create a practical means to develop Good Design, a blueprint as such, to create products which will appeal in both aesthetics and usability for a wider audience. This design resource will seek to assist both assist the manufacturer, designer and the every person, by providing practical insight into the application of visual instructions, design heirarchy, empathy, affordances & feedback, modality, semiotics . The Design Resource, aims to address both the above issues, in opposite directions, allowing the everyday idea, to gain form and depth ... and for the manufacturer, to be able to assess their products and address deficiancies.

Just as once the automobile was only capable of being produced by the hands of highly skilled craftsmen, I hope to be able to allow Good Design to be gained by not only designers and also inventors and anyone with a good idea...
