COMPANY PROFILE
Our history
Canon started out as a company with a handful of employees and a burning passion. That company soon became a world-renowned camera maker and is now a global multimedia corporation. With over 60 years of technological expertise under our belt, our passion remains unchanged. Canon will continue using its technologies to benefit people as it pursues its objective of becoming a company that is loved by people throughout the world.

A modest beginning in a small room

In 1933, a small laboratory dedicated to making high-quality cameras was set up in a simple apartment room in the Roppongi area of Tokyo. Back then, all high-quality cameras were European with the majority coming from Germany. It was in this small room that young people with a big dream earnestly began their work to produce a high-quality Japanese camera, marking the beginning of Canon. Through hard work and an enterprising spirit, they succeeded in building a prototype, which was named Kwanon after the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. Then in 1935, Japan's first-ever 35 mm focalplane-shutter camera, the Hanza Canon, was born, marking the origins of the Canon brand.

Striving for the world's best camera

In 1950, Canon's first president, Takeshi Mitarai, went to America for the first time to attend an international trade fair. Having seen modern factories and a high standard of living first hand, upon his return, he built a fireproof factory

Mitarai reinforced his respect for humanity by stressing the importance of the Sanji, or "three selfs" spirit, the guiding principle for Canon employees. In 1955, Canon made its mark in the global market with the opening of a U.S. office in New York City. In 1957, Canon set up its sole European distributor, Canon Europa, in Geneva, Switzerland. By 1967 exports topped 50% of the company's total sales. The challenge of diversification Soon after its establishment, Canon was hard at work in 1941 on diversifying itself with the introduction of Japan's first indirect X-ray camera and other products. In the 1960s, the company took further steps toward diversification by adding electrical, physical and chemical technologies to its optical and precision technologies. In 1964, Canon entered the office equipment market with the debut of the world's first 10-key electronic calculator. In 1967, the management slogan "cameras in the right hand, business machines in the left" was unveiled and in 1969 the company changed its name from Canon Camera Co., Inc. to Canon Inc. Canon took on the challenge of developing Japan's first plain paper copying machine, which it introduced in 1970. Its plan to further diversification was realised by stepping from one challenging field to the next. Averting disaster with the Premium Company Plan By 1970, Canon grew to 44.8 billion yen in sales, with a staff strength of 5,000 employees. However, a series of dollar and oil shocks, followed by problems with a defective electronic calculator display component in 1974, turned up serious trouble for Canon. And for the first half of 1975, Canon failed to pay a dividend for the first time since it became a public company. In 1976, Canon

G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer unveiled its Premier Company Plan, an ambitious strategy to transform Canon into an "excellent global company" through means such as introducing a vertical business group constitution and establishing a horizontal development, production and sales system. The plan proposed high ideals and pooled the strength of its employees, enabling the company to promptly recover.

Canon's second inauguration

Canon continued to grow under the Premier Company Plan. With the dawn of the personal computer age, Canon introduced a series of products never before seen. The products included a personal copying machine based on an all-in-one cartridge system, a laser printer with semiconductor laser, and a Bubble Jet inkjet printer. At the same time, Canon began its drive towards globalisation through global production. Then, in 1988, the 51st anniversary of the company's founding, Canon announced its second inauguration and unveiled its corporate philosophy ofkyosei, an unfamiliar term at the time. It also began promoting progressive and environmentally-sound activities, such as toner cartridge recycling in addition to globalising its development sites.

The Excellent Global Corporation Plan

Canon developed unprecedented technologies and carefully nurtured them to create business opportunities and products unrivaled by any other company. But by the mid-1990s, the business division system that had been in place since the 1970s was showing signs of wear. Canon incurred debts of more than 840 billion yen, signaling the company's need to improve its financial constitution; should it wish to carry out long-term R&D projects and launch new businesses. Fujio Mitarai became Canon's sixth company president
G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Transforming the corporate mindset from partial to total optimisation and a switch in focus from sales to profits, the new plan marked the start of innovations that characterised the Canon that we know today.

Environmentally Conscious Management | Management System Environmentally Conscious Management System

Based on our Environmental Vision, Canon is promoting environmentally conscious management in a bid to achieve the Canon Group Environmental Charter goal of maximizing resource efficiency. Accordingly, we have constructed an environmentally conscious management system to bolster the levels and efficiency of all our environmental assurance activities. Our system links the activities of each division (products operations and operational sites of Group companies) to the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. In this cycle, we conduct environmental assurance activities (Do) based on our environmental goals (Plan), which are reflected in our business targets. We also implement the environmental evaluation system (Check) to assess our performance and then work to improve our environmental assurance activities (Act). In addition, we continually make improvements to the environmentalassurance activities of each division by implementing the PDCA cycle for them as well. Through the two-layer PDCA cycle, we can accelerate the environmental assurance activities of the Group.

Integration of ISO 14001 Certification

Canon has been creating environmental management systems (EMSs) and acquiring ISO 14001 certification at operational sites both inside and outside Japan since 1995. After initially establishing and implementing EMSs at individual operational sites, since 2004 we have striven to gain consolidated ISO 14001 certification to ensure appropriate decision making from an optimal group-wide perspective, utilizing environmental data compiled from all

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer operational sites. This objective was achieved for manufacturing and marketing subsidiaries in Japan and overseas in 2007. As of the end of 2011, Canon Inc. and 138 Group companies (total of 139 companies) in 39 countries and regions worldwide were covered by consolidated certification. We will continue to check and improve our environmental management systems by conducting internal and external audits as well as inspections by top management.

Global Environmental Promotion System

Canon's Environment & Quality Headquarters promotes environmentally conscious management among the Group. The Environment Planning Center and Environment Promotion Center were established within it with the goal of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of environmental assurance efforts while maintaining a concerted approach. The Environment & Quality Headquarters creates systems for promoting environmental assurance efforts for Canon products and for implementation at all operational sites, and it controls all these activities throughout the Group. The Environment Planning Center is charged with gathering legal and regulatory data pertaining to the environment; establishing environmental policies, goals, and rules for the Group; and creating and managing evaluation methods for environmental assurance activities. The Environment Promotion Center is tasked with planning and promoting the activities necessary to achieve environmental policies and goals.

G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer Canon also created the Global Environment Strategic Expert Committee under the auspices of the Management Strategy Committee. This new committee formulates strategic planning for the Group. There are also divisions and personnel responsible for supervising the promotion of environmental assurance activities for product manufacturing at operational sites and major subsidiaries. Their duties include checking the status of progress toward the environmental goals set by the Environment & Quality Headquarters, evaluating compliance with various internal environmental assurance rules, and ensuring that environmental management is being thoroughly executed. These divisions and personnel provide information from each Group company to the Environment & Quality Headquarters, enabling it to conduct prompt and appropriate decision making.

Environmental Evaluation System

Canon conducts a Consolidated Performance Evaluation to assess the management status of Group operations. Since 2001, we have incorporated an environmental evaluation into operational activities under this system to ensure even more aggressive and autonomous promotion of environmental assurance

G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer activities across headquarter divisions as well as manufacturing and marketing subsidiaries. For the environmental evaluation, the Environment & Quality Headquarters evaluates and scores the degree to which goals and other major objectives have been achieved by each company. This evaluation accounts for about 10% of the total points in the Consolidated Performance Evaluation. The results are announced biannually within the Group. We will continue to revise and improve the system to raise the level of our environmentally conscious management.

Environmental Evaluation Process

Environmental Audit
Canon's environmental audits assess compliance with laws and regulations as well as with the Canon Group Environmental Standards.* They also evaluate implementation of the Group's internal EMS and Product Chemical Substance Assurance System, with the objective of achieving continuous improvements. The head of Environment & Quality Headquarters functions as the EMS management representative and issues the Canon Group audit policies. In keeping with these policies, Environment & Quality Headquarters conducts

G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer environmental audits of operational sites, while the audit divisions at those sites conduct both operational site environmental audits and product environmental audits of divisions under their administration. Audit results are reported to the Group Audit Management Division of the Environment & Quality Headquarters, which compiles the consolidated results for the Group to be reviewed by the EMS management representative. In 2011, auditor training was carried out 10 times by the Environment & Quality Headquarters in response to requests from operational sites. Also, support was given for audits conducted internally at four sites, while support for joint audits among operational sites was provided at five sites. In the future, we shall continue to boost auditing levels through the implementation of such measures.

Canon Group Environmental Standards These standards stipulate reference values and other criteria. Our

standards are stricter than existing legal and regulatory requirements for 16 environmental categories, such as water, soil and groundwater quality. Our goal in setting these standards is to ensure thorough compliance with all laws and local ordinances.

Compliance with Environmental Regulations / Risk Communications Environmental Regulation Compliance Management
Canon promotes various actions to ensure it complies with environmental laws and regulations. For example, when selecting potential locations for new operational sites for business expansion, Canon carries out surveys of the environmental infrastructure and the surrounding environment, and conducts soil and groundwater assessments that take into consideration the history of land usage. To respond to legislative changes worldwide, Canon utilizes its network of regional headquarters to constantly monitor how its products are affected by current laws and legislative processes. This information is gathered by the Environment & Quality Headquarters, which, after analysis, determines the action to take. These actions serve to ensure thorough understanding by design and development divisions of products operations.

Recruitment Process
The quality of resources ensures the quality of the product. At Canon, recruitment is an extensive process to explore and hire the right talent by exploring diverse methods. For each position within Canon, there is a job description listing the competencies required for that role. Compact Photo printers Single Function printer Multifunction printer

Compact Photo Printers

CP 800 printer The Canon Selphy CP800 Compact Photo Printer ($99 direct) stands out for being tiny. The latest in a long line of Lilliputian Canon smallformat smaller photo than printers its built on thermal dye technology, it's even predecessor, the Selphy CP780($99.99 direct, 4 stars). It's extremely portable and easy to use, it can print from a variety of sources, and it produces prints that should satisfy most consumers. The CP800 is a small black box with rounded corners (there's also a white version available). It measures just 2.3 by 4.7 by 6.7 inches and weighs 2 pounds. The Selphy has a 2.5-inch tilt-up LCD screen. The interface and menu are intuitiveit practically prints by itself.

G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer Setup is easy: just plug it in, insert paper and ink cartridge, install software on your computer, and connect via USB cable. The Selphy doesn't even need a computer, as you can print from a memory card, a PictBridge camera, or (unlike its predecessor) a USB key. The only tricky part of setup is making sure the film on the ink cartridge is taut when inserted; that's done by tightening a roller. Options for the CP800 include a Bluetooth adapter ($49.99 direct) and a battery pack ($79.99 direct). The printer comes with a one-year, parts-andlabor warranty.

Speed
On our standard test suite, the CP800 averaged 56 seconds per 4-by-6 photo, matching the average time of the CP780; individual print times ranged from 53 seconds to 1 minute 4 seconds. Its speed is reasonably fast, though 15 seconds slower than the Editors' ChoiceEpson PictureMate Charm's ($149.99 direct, 4.5 stars) 41-second average.

Quality
The CP800's photo quality was about you'd expect from drugstore prints. Color was accurate, and resolution was good. One shortcoming worth mention was poor dynamic rangesome loss of detail in both brighter and darker areas on prints, but it was mild enough that it might go unnoticed . Also, a couple of photoseach printed right after a cartridge changeshowed small, spurious flecks of color.

G.V.P.P. Govt First Grade College, H.B.Halli

Canon Consumer Preference towards Canon Printer When we reviewed the CP780, it had a respectable cost per page of 27.8 cents per 4-by-6 glossy print, based on a (direct) price of $29.99 for a 108-print cartridge and ink combo pack. The new model uses the same combo pack, but Canon's price for it has risen to $34.99, raising the cost per page to 30.9 cents. This makes the CP800 less competitive than its predecessor against other small-format printers like the Epson PictureMate Charmwhich has cost per print of 25.3 centsas well as drugstores and chain stores that offer photoprinting services. The Canon Selphy CP800 can't match the PictureMate Charm in photo quality or cost per page. Still, the CP800 is insanely portable, easy to use, and produces very decent prints. If you're looking for a printer you can pop into a bag, bring with you to events, and print out photos on the spot, it should be on your short list.

CONCLUSION
According to the findings we can say that this survey is really very much helpful to know the customers perception about the canon printer, according to my survey most of customer are moving now hp to canon but they are facing some problem in Inkjet printer like refilling problem. So company should concentrate the product quality. Company should concentrate the service also because most of the customer are facing service problem. Canon has good brand image in Camera and Copiers field, but in Printer lots of customer are not aware. So for awareness of the product Canon should do some think?

generating awareness regarding the product in customers which ultimately helps in sales. Also it is helps in advertising for the new products. Like ip-2700, mp-

568, mp-648 Company should always try to improve service as well as quality. Company should concentrate more on its major driver cartridge like 303

because most of the customers are using 12A in place of 303 cartridges. Company should concentrate on more advertising, because most of the

customers are not aware about canon printer, they know only hp printers. We can do advertise in much way like banner advertising, web

advertising, outdoor housing advertising etc.
