Callangan 4ChE-B March 14, 2013 Group # 5

1. What are the critical parts in the operation of this HT33 shell and tube heat exchanger? - The critical parts in the operation of HT33 shell and tube heat exchanger are controlling the temperature, controlling the flow rate of the water, changing of temperature. 2. Study the present set-up of the shell and tube heat exchanger in the laboratory. Compare it with this type of heat exchanger. -The shell and tube heat exchanger in the laboratory is an HT33 shell and tube heat exchanger. It consists of a number of tubes in parallel enclosed in a cylindrical shell. Heat is transferred between one fluid flowing through the tubes and another fluid flowing through the cylindrical shell around the tubes. Baffles are included inside the shell. The miniature exchanger supplied is designed to demonstrate liquid to liquid heat transfer in a 1-7 shell and tube heat exchanger (one shell and 7 tubes with two transverse baffles in the shell). 3. Draw a schematic diagram of this HT33 shell and tube heat exchanger. Label the necessary parts. Indicate the inlet and outlet points for the hot and cold fluid. Shell Cold fluid outlet

4. What is the process control and how was it applied to the operation of this HT33 Heat Exchanger? - Four thermocouple temperature sensors are labeled T1 to T4 for identification. They measure the inlet and outlet temperature of both fluid streams.
