SOAP: Bible Study What youll need: Method o Bible

Mark:
Background Information: Author: Mark, an associate of Peter and Paul (1 Peter 5:13; Acts 12:12). He wrote and compiled the events as the apostle Peter had told him.
Date: Most likely written around A.D. 64 - A.D. 67 after Peter was martyred and a devastating fire broke out in Rome. Mark was more than likely the first of the four gospel books written.

Scripture: Open your Bible and take time reading the


passage and allow God to speak to you. Dont just skim through it, but really think about what it means. Imagine what the people involved were experiencing. When youre done, look for a verse that particularly speaks to you and write it out in your journal/notebook.

Observation: Write down observations about the scripture


you just read. You may want to write your own summary of the passage, but more importantly, think about what God has to say to you through this part of his word. You may want to paraphrase and write this scripture down in your own words in your journal/notebook.

Purpose: Mark writes to collect and arrange various teachings of Jesus to present both his understanding of Jesus' teachings and who Jesus is. Mark focuses on Jesus being fully human and fully God, being a disciple of Jesus, and emphasizes the suffering and death of Jesus for the ransom of sinners.
