ACTIVITY

Procedure :

1) Teacher asks pupils about their family such as grandparents, parents, siblings, aunt, uncle and cousins. 2) Divide pupils into groups of eight. 3) Paste the lyrics on chalkboard and show a video of The Family song. 4) Teacher sings aloud the song followed by students. 5) Teacher distributes figurines of family members on a manila card to every group. 6) Ask pupils to cut out the figurines of family members (father, mother, sister, brother, grandpa, grandma, uncle, aunt and cousin). 7) Each student takes one picture and tapes it at the bottom of ice-cream stick. 8) Pupils sing aloud together and raise the figurines puppets of family members according to what they sing. 9) Teacher tells how to treat family members nicely.

Based on the Malaysian Curriculum Specifications of English for Year 3, one of the most important aspects in the topic of People around me that a teacher should consider is integrations. The song entitled The Family Song allows a teacher to integrate daily life happenings with the pupils. The content of the song reveals the The world of self, family and friends which is one of the themes in the curriculum, allows the young learners to differentiate members by relating to their own family. By creating and using activity based on language arts skill which is preparing figurines puppets for 60 minutes, the creative sides of intermediate pupils can be identified and developed.

The words used in this song are very simple by using only simple words and simple sentences. It consists of one to three syllable words only which makes it easy to be understood. Being a pop genre song, it is written to be easily understood and enjoyed which tend to use high frequency lyrics that have emotional content as we can see in line and we love each other. Also, with the catchy melody, it helps pupils remember the words better and make them as strong candidates for word study or for reinforcing words already learned through written means. By doing it, their focusing skill could also be improved. Through arts and craft, pupils will indirectly be instilled with the spirit of cooperation which we can see when they work together with their group members that will enhance promote positive attitudes.
