Food for Thought from the Pastors Desk.

The Cape of Good Hope I can still recall a geography lesson from elementary school in which we learned that the southernmost point of Africa is a point which for centuries has experienced tremendous storms. For many years no one even knew what lay beyond that cape, for no ship attempting to round that point had ever returned to tell the tale. Among the ancients it was known as the "Cape of Storms," and for good reason. But then a Portuguese explorer in the sixteenth century, Vasco De Gama, successfully sailed around that very point and found beyond the wild raging storms, a great calm sea, and beyond that, the shores of India. The name of that cape was changed from the Cape of Storms to the Cape of Good Hope.

FOLLY BEACH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH MINISTERS: ALL MEMBERS MUSIC DIRECTOR: RICHARD S. REWIS PASTOR: STEPHEN A. WILLIAMS

Until Jesus Christ rose from the dead, death had been the cape of storms on which all hopes of life beyond had been wrecked. No one knew what lay beyond that point until, on Easter morning, those ancient visions of Isaiah became the victory of Jesus over our last great enemy. Suddenly, like those ancient explorers, we can see beyond the storm to the hope of heaven and eternal life with the Father. More than that, we dare to believe that we shall experience in our own human lives exactly what the Son of God experienced in his, for the risen Christ says to us, "Because I live, you shall live also." This is the heart of the Easter faith. - Robert Beringer, Easter People, CSS Publishing Company Jesus Swooned? One lady wrote in to a question and answer forum. "Dear Sirs, Our preacher said on Easter, that Jesus just swooned on the cross and that the disciples nursed Him back to health. What do you think? Sincerely, Bewildered." "Dear Bewildered, Beat your preacher with a cat-of-nine-tails with thirty-nine heavy strokes, nail him to a cross; hang him in the sun for six hours; run a spear thru his side...put him in an airless tomb for thirty-six hours and see what happens. Sincerely, Charles."

My friends, He is risen!

As you know, March was SUMMER CAMP MONTH at HALOS. Our goal was to send at least one child sponsored by your donations to the piggy bank in the vestibule. The church budgets $400 each year and the UMW decided again this year to sponsor one child at $275 so the grand total for our church is again more than $1,000! Many thanks for all of your help! Because of YOU, several children will have a happy and safe summer this year.

When I say Im a Christian.

When I say I am a Christian, I am not shouting that I am clean living Im whispering I was lost, but now am found and forgiven. When I say I am a Christian, I dont speak of this with pride. Im confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide. When I say I am a Christian, Im not trying to be strong. Im professing that Im weak and need His strength to carry on. When I say I am a Christian, Im not bragging of success. Im admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess. When I say I am a Christian, Im not claiming to be perfect. My flaws are far too visible, But God believes I am worth it. When I say I am a Christian, I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name. When I say I am a Christian, Im not holier than thou. Im just a simple sinner who received Gods grace somehow!

Many thanks to the 20+ workers who came out on Saturday, March 23rd, to get the church ready for Easter. A great deal was accomplished due to many hands working hard the grounds were spruced up, pine straw spread, the Prayer Garden nearly finished, the sanctuary cleaned and polished, the pantry and junk room cleaned out .. Just to mention a few.. .Whew! Loads were taken to Goodwill and the trash cans were all filled to the top. The Adult Sunday School class was moved around the corner to a brighter room without the disturbance of the furnace room noise. Again, thanks to all who worked so hard to get er done!

Neither monsoon rains nor flooded streets kept the FBUMC dedicated members from the egg hunt and brunch on Palm Sunday! Fifty nine were in church (some shoeless and many soaking wet). Afterwards a delicious brunch and good fellowship was enjoyed by all. The children managed to still have the egg hunt ~ even though it was inside!
