Editorial
Edit April -2013 Me too! This month of March , I remember had arrived in a hurry and marching its march past quickly enough too. Now the month of April is here and the great English poet T.S.Eliot had famously called it the cruelest month of the year .Dont exactly remember why he so fumed and fretted over this pretty month of April , it has been a long time since I read his epic poem, The Waste Land. But I am sure if I go a bit late today [March 29, 2013] in sending this edit piece to our editor Seraj bhai , he would be fuming and fretting a bit more. Already our brothers Shakeel bhai and Seraj bhai both seem to have lost their battles with me; which is about making me computer literate or at least putting me to grasp the nuances of making a folder for all the requisite files for Bakhabar. Yeah, like you, Me too ,have sympathies for these two of my finest [and patient] brothers. So rest of the story, next month Till then take care and enjoy!

Media mostly spread bitterness,

says columnist Soroor Ahmed
By M Naushad Ansari,
Patna: Role of media in promoting peace and communal harmony is mostly negative. Media, indeed, spread bitterness, believes senior journalist and eminent columnist of The Telegraph, Soroor Ahmad. Addressing a talk on Role of media in promoting peace and communal harmony at Patna Book Fair on March 23, Ahmed, in his scholarly speech, said that peace and communal harmony is essential for development, but unfortunately, media sabotage it. As long as media remains silent on social issues, peace and communal harmony will be present. The moment media starts playing things, mostly for sensationalization and susceptibility to market forces, peace gets disturbed. Today is the time of explosion of information, particularly by electronic media and social networking. Egypts Ta h r i r S q u a r e p r o t e s t s , I n d i a s Anna Hazares movement etc demonstrate that social media in general, and networking portals in particular, provide new sources of information, which is a l m o s t uncontrollable. National problems are being decided by whims of few individuals. This rapid diffusion of the internet and the rise of dedicated social platforms dramatically changed the infrastructure of social connectivity. Today anybody is capable to plant news, without knowing its far reaching repercussions. Loyalty to the public interest and social values has taken back seat, he said. The advancement in technology media has become all-pervasive, wide and deep. Maulana Abdul Majid Qasmi, Secretary General of Shanti Sandesh Kendr, Patna, stressed that though there are various writers and journalists who are honest, truth loving and unbiased, there is, unfortunately, a section in the media, which is less responsible and they believe in promoting disintegration. Quoting from Geeta and Holy Quran, Maulana said that speaking truth is the essence of all religions in the world. Over the years, the problem of communalism has adversely affected progress of this country. Time demands that social values and loyalty to the public interest is given prime importance. Development will be rapid only in a peaceful society, he asserted. Dr. Abdul Hai, a renowned surgeon and social worker presided over the function. He emphasized that various clashes take place because of misinformation about the issues. It has now been widely recognized that the print, electronic and other forms of social media can effectively play a very significant role in promoting communal harmony and peace. We need to use all possible sources of media to clear the cobwebs of misunderstanding among different communities. The organizations website www.shantisandeshkendr.org was also launched by Dr. Abdul Hai on the occasion. The theme of Shanti Sandesh Kendr is learning and sharing in the light of scriptures. The Kendr is working for communal harmony, peace, national integrity and universal brotherhood. The program was organized by Shanti Sandesh Kendr, Patna, Bihar. ASH-SHAHEED - The Witness

Say: Allah is a sufficient witness between me and you. He is certainly aware of and sees His servants. ( Surat al-Isra', 17:96) Allah has no beginning and no end, is the sole absolute Being, and is not bound by such human concepts as time or space. Therefore, everything that ever happens, regardless of whether it happened in the past, the present, or the future, are the same inand are fully known toHis Sight. He knows everything, whether it is done in secret or in public, in darkness or in light, while alone or while in a crowd. Being ignorant, people assume that what they do at night might conceal their sins and hide them as well. But such hopes are futile, for the Qur'an states: Do you not see that Allah knows what is in the heavens and on Earth? Three men cannot confer together secretly without Him being the fourth, or five without Him being the sixth, or fewer than that or more without Him being with them wherever they are. Then He will inform them on the Day of Rising of what they did. Allah has knowledge of all things. ( Surat al-Mujadala, 58:7) Allah is fully knowledgeable of everyone's intentions, thoughts, and deeds at every moment. Each of us will be called to account for all of these on the Day of Judgment. People who deny these truths will understand their mistake on the Day of Judgment. As On the Day Allah raises up all of them together, He will inform them of what they did. Allah has recorded it while they have forgotten it. Allah is a Witness of all things ( Surat alMujadala, 58:6) maintains, in the Hereafter we will be repaid for each one of our deeds: You do not engage in any matter, recite any of the Qur'an, or do any action without Our witnessing you while you are occupied with it. Not even the smallest speck eludes your Lord, either on Earth or in heaven. Nor is there anything smaller than that, or larger, which is not in a Clear Book. (Surah Yunus, 10:61) But Allah bears witness to what He has sent down to you. He has sent it down with His knowledge. The angels bear witness as well. And Allah suffices as a Witness. ( Surat an-Nisa', 4:166) Whether We show you something of what We have promised them or take you back to Us, they will still return to Us. Then Allah will be witness against what they are doing. (Surah Yunus, 10:46) We will show them Our Signs on the horizon and within themselves until it is clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not enough for your Lord that He is a witness of everything? (Surah Fussilat, 41:53)

Feminists of Aligarh
and the Questions of the Rights of the Girls in the University Campus.
Mohammad Allam, PG Teacher(History),Minto Circle, A.M.U. Aligarh From time to time, the question of gender discrimination in terms of access to central library and membership of the General education Centre are evaluated and equated with gender discrimination at A.M.U. campus. The voices which are raised in support of this discrimination have not any support from data. One of the feminist when read a paper in International seminar organized by Centre of Women Studies and raised the questions of gender discrimination then a seminar attendee asked that has she collected any data to explore the will of the parents of the girls and girls themselves on this issue?. She did not answer this question. Democracy is the name of adjustment of the interest of all. In democracy, the majority is used to be on the helm of the affairs .The interest of minority can be adjusted but cannot be allowed to dictate and dominate .But this is not true in A.M.U. campus when it comes to the right of the women. Here the cyber and radical feminists who are in minority try to dominant the campus with less than 10 percent of their presence. They believe in democracy in searching for the solution of women rights but their working are like the totalarianism of Stalinist the ideologue of left. Feminism is a new trend for highlighting oneself to enjoy power and celibacy without working for the upliftment of the girls in A.M.U. There is a group of feminists which always try to raise issues for own vested interest. Prof Sheereen Moosvi, ex chairman of Department of History and Director of centre for women studies has retired after long period of working for the cause for women in the campus. To be successor of Prof Sheereen Moosvi, there is competition among the pseudo feminists at Aligarh. To prove themselves successor of Prof Moosvi some feminists without any work tried to be champion of girls cause by raising such non-sense issues which instead of paving the path of girls education, would put obstacle in their path and create problem for the university in general and administration in particular. These feminists dont remember that what they are wishing to change over the night is matter of radical change. For which neither the mentality of the institution nor the condition of A.M.U are suitable. Instead of just raising radical slogans if these feminists would work for the betterment of girls at A.M.U. by providing better teaching at Abdullah college, career counseling and coaching for their betterment, that would be better for the causes of girls. There is a group of leading feminists at University campus who want to work for causes of the girls. Among these are Mrs. Zakiathe OSD of Aligarh Public School, Mrs. Bilqees Bano, and Mrs Waris Naseem etc. Mrs. Zakia recently has organized a two days international seminar on the life and services of Sultan Jahan-the first chancellor of A.M.U. Her Highness Sultan Jahan was an educationist and leading figure for women education. She said that women should not educate themselves for competition with men but for the sake of own betterment. She opened many schools for girls education. She contributed a lot in the development of A.M.U. Jamia Millia and other institutions at Bhopal. What about all those feminists who are more concerned on their own vested interest? The question of gender discrimination in term of library access is a political gimmick raised by the opportunist feminists to meet their vested interest. If they are really sincere in their effort for the right of the women in the campus then they should do some research work. With the help of administration they should know the will of the parents and guardians for allowing their daughters and wards to be outside of hostel till late evening. If the parents in democratic majority allow their wards then the administration should arrange for them. Otherwise if only few want to go then the rule cannot be changed by scarifying the interest of majority but could be accommodated by providing more and more facilities at the respective college and hostels of the girls. Now the girls of the Women college have own students union. This should be discussed in their Union. There is no right to any feminist other than girls Union to raise this issue to disturb the academic environment of the campus from time to time. Certain restrictions may appear as discriminations to girls but in fact they are for ultimate benefit of the society and nation. Such restrictions should not be taken as discriminations. They are meant to provide security and to uphold the dignity of noble families of the girls. Every institution has own culture and set standard which cannot be equated with others. In a statement given by Dr Rahat Abrar, Public Relation Officer of the university said that Maulana Azad library during the session 2010-11 provided reference reading facility to 11936 students who are registered as bonafide users of the library He further said that out of these students who were provided reference reading facility at the library in 2010-11 are 3670 female students. And one should know when a library works as a reference library. So where is the work of under-Graduate girls? The above mentioned data show that some of the feminists are trying to disturb the academic environment on the direction of the enemies of the University. These feminists are playing politics of gender discrimination to strengthen their position at A.M.U. campus and outside of Aligarh. The university administration should not allow such feminists to tarnish the image of the University for Personal vested interest .The voices should be raised from the victims side if there are so, if not then other should be asked to confine to own limits. For them there are many issues and works to do like providing quality education, career counseling, coaching and guidance etc. where these campus feminist could play important role but they have not time for these constructive works. They need issues, not the works to do for the upliftment of their sisters. At this point, the good feminists who are working tirelessly and silently for the upliftment of the girls right in A.M.U. campus for long should sideline these propagandist feminists. The old respected feminists know that the role is crucial and should be done in noble way. A woman of noble family knows the noble rights of noble girls and women. Let the path of women freedom move gradually and slowly in noble way, not in barbaric way like revolution which would perish the road of freedom for girls.

Beyond Excellence
Part-3: Doing ones Best!
This is Part 3 on the series Beyond Excellence: The Making of a Muhsin, by brother MuQeet Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Assalamu Alaikum. When Allah is so good and gracious to us, should we not be good to Him, and consequently be good to ourselves and to others? If we are not good and true to Allah then we will be guilty of being ungrateful to Him. As Allah reveals in the Quran: O man! What has seduced you from your Lord Most Beneficent? Him Who created you, fashioned you in due proportion, and gave you a just bias? (82: 6, 7) Justice and reason demand that man should do good in the cause of Allah, as Allah has been good in the cause of humanity. The Quran says: do good as Allah has been good to you (28: 77) And do good, truly Allah loves the good doers (2:195) One should not be under the illusion that by being or doing good, one is doing a favour unto Allah or His Messenger, Muhammad (Peace be upon him). It is only for ones own good, one is asked to do good. If you do good, you do good for your own selves. (17:7) He who gratefully acknowledges the favours and bounties of Allah by submitting his whole self to the will of Allah in fact grasps that firmest hand-hold which is never to be broken. Whoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a Muhsin (doer of good), has grasped indeed the firmest hand-hold: and to Allah shall Bakhabar all things return (31:22) MOTIVATION TO DO GOOD While enjoining Muslims to do good deeds, Islam also encourages and motivates them to do so. He that does good shall have ten times as much to his credit: He that does evil shall only be recompensed according to his evil: No wrong shall be done unto (any of) them (6:160) Narrated by Abu Huraira (R A) who said that the Messenger of Allah said, When any one of you adorns his Islam, then whatever good act he does, he is rewarded ten to seven hundred times of it, but if he does anything evil, just that much is recorded against him. This narration clearly says that he who beautifies his faith and Islamic belief by doing good deeds; the worth of the reward is greatly enhanced. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: The most weighty (heavy) thing that would be put in the scale of a believer on the Day of Judgement would be his good manners and Allah very much dislikes the man who used obscene language and was abusive (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood) Even Recommendations Count! A person who motivates others to do good things and recommends for a good cause will have his share of reward. Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein: and whoever recommends and helps an evil cause, shares in its burden (4:85) S o u r c e : https://yassarnalquran.wordpress.c om/

Be mindful in your treatment of women!

By Abu Muhammed The recent violent rape and mutilation of a 17 year old girl in the sleepy town of Bredasdorp in the Cape Province of South Africa sparked country wide outrage and anger. While this incident has placed South Africa squarely in the international limelight as being the Rape Capital of the world with an estimated 683 000 incidents of rape annually, it has to be stated that Rape is an international phenomenon that takes place both in developed and developing countries, in countries traditionally classified as civilised and first world as well as those known as uncivilised and third world. While we can go down the route of making this issue a numbers game and declaring the country with the lowest incidence of rape to be most civilised, the fact of the matter is that even one rape is one too much. Rape is reflective of a deep-seated, systemic dysfunctionality of a society wherein women are treated with total disrespect having no value. On the scale of ill treatment and disrespect shown to women rape may well weigh the heaviest, given its gruesome nature and violation of a womans honour there are many other acts of physical, verbal and psychological abuse, mostly domestic perpetrated against women even in the most civilised countries and societies, symptomatic of a serious underlying psychological problem in the manner and way women are treated. In America, the so called bastion of freedom and liberties of the modern world and the protagonist of modern day feminism, 22 million women in the United States have been raped in their lifetime. (National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey 2010) More women are injured due to domestic violence than those injured in car accidents and muggings combined(Hope Alliance report) One woman is beaten by her husband or partner every 15 seconds (UN Study on the Status of Women) 25% of American women will suffer domestic violence in their lifetimes (Survey of Womens health) Cost of domestic violence by partners exceeds $5.8 billion of which $4.1 billion are for direct medical and mental health costs. More than 8 million days of paid work lost collectively by victims of domestic violence which is equivalent to the loss of 32 000 full-time jobs (Cost of Intimate Partner violence against women in the United States, Centres for Disease Control & Prevention, Atlanta) If such is the incidence of physical abuse one can well imagine the level of verbal and psychological abuse and general disrespect that women face. The manifestation of abuse is nothing other than a reflection of the psyche of society moulded, shaped and churned out by the mass media machinery where women are used to sell anything from a tooth pick to a truck tyre! Hence women are seen as nothing other than commodities and sex objects whose only function is to serve the visual and physical gratification of men. A woman is judged more on her physical appearance than her mental and intellectual capacity. The multimillion dollar fashion and cosmetic industry, which generates almost $600 billion a year, is sufficient proof of this. The current situation that women the world over find themselves in, although camouflaged by all the glitz and Bakhabar glam our, is n o t very differ ent to t h e situati o n that wome

n found themselves in during the period of Jaahiliya (Ignorance) of pre Islamic Arabia. Arabia was a male-dominated society. Women had no status or rights of any kind other than as sex objects and commodities that could be bought, sold and even disposed of. The number of women a man could marry was not fixed. When a man died, his son inherited all his wives except his own mother. A savage custom of the society was to bury their female infants alive. Modern day abortion being no different other than being more sophisticated. Even if a man did not wish to bury his daughter alive, he still had to uphold this honourable tradition, being unable to resist social pressures. Drunkenness and gambling were common vices. It was during such times that women were sold off in lieu of debts or offered as guarantees. One point worthy of mention is that in spite of women being treated in the manner mentioned above it was still considered an act of cowardice for a man to violently attack or show aggression to a woman. It was at this time and to such a community of drunken, male dominated and war mongering people that Allah Taala chose to send His Final Prophet (May Peace be upon him) with the final revelation Al Quraan. In a period of 23 years the Noble Messenger of Allah made such an effort and prepared these backward desert dwellers to become the beacons of light that would radiate out of the sand dunes of the deserts of Arabia to illuminate the minds, hearts and souls of humanity who were then grovelling in the oceans of darkness. Together with removing Idol worship, forging human brotherhood between the black and the white, the slave and the master, uplifting the oppressed and downtrodden, giving hope to the weak, inculcating sober habits and perfecting good character he also redefined the position of women in society and restored to them their equality, honour, dignity, humanity and position in society. No more was a woman a mere commodity with no rights but rather she was recognised as an individual with full rights to ownership, education, inheritance, respect, honour and marriage. Perhaps the highest accolade given to a woman was that Islam recognised her sacrifice during child bearing and birth (Quran-Surah 46, Verse 15) and therefore made her deserving of most respect from her children even above the father (Hadith-Bukhari & Muslim) and also categorically stating that Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother (HadithAhmad, Nasai)

Be mindful in your treatment of women!

This venerated position of women was imprinted on the psyche of every male of the society. This was achieved through equating the service and happiness of parents to great and meritorious acts like striving in the Path of Allah and Hijrah (migration) for the sake of Allah. Such was the zeal with which the once male dominated society treated and served their women that a companion once carried his mother on his back to allow for her to fulfil the rights of the Haj (Pilgrimage) and yet thereafter acknowledging that he had not fulfilled the right of her one turning towards him as an infant out of concern for his well being. The Noble Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) also said, Among the Muslims the most perfect, as regards his faith, is the one whose character is excellent, and the best among you are those who treat their women well (Hadith-Tirmidhi). In another narration it is mentioned I command you to take good care of the women (Hadith-Bukhari) and also, Do not beat Allahs female servants (i.e women) (Hadith-Abu Daud, Ibn Majah). The Noble Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) also said How does anyone of you beat his wife as he beats his camel and then embraces her? (Hadith-AlBukhari) Based on the above some scholars like Ata bin Rabah (May Allahs mercy be with him) stated, the fact that the Noble Messenger of Allah(pbuh) never resorted to the permission of beating and said, He who beats his wife is not a good person (Hazimi, al-Itibar) From the above we learn that Islam encourages the kind treatment of women and forbids in both word and spirit, their abuse in any form, be it physical, verbal, emotional and psychological. It therefore stands to reason that rape is something that Islam condemns in the strongest terms and, in fact a rapist in an Islamic country would be sentenced to death by the Islamic courts It was this type of thought that permeated the psyche of Muslim societies from the time of the Noble Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) until this day and any behaviour to the contrary by Muslims today is nothing other than their deviation from the principles advocated by Islam and the lifestyle of the Noble Messenger of Allah(pbuh). Issues like honour killings and spousal abuse in Muslim societies which are often highlighted in the media and for which Islam is criticised are practices that have their place in culture and have no basis in the Quraan and Sunnah. Shariah always has an inner as well as an outer mechanism that are used to achieve its objectives. In the issue discussed, if the psyche of the society could be described as the inner mechanism to allow for women to be respected and honoured then it must be said as an outer mechanism Islam advocates the institution of Hijab so that women are judged for what they are truly worth and not merely objects for mens gratification. As much as the media always makes an issue of and maligns the treatment of women in Islam it is interesting to note that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world (Guiness book of records) and in the west, in particular, most reverts are women who have no hesitation in donning the hijab. In fact, they do so with much pride. In Islam rape and all other forms of women abuse are reviled. In fact The Noble Messenger of Allah (pbuh) discouraged and penalised adultery, fornication and rape. Wail ibn Hujr reports of an incident when a woman was raped. When he the rapist was later positively identified the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him ) said Stone him to death. (Hadith-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud). May Almighty Allah Taala grant us the wisdom, courage and moral strength to uphold the rights and dignity of our women in society ameen. We appreciate feedback on our articles. We are going to counter it as follows: We will first keep our own home safe and children secure and not bother as to what is the status of community. We will not even comment on any such issues for fear of inviting any trouble for ourselves. We will not even encourage the doers in our community doing good work for socio economic and educational development of community. We will not generate recignise and nurture our leadership Instead we will kill it. We will not unite and protest against media harming the community by giving judgment against it. We will not learn any lessons from a tiny community Sikhs who come to street unitedly if any one tries to harm or damage thier community. We will not learn any lessons even after Babri Mosque, Gujrat and Sachar committee report and we will not stand solidly behind any leader who takes up our cuase instead we will pull his leg. We will not allow our Alumni associations and institutions (educational or social) to grow, instead make all efforts to either divide them or destroy. We will keep sabr and sabr coz this Duniya is not for us what awaits us a good Hereafter in lieu of our entirely personal religious rituals. We will wait and expect others to take up the cuase of community like education and harassment thus we wiil expect that a Sir Syed or Gandhi should be born but not in me or in my home. We will counter it by keeping ourselves divided in various sects- Sunni Shia Bareilvi Deobandi Ahle Hadis and fight among ourselves. We will counter it simply by watching talking and preaching on powelessness of community and take no action.

it is as simple as that.

Imaan:
From Weakness to Strength via Sabr....
From Beyond Education collection Nissar Nadiadwalas Editorial forYoung Muslims Sabr enjoys a top privilege in Islam. The Qur'an mentions it between 80-90 times in different styles. In Kitabul Ilm of Sahih Bukhari, Ibn Masood (r.a.)is quoted: As Sabru Nisful Emaan, while Yaqeen is complete emaan. Scholars explain this term as-Sabru nisful emaan that half of Islamic commandments are based on Sabr! If a believer observes patience then he can implement 50 percent of Shariah, and if he is impatient then he may fail to implement a large number of commandments. Scholars prayed a lot for sabr. In Surah Barkarah, verse 250, the translation says: Our Lord! Pour on us Sabr and make our feet firm (in the battle) and help us against those who reject the faith. How can you be firm without Sabr? In the battle you lose your men, you face injury, you fear being killed, yet you continue being there because it is Sabr which makes you firm that is why the above dua has "Pour on us Sabr..." The magicians who accepted Islam after their magic was over powered by Moosa's Miracle requested Allah, Pour out on us Sabr. It was when the death was close upon them. Those who desire the help of Allah are also told in this verse and other verses of Surah Bakarah. Seek the help of Allah through Sabr and Salah. Sabr is a source of strength. It gives immense psychological strength too. Recall the situation when our Prophet (pbuh) and Abu Bakr (r.a.) were in the cave and the enemies were so close to them that they just had to look at their own toes and would spot the two men. Abu Bakr (r.a.) feared but Rasullulah (pbuh) assured him. What is your opinion about those two when the third is Allah? The verse number 40, of Surah Toubah was revealed commemorating the confidence of the Prophet (pbuh) in Allah and it was an immense display of Sabr. Thousands of years ago another Prophet (pbuh) was rewarded for sabr, who stood on the bank of the sea with no way to escape and his enemies within his sight. It was here that Prophet Moosa (a.s.), when questioned by his men who were afraid, showed immense patience and rejected their fear saying KALLA! My Lord is with me and He will guide me. The word Kallah means "Impossible!" NOT POSSIBLE that my enemy will catch me. Then he said "My Lord is with me. Pharaoh had a huge well equipped army but Moosa had Allah. With whom is Allah? The Qur'an says multiple times. Allah is with those who show Patience. Moosa (a.s.) showed patience and Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) showed patience, so Allah justified their confidence in Him and helped them because He is with those who are patient. These days Muslim Nations are politically weak. In spite of being 55+ Countries, nobody cares to ask our views, our lives are cheap, our lands are easily accessible, and our rulers can be Bakhabar driven out overnight. The Qur'an testifies with the example of Bani Israel's victory that Sabr is one of the main qualities that turns an entire Nation from a weak society to a power packed community. That is what Moosa (a.s.) said to his people, Pray for help from Allah and bear with patience, for, the earth belongs to Allah to give a heritage to such of His servants as He pleases. Surah al-Ar'af ch 7, verse 128. The community was about to lose sabr when Moosa further said to them: It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you inheritors in the earth... says the 129th verse of the same Surah. The Bani Israel though they were rebellious and sinners yet they had people who showed extreme patience and that is why Allah appointed leaders among them giving them guidance till they persevered with Sabr and continued to have faith, says in Surah as-Sajdah chapter 32, verse 24. Allah gave them political leadership and religious leadership as well. Out of the 25 Prophets mentioned by name in the Qur'an, a large number of them were from Bani Israel. Prophets like Dawood and Suleman were Kings as well, peace be upon them. The Bani Israel turned into a super power of their time when Prophet Dawood routed the Palestinians and King Suleman was feared by many rulers of his times. Sabr is a quality that transforms not only an individual but an entire community into a strong Nation.

How to Show Gratitude for the Blessing of Motherhood

by Sofia Nasir
Posted on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Islam & Productivity Motherhood is a blessing which has been given to us by Allah (glorified and exalted be He). Its full of ups and downs, tears and laughs. At times tiring, other times energising. Lets face it, being a mother in the 21st century is not easy; so here are a few tips to keep you on your toes. What is motherhood? The responsibility of nurturing a child. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) stated: Paradise lies at the feet of your mother [Sunan An-Nasi]. This clearly indicates the importance of mothers and the high status they were given by Allah (glorified and exalted be He) and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him). Mothers are the first point of comfort in a horrible situation, a n d therefore motherho od should not be taken as a l i g h t matter. A man came to t h e Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him)and said, O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) said: Your mother. The man said, Then who? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) said: Then your mother. The man further asked, Then who? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) said: Then your mother. The man asked again, Then who? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) said: Then your father. [Muslim]. While there is an abundance of tips on fulfilling ones role as a mother, here are a few important ones I have compiled for you: 1. Pray to Allah: Make regular dua to Allah, the power of dua is so immense. Say: My Lord! Grant me righteous offspring. [Quran: Chapter 37, Verse 100] as much as you can. 2. Strive to be caring and compassionate: Be patient with your child whatever the situation. Always remember children are innocent and need your mercy. The following was reported about the Messenger of Allah (glorified and exalted be He) : I never saw anyone who was more compassionate towards children than Allahs Messenger (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him). His son Ibrahim was in the care of a wet nurse in the hills around Madinah. He would go there, and we would go with him, and he would enter the house, pick up his son and kiss him, then come back. [Muslim] The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) said: Aisha, verily Allah is kind and He loves kindness and confers upon kindness which he does not confer upon severity and does not confer upon anything else besides it (kindness). [Muslim] 3. Praise them regularly: This is a very powerful technique and will make them proud of themselves and confident. 4. Ensure your child loves Allah (glorified and exalted be He): Reminding them of all the blessings Allah (glorified and exalted be He) has showered upon them i.e. the eyes, ears, tongue, legs, etc. the list is endless. This will instill only love and make them appreciative and grateful towards Allah (glorified and exalted be He). Also, in adulthood, it will incline them to the way of Allah (glorified and exalted be He) inshallah. 5. Be very friendly: This includes having regular talks about random things, this will make them feel comfortable with you in the long run. Also play with your child as much as possible; trust me they love this kind of thing. 6. Teach them responsibility: From a young age give them responsibilities i.e. for their toys and rooms. 7. Keep them away from gadgets: In this fast growing environment its so hard to keep up with technology for adults let alone children. Have we stopped to wonder how this is affecting our lifestyles? In the name of efficiency and effectiveness, a new gadget is released for kids almost every day. You should try and encourage your child to play outside rather than on the PSP or iPhone. Encourage them to read a book rather than playing on the computer. I found that the more gadgets a child has, the lazier they become. 8. Inspire them: Rather than making them fantasize about Spiderman and Barbie, tell them about real heroes like Abu Baqr as Sadiq, Umar, Uthman and Ali (may Allh be pleased with them). For the girls, Asiya, Maryam, Khadiha and Fatima [ranham]. Tell them how these heroes and heroines strove for Allah (glorified and exalted be He) and how they spread Islam. 9. Involve them in acts of worship: If they grow up with your Islamic character, it wont be a burden for them when they are older. Pray with them, recite Quran together, and discuss Islamic issues with them as a family. If they grow up seeing these values in effect from childhood, they will easily accept them when they grow up. They will understand its the best way of life. 10. Differentiate between halal and haram:You need to explain to a child what is permissible to them from Allah (glorified and exalted be He) and what is forbidden. They need to know in terms of eating haram and halal, as well as actions that are halal or haram like free mixing etc. 11. Bedtime stories: This has been a very popular way of putting a child to sleep. You can read to them the duas of sleeping and the importance of it. Explain to them how the angels will protect them by reciting ayat ul kursi as prescribed by the Rasool of Allah (glorified and exalted be He). Something to keep you motivated through your journey of motherhood: The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allh be upon him) of Allah (glorified and exalted be He) said whoever takes care of two girls until they reach adulthood, He and I will come together on the day of resurrection and he interlaced his fingers. (Meaning in paradise) [Al adab Al mufrad] I as a mother have faced many challenges, and above are the things I felt worked for my children and made motherhood a little easier SubhaanAllah. Please share your own tips to help others in their motherhood journey! About the Author: Sofia Nasir is a mother of three, alhumdulillah. She is a student of knowledge and looking into writing as a career.

The role of Indian police

About 17 years ago a book on communal riots and Indian police was published in English, Hindi and Urdu and was well received in earnest circles. Its author was Vibhuti Narain Rai, a senior officer of Indian Police Services. After a long research of one year, he, in the light of ground realities and authentic information, brought to the notice of the nation the irresponsible behaviour of Indian police and its heinous role in riots. But in fact this was not a book rather a research document which he had put before the police establishment for serious consideration so that police behaviour might be reformed in its light. But the police system totally neglected it. Therefore, Mr. Rai had to get his precious and extraordinary research work Its not about police alone The question here is why after all is this character of the police of Indian State? Teesta has confined her analysis to this question. But the area of the question should be wider. Is there all well with other departments of the State? Now this question takes us to the formation of independent India. The situation relates to a mentality which was created before the independence. It was this mentality that created the situation for partition and all the responsibility of partition was thrown on the shoulders of Muslims. A part of the land with Muslim concentration areas was separated in the name of Pakistan. Then a well-thought-out unwritten policy was adopted for the Muslims opting to remain in Independent India. According to the declaration, though the Constitution of the land remains democratic and secular, in which all citizens hold equal status, there is respect for all religious entities; however the ground reality is quite different. A particular mentality was granted full independence and all facilities to create hatred against religious entities and prepare lots of biased government workers with the help of its private educational institutions, literature and organised groups. Today it is that mentality which is at work. The question is not about police establishment only; it is about the behaviour of the State. Therefore, people like Teesta Setalvad and Vibhuti Naraian Rai should concentrate on this very basic question. published in book form. Renowned and active human rights activist Teesta Setalvad has mentioned it in her recent analysis (The Hindu, 20 February). The article was written in the context of the recent riots in Dhule (Maharashtra) which was in fact one-sided police action against Muslims. The scenes of this police barbarity were well captured in mobile cameras but the media did not pay any importance to them. After publication of the interview Thereafter Teesta Setalvad questioned the entire police structure and its system and said that she had done a long interview with Vibhuti Narain Rai in 1995 which was published in about 30 publications. In the interview, Mr. Rai, in the light of his experiences and observations, further highlighted the role of Indian police, according to which the rioters belonging to the majority community take the police as their protector and friend during the riots. Teesta has written that after the publication of Mr Rais book and her interview with him the government and the police department did not take notice of it; however responsible citizens and some senior security officers, including the founder and former head of Border Security Force KF Rustomji and DIG Padma Rosha, turned towards it. Expressing concern over this situation, he had emphasised that the police department should take stock of the serious issue of communalism and casteism and take immediate corrective measures otherwise this situation of communal conflict among the various sections of society will take a serious turn. In her article, Teesta has also severely criticised the priorities of TV channels. Bakhabar

Understanding Moderation and Extremism, Part-2

Shakeel Ashraf <sashraf1966@yahoo.com> Community of middle way: [Quran 2:143: And it is thus that We appointed you to be the community of the middle way (ummat wasat) so that you might be witnesses to all mankind and the Messenger might be a witness to you.] This is the declaration of the leadership of the Muslim Community a righteous and noble community, which must not go beyond proper limits, but follow the middle course and must deal out justice evenly to the nations of the world as an impartial judge, and must base all its relations with other nations on truth and justice. The meaning of "We have appointed you as ummat wasat so that you may be witnesses in regard to mankind and the Messenger may be a witness in regard to you" is: On the Judgement Day when all mankind will be called to account together, the Messenger, as Our authorized representative, will give evidence in regard to you to prove that he had imparted to you, by word and by deed, without any reservation, the whole teaching of sound thought, righteous deed and justice given by Us. Then you, being representatives of the Messenger, in your turn, will be required to give evidence to prove that you had done your utmost to impart, by word and deed, to mankind whatever the Messenger had imparted to you just as you had received it from the Messenger. Quranic classification of Muslims: [Quran 35:32: Then We made those people heirs of this Book, whom We chose (for this inheritance) from among Our servants; now someone of them is being unjust to his own self, and someone following a middle course, and someone excelling in good deeds by Allah's leave. This is the supreme bounty.] According to the above verse, the Muslims, who have been sorted out from all mankind so that they may become heirs to the Book of Allah, and convey its message to others after the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Though this Book has been presented before all human beings, those who accepted it in the first instance were chosen for the honor to become heirs to a great Book like the Qur'an and the trustees of the teaching and guidance imparted by a great Messenger like the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). All these Muslims are not alike but are divided into three classes: (1) Those unjust to themselves: They are those who believe sincerely and honestly that the Qur'an is the Book of Allah and Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace) the Messenger of Allah, but in practical life do not fully follow the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. They are believers but sinful; culprits but not rebellious; weak of faith but not hypocritical and unbelieving at heart. Therefore, although they are unjust to themselves," they have been included among the chosen servants of God and among the heirs to the Book; otherwise, obviously the rebels and the hypocrites and the unbelieving people could not be so treated and honored. This class of the believers have been mentioned first of All because they are most numerous among the Muslims. (2) Those following the middle course: They are the people who fulfill the obligations of this inheritance to some extent but not fully. They are obedient as well as erring. They have not left their self altogether free but try as best as they can to turn it to God's obedience; however, at times they give it undue freedom and become involved in sin. Thus, their life becomes a combination of both the good and the evil actions. They are less numerous than the first group but more than the third; that is why they have been mentioned second. (3) Those excelling in good deeds: They are the people of the first rank among the heirs to the Book, and they are the ones who are doing full justice to the inheritance. They are in the forefront in following and adhering to the Book and the Sunnah; in conveying the message of God to His servants, in offering the sacrifices for the sake of the true Faith, and in every pious and good work. They arc not the ones who would commit a sin deliberately, but if they happened to commit a sin inadvertently, they would be filled with remorse as soon as they became conscious of it. They are less numerous than the people of the first two groups, and therefore, have been mentioned last, although they merit the first place in the matter of doing justice to the heritage of the Book of Allah.

Conservative, moderate and liberal:

Recently in a discussion a participant described that Muslims are divide in three categories namely conservatives, moderates and liberals and are sitting at three different poles of a triangle. He considered the moderates as true followers of Islam. Do we see any similarity here with Quranic classification? Who is conservative? Is he unjust to himself, or he is a follower of middle course or he is the one excelling in good deeds? Similarly who is moderate and who is liberal?

Real moderate?
In all our prayers five times a day while reciting surah fatiha we ask Allah, show us the right way, the way of those You have favored, who did not incurYour wrath, who are not astray. Serat e Mustaqeem is not just a thin straight line on a drawing. It is a broad highway that can lead man to eternal success. Alas, conservatives try to narrow it to the size of their mean understanding and liberals think the verbal recitation of kalm-eshahdat has put them on an expressway of limitless width. There are others who think being complacent to their religion is moderation and one who is devout and steadfast is conservative. Real moderate is not the one who is carried away with prevalence and contemporariness of life but the one who after adopting the right way excels in good deeds with sincere intention to please his Lord. Limits prescribed by Allah are not to curtail material progress of mankind but it is to protect the mankind from its harms. [By the Time! Man is surely in loss, except those who believed and did good works, and exhorted one another to Truth, and exhorted one another to patience. Surah Al Asr]

Mr. Modi, you are not welcome: Wharton Debate

Ram Puniyani The withdrawal of invitation for Narendra Modi to speak at Wharton Business School of Pennsylvania (March 2013) has been looked at in different ways by different commentators. Those who are opposing the invitation withdrawal, point out that it is a violation of the norms of freedom of speech. They say that Modi is an elected person in Indian system and his views on development of Gujarat under his leadership need to be heard by the people from business circles. Those opposing his invitation argue that inviting him is like giving legitimacy to his total record. His role in Gujarat violence, his failure to prevent the carnage and give justice to the violence victims cannot be delinked from his so called development. They point out that as far as debating and engaging with Modi is concerned it cannot be achieved by inviting him as a key note speaker; this invitation already gives a high pedestal and recognition to him. He should be interrogated, engaged and debated with on different forums which give equal ground to those wanting to debate with him. They also point that Gujarats development is a lopsided one, it is projected more than what the reality is. In Gujarat the levels of malnutrition, child and maternal mortality is higher, Gujarat is comparatively low on human growth index. The anti SC/ST atrocity cases are one index of human rights record of the state. In taking these cases of atrocities against SC/ST Gujarat is lowest on the rung, with only 25% convictions. According to analysts the growth of Gujarat is more of propaganda as many other states have done much better during this period. The lowest in the scale of development in Gujarat are minorities and SC/STs. Modi was invited by the students of Wharton to speak on Gujarat development. After this a few Professors circulated a petition asking for withdrawal of the invitation. Within just few hours the petition got a massive response and was signed not only by the professors, many others: alumni, the students, doctors lawyers and other stake holders also supported the petition. The large number of signatures and the logic which the petition put forward clinched the issue and students, who are the ones to decide, withdrew the invitation. The United States has denied VISA to Narendra Modi since 2005, despite his being an elected Chief Minister of the state. The Commonwealth countries so far have been keeping him at arms length, but after his third victory, these countries want to mend the relationship with him, as his projection as the Prime Ministerial candidate are floating around in a strong manner. US had denied him VISA for his role in the carnage of 2002, and the denial continues. Similarly due to popular pressure after sustained campaigns; the activists groups succeeded in stopping the huge dollar funding from US to the RSS affiliate India Development Relief Fund was collecting huge amounts and supporting the political work of RSS combine in the garb of cultural work. This RSS combines work is essentially to build up Hatred against minorities, through its various organizations. While one is aware about the role of America in the promotion of politics of terror, in the formation of Al Qaeda in particular, while it is also known that US is out to attack other countries to promote its political-economic interests, at the same time there are various norms which different wings of American state follow. There are various civic norms which are stringent and are aimed to sustain and promote democratic values. The Civil society has also been campaigning to use this space, democratic-liberal one provided by these provisions of US system and try to stop the violation of human rights and retrograde activities in different places. This is a contradictory situation. The state by and large in its foreign affairs is like a Big Brother, violating all the laws of international behavior and laws and intimidating the smaller powers. There is no doubt about its role in international affairs, as a super power; it is undermining the global democracy; it has mauled the emerging global democracy amongst nations, which was getting expressed through rising clout of United Nations, has been sabotaged by US in particular. As a state it has promoted dictators and has been thick as thief with different dictators and autocrats. At another level, the civic society has come up steeped in civility with respect for the norms of modern democracies, to some extent. So we see the dichotomous processes going on here. It is due to this pressure of prevailing norms and civil society campaigns that US is denying Visa to Modi. Is this denial of Visa to Modi an insult to our country? No way. It just shows us the mirror of the state of affairs in our country. Many a US bodies do keep monitoring phenomenon like, Religious freedom in other countries. Many of them keep making a list of terrorist organizations. All this monitoring is showing the diversities of our societies. In the same set up we are seeing two contradictory phenomenons. Coming back to Modi, Wharton students body has gone more by the norms of civil society; has recognized that Modi may be claiming and many others may be buying his story of development, but the truth lies somewhere else. The petitioners opposing the Modi invite correctly point out that Human rights issues and development cannot be separated. As far as Modi being a democratically elected person is concerned, the analysts can point out that his victory has been based on his politics of polarization, not on the inclusive politics. He has successfully scared the majority community about the threat of minority community. This goes on and on to make the foundations of his victory and there by his followers claiming that he has been elected, so all is well. Only thing they ignore at this point is that even Hitler had come to power through democratic means. As far as his development is concerned it is de facto the development of industrial houses. One such industrialist, Adani, was the sponsor of Wharton meet. He withdrew his sponsorship the moment invitation to Modi was withdrawn. Modis mode of development means giving all freebees to Tata, Adanai, Ambani and company while the poor ones are getting more marginalized. This invitation being taken back just reflects that Modis propaganda has been punctured and a reminder that the violation of human rights violation of the weak cannot be exonerated at any cost. Why did Allah call people of Makkah as Mushrik?

By Siddi Rizwan Damad <srdamad@gmail.com> Praise be to the LORD of all that exists What is KUFR, KAFIR, SHIRK and MUSHRIK? KAAFIR is the one who denies and conceals the truth. The basic meaning of the word kufr in Arabic is concealment. SHIRK means devoting worship to anyone or anything other than ALLAH. MUSHRIK is the one who associates partner with ALLAH. Dictionary meaning of ASSOCIATE is to join as a partner, friend, or companion Dictionary meaning of DEVOTE (verb) to commit by a solemn act or dedicate an act of worship In real life WHY DO WE ASSOCIATE WITH OTHER PEOPLE? Very simple for HELP .. to get HELP when required, can anybody think of anything else..what are the reasons for forming ASSOCIATIONS? Kufr may take the form of denying and rejecting, but the mushrik may also believe in Allaah. This is the difference between the mushrik and the kaafir. Kufr is denial and concealment of the truth, such as one who denies that prayer is obligatory, or that zakaah is obligatory, or that fasting Ramadaan is obligatory, or one who denies that zina is haraam, or that drinking intoxicants is haraam, or that disobeying ones parents is haraam, and so on. Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Between a man and shirk and kufr there stands his giving up prayer. Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh from Jaabir ibn Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him). And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The covenant that differentiates us from them is prayer; whoever gives it up is a kaafir. Narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasaai and Ibn Maajah with a saheeh isnaad from Buraydah ibn al-Husayb (may Allaah be pleased with him). And Allaah is the Source of strength. WHY DID ALLAH CALL PEOPLE OF MAKKAH AS MUSHRIK? All muslims are aware that during Jahiliya (period before Prophet hood), there were people who had names like ABDULLA, ABDUL MUTTALIB, and so on. It means that they were aware of ONE ALLAH. Then what was the reason that Allah called them MUSHRIK. We need to think friends, are we muslims also walking on the same path of those mushriks, we also believe in ONE ALLAH as they used to believe. Lets see what Quran says, why did ALLAH called them MUSKRIKS.. Surah Al Isra, 40: What! Has your Rabb preferred to give you sons and adopted angels as daughters for Himself? Certainly you are uttering a monstrous statement. 42: Tell them: If there were other gods besides Him as the mushrikin say, they would have certainly tried to find a way to dethrone the Master of the Throne. 57: Those to whom they pray, themselves seek the means of access to their Rabb - trying as to who can be more near - they hope for His Mercy and fear His punishment, for the punishment of your Rabb is terrible indeed. SurahYunus, 31: Ask them (mushreek): "Who provides your sustenance from the heaven and from the earth? Who has control over hearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living? Who regulates the universe?" They will soon reply: "Allah." Say: "Why do you not then fear Him for you going against the truth? Sura Al Ahqaf, 5: And who could be more astray than the one who invokes those deities besides Allah who cannot answer him till the Day of Resurrection - which, in fact, are not even aware that they are being invoked? Surah Al Imran, 60: Say: "O people of the Book! Let us get together on what is common between us and you: that we shall worship none but Allah; that we shall not associate any partners with Him; that we shall not take from among ourselves any lords beside Allah." If they reject your invitation then tell them: "Bear witness that we are Muslims (who have surrendered to Allah). Here the Point to think is even Jews and Christians believed in ONE ALLAH as mentioned in Quran but took ESSA (AS) and UZAIR (AS) as sons of ALLAH, meaning the ultimate power is with ALLAH only, and his sons are their helpers. Associating with ALLAH doesnt only mean that we WORSHIP IDOLS, what is the reason Mushrik needed partner with ALLAH, simple reason for HELP. They used to ask the idols of their pious people, angels, messengers, etc to HELP them as they were close to ALLAH. ALL THE PIOUS PEOPLE CAME CLOSER TO ALLAH COZ OF FOLLOWING QURAN AND SUNNAH. NOTHING ELSE. Please analyze are we DEVOTING OUR ACTS OF WORSHIP to others than ALLAH, hence throwing ourselves to commit shirk. Think what are the ACTS OF WORSHIPwe devoteto pious people.. REMEMBER THE ONLY DESTINATION AS SAID BY ALLAH FOR SHIRK IS JAHANNAM. And ALLAH knows the best

Reference-News Item: How to buy Maulanas Ask Nitish Kumar

Asrarul Haque, Gurgaon
Recently there was a news item published in some periodical about how the Nitish Government of Bihar purchased the Maulanaas of Bihar by giving them lucrative posts and other benefits. The news item was circulated on large scale by some sympathizer of Indian Muslims. I am sure the news could shock any sensible Muslim. Reason is that we expect the Maulanaas to lead an ideal lifestyle to be emulated by others. But we quite often find that the Maulanaas and Moulvis behave in irresponsible manner. It becomes more important as non-Muslims look at them to evaluate Islam and Muslims. We need to analyze the reasons behind such behavior of our Maulanaas and Moulvis and then to introspect if we, as the Muslim society, are responsible to some extent for their behaviour. First let us start from where these Maulanas and Moulvis come from. They are produced in hordes year after year in different Madarsaas spread all over the country. Few of the Madarsaas are well managed and receive adequate funds for their sustenance. But most of them have to fend for themselves. The Madarsaa people collect funds in the form of Zakaat, Sadqaa, Fitraa, Charm-eQurbani (hides of sacrificed animals) etc. Still, there is deficiency and inadequacy. Hence, Madarsaa people collect funds in different mosques and by visiting households. But it becomes more like begging. The persons who collect the funds are commonly called Safeers and many of them keep on moving round the year. Especially, during the months of Ramazaan, they enhance their activities as people donate more during Ramazaans. No doubt, the Safeers are compensated for the expenses and at times also get some share out of the collected funds, but it becomes more or less like begging. Also, the children studying in the Madarsaas are generally sent out to collect funds by most of the Madarsaas. A related issue is that the children who enter the Madarsaas are mostly from poor families. The parents are unable to support them and provide them modern education. Hence, they send them to the Madarsaas, where most of their day to day needs are taken care of. Obviously, the children cannot insulate themselves from the feeling of inferiority as compared to children who study in other institutions and are supported by their families. There is one more tradition prevalent in our society. People ask children from Madarsaas to come to their homes for lunch or dinner, if there is some happy occasion in the family like marriage, Aqeeqaa, birthday celebration etc. Also, when there is some death in the family, the family members invite children from the Madarsaas, to have food. It is considered a good deed and the thinking is that the dead soul gets Sawaab. There is no harm in this practice. Inviting guests for food is a Sunnat. But the guests must be treated as guests, not as beggars. In our society, the Madarsaa children are treated more like beggars. They are made to sit on one side and served food separately. The family members and other guests do not join them. That way their feeling of inferiority is reinforced again and again. Now, let us look at the next phase. Once, the children pass out of the Madarsaas, they have no avenues for regular jobs. They have to find some avenues to support themselves and their families. They have no other expertise except to recite Quran. In case of better Madarsaas they are also taught Fiqhaa, Hadeeth and to some extent Urdu language. But with that kind of limited knowledge, they are unable to find any job except that they can enter some mosque and become Imaam or Muazzin. That is what most of them do. As a side avenue they start giving tuitions in the locality and teach children and others how to recite Quran and if so desired, they make them learn reading and writing Urdu language as well. That is the reason that there is heavy competition among the Maulanaas and Moulvis to get into some mosque to become

Imaam or Muazzin. A few join some Madarsaas to become teachers. Those who are Huffaaz (those who can recite Quran without looking at the text) have another avenue to generate some income. They lead the Tarawee prayers during Ramazaans in different mosques. At the end of the Tarawee, they are paid some money. It generally runs into few thousand rupees. That is why we can find intense competition and even lobbying by Huffaaz to get place in some mosque to lead the Tarawee prayers. Some of those who pass out from the Madarsaas, and are more enterprising, start their own Madarsaas. Starting a Madarsaa is quite easy. No infrastructure is required. Generally, the Madarsaas are located in mosques and the infrastructures of the mosques are used for the Madarsaas. Also, the Madarsaas have an inherent advantage. These institutions can utilize Zakaat, Sadqaa, Fitraa, Charm-e- Qurbani etc. Mosques cannot utilize these funds. As a result, the Madarsaas are able to generate some income and the rest is managed through donations. Also, on different occasions people invite the Madarsaa teachers and children for lunch, dinner etc. or people deliver ready food at the Madarsaas. That is how the Madarsaas thrive and their number is increasing with passing years. But that is generating more competition among different Madarsaas and they have to work more aggressively to sustain themselves. There is one another aspect of the day to day life in Madarsaas. Generally, the teachers and managers have different kind of food as compared to the children (students). Obviously, the food served to the children is of inferior quality. That is one reason why the children are quite elated, if they are invited for lunch or dinner by some household. There the food is generally better as compared to what they get in the Madarsaas on regular basis. One last aspect related to the day to day life of the Maulanaas and

Moulvis. No doubt they are called Imaams when they lead the prayers in the mosques. But they are rarely respected as true Imaams. Imaam literally means leader. Most people consider them as inferiors. In most of the mosques they live in the mosques. There are no separate arrangements in the mosques or outside for them. Also, in most of the mosques they do not get any regular salary. They have to raise funds for themselves by moving around in the locality from house to house every month. At times people tell them to visit again after few days on some pretext or the other. They have no right to argue. They have to accept whatever is given (or not given). In certain societies there is a tradition of providing them daily food by the households of the locality, especially if they live alone i.e. without family. But the food is generally not delivered to them at their places (mosques). The Imaams have to visit the households to eat or to fetch their food. Again, it is more like begging than being treated as the leaders of the society. We do pray behind them. But we treat them more like beggars. I do not want to expand the issue further although there is sufficient scope. My purpose is to attract the attention of the Muslim community towards the plight of the Maulanaas and Moulvis in our society. If under these circumstances they try to behave irresponsibly, we too have to consider ourselves responsible for their behaviour and attitude. In Bihar and at some other places if they can grab some posts, naturally they will go to any extent to get those positions. Also, they will remain obliged and indebted to the systems which can provide them such opportunities. Some Maulanaas and Moulvis also try to earn in some other way. For example, few years back a TV Channel did a sting operation with hidden cameras in UP. Illogical Fatwaas were obtained from some of the Maulanaas and Moulvis on payment basis. They were quite happy to give those Fatwaas, as shown by the TV channel. The story was broadcast on national level again and again. Obviously, the entire episode was highly embarrassing for the entire Muslim community. But the question remains the same. No doubt our Maulanaas and Moulvis are responsible for what they do. But is the community also not equally responsible for the irrational behaviour of the Maulanaas and Moulvis? I would like to close this matter with a real life incident. A friend of mine, who is the CEO of a State Wakf Board, once told me that his driver told him about a person who was an Imaam in a mosque appointed by the Wakf Board. That day the Imaam was very happy and he distributed sweets as he could get appointment as a peon in the same Wakf Board. Reason was obvious. The Imaams were paid only few hundred rupees as salary by the Wakf Board, while the peon was entitled to handsome salary as per Govt. rules. Also, the peon was entitled to other benefits which the Imaams were denied, even if they were appointed by the Wakf Board. That was the case with an Imaam who was getting some salary from the Wakf Board. How about the other Imaams who are not paid anything on regular basis by the Wakf Boards or any other organization? We need to consider their plight and find ways to improve their conditions. Only then we can expect that they will behave like real Maulanaas and Moulvis. *********

7 Destructive Habits of Incompetent People

by Michael Lee

1 - They Think, Say, & Do Negative Things.

Yup. They see problems in every opportunity. They complain that the sun is too hot. They cursed the rain for ruining their plans for the day. They blame the wind for ruining their hair. They think that everyone is against them. They see the problems but never the solutions. Every little bit of difficulty is exaggerated to the point of tragedy. They regard failures as catastrophes. They become discouraged easily instead of learning from their mistakes. They never seem to move forward because they're always afraid to come out of their comfort zones.

they're too negative to accomplish anything.

6 - They Waste Their Time

They don't know what to do next. They may just be contented on eating, getting drunk, watching TV, or worse, staring at the blank wall with no thoughts whatsoever to improve their lives. It's perfectly fine to enjoy once in a while. But time should be managed efficiently in order to succeed. There should be a proper balance between work & pleasure.

2 - They Act Before They Think.

They move based on instinst or impulse. If they see something they like, they buy at once without any second thought. Then they see something better. They regret & curse for not able to take advantage of the bargain. Then they spend & spend again until nothing's left. They don't think about the future. What they're after is the pleasure they will experience at present. They don't think about the consequenses. Those who engage in unsafe sex, criminality, and the like are included in this group.

7 - They Take the Easy Way Out

If there are two roads to choose from, incompetent people would choose the wider road with less rewards than the narrower road with much better rewards at the end. They don't want any suffering or hardship. They want a good life. What these people don't know is that what you reap is what you sow. Efforts & action will not go unnoticed. If only they would be willing to sacrifice a little, they would be much better off. Successful people made it through trials & error. They never give up. They are willing to do everything necessary to achieve what they aspire for in life. With Best Regards, V Chacko Jacob Posted 23rd July 2012 by Govind Sharma

3 - They Talk Much More Than They Listen

They want to be the star of the show. So they always engage in talks that would make them heroes, even to the point of lying. Oftentimes they are not aware that what they're saying is not sensible anymore. When other people advise them, they close their ears because they're too proud to admit their mistakes. In their mind they're always correct. They reject suggestions because that will make them feel inferior.

4 - They Give Up Easily

Successful people treat failures as stepping stones to success. Incompetent ones call it quits upon recognizing the first signs of failure. At first, they may be excited to start an endeavor. But then they lose interest fairly quickly, especially when they encounter errors. Then they go & search for a new one. Same story & same results. Incompetent people don't have the persistence to go on and fulfill their dreams.

5 - They Try to Bring Others Down To Their Level

Incompetent people envy other successful individuals. Instead of working hard to be like them, these incompetent ones spread rumors and try every dirty trick to bring them down. They could've asked these successful ones nicely. But no, they're too proud. They don't want to ask advise. Moreover,

"Save yourself from Hellfire even by giving half a datefruit in charity." [Bukhari 2/498] 6) Narrated Abu Huraira(RA): The Prophet(pbh) said, "Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." open letter to
Dr Javed Jamil Honble Minister Mr Khan For last several years, I have been raising the issue of Muslims not doing any pre-budget or post-budget assessments. This was also one of my major points in Muslim Vision of Secular India: Destination & Roadmap. Fortunately, this year several efforts have been made in this direction. But what is still seen is that most experts are just interested in knowing what are the allocations to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Minority Commission, Waqf Board, Maulana Azad Foundation and AMU and Jamia Millia. We forget that Muslims are 15 pc of the population, and as such deserve to be the direct or indirect beneficiary of 15 pc of the national economy in all parameters including Budget provisions. What we forget is that Muslim masses can benefit only a little from various allocations listed above and will benefit or lose more depending on the general direction of the budget. It is really unfortunate that most governments do cater only to the demands of the corporates in the first 3 budgets and take certain measures for the masses only when the elections approach. There is never a discussion in the budget on the state of economic disparity. I have never heard any Finance Minister telling g the level of economic disparity in the ginnis. They are hugely concerned about the fiscal deficit but there is no concern at all about the present economic disparity and expected economic disparity in the coming financial year. Fiscal deficit is discussed because the pressure of corporate groups is to keep it minimal, as more fiscal deficit means more pressure o0n the rich. Economic disparity level measurements will on the other hand put pressure on the government to take more pro-poor measures. Muslims, and all those who are interested in the alleviation of poverty, must ensure that the main focus remained on Economic Disparity, and must insist that the Finance ministry tell the people the current and expected level of economic disparity in the country. There is also a need to categorize economic disparity into region to region, state to state and community to community disparity. If just this one index is made the main topic of the talk, a sea change will be seen in the direction of the budget. As I have pointed out in my approach paper also, the overwhelming percentage of the total revenues collected by states and centre comes directly from the masses (Sales Tax being the major source) and wealth tax forms almost a negligible proportion of the total revenues. Other so called direct taxes including corporate tax are also transferred to the consumers in one way or the other. A change in the tax policy with more collection from wealth and corporate taxes and less from sales tax will put a stop on inflation. As far as Muslims are concerned, everyone knows that the allocations made to the Muslim ministries and organizations is too little to produce any visible impact. As the Budget is yet to be passed, I will appeal to the Minority Bakhabar Minister to press for (1) Allocation of at least 20 pc of the funds allocated to NGOs in different ministries, i n c l u d i n g We l f a r e , labour, women and child, health & Family We l f a r e m i n i s t r i e s . More than 1000 crores from these ministries are allocated to NGOs, which means that Muslims NGOs must get at least 200 crores. (To monitor these projects, as well as other schemes, Ministry of Minority Affairs can appoint a mother NGO). There are funds available for health, family welfare, labourers education, de-addiction, women education etc, but Muslims do not even get 1 pc of this corpus. (2) There must be special provisions for ensuring that Muslim villages and localities are cleaned and beautified and get proper road connectivity and electricity. There may be special provisions in the budget to ensure this. (3) There is a strong need of beautification of important religious centres and cities like Ajmer, Kalyar, Deoband, etc. Special budgetary allocations should be made for the maintenance of all such centres; (4) There is a need to open Community Centres in all Muslim majority cities. This can be done under PPP schemes with Government providing the land and the community contributing in the funds required for construction; These are only some of the steps that can be immediately pushed. Next year, we can plan afresh. I also appeal to you that come what may, the budgetary allocations to your ministry must not lapse. Best Regards

Wastage of Food. We will be made Accountable

M. A. Haque
Sometime back a BA Member had circulated a video clip which related to some Gulf country, obviously a Muslim nation. The rulers of the State and few more people were in the desert to have a party. If I remember correctly, the total number of persons present there were not more than fifty. But huge quantity of food was prepared in large sized vessels by the workers. People consumed only a small portion and the rest were thrown on the desert sand. After meal different types of fruits were served, again in large quantity. Only part was consumed. The rest was thrown on desert sand. The video depicted that everyone was very happy about the whole episode. Probably, they were happy that Allah has given them enough wealth that they can throw so much food on the desert sand. In the Arab and other rich Muslim countries it is quite common to waste food and other materials. I remember one incidence from Iraq. We were there during 1980s. The Iraq-Iran war was going on. Basrah, the only sea port was not functioning. As a result, there used to be shortage of different items, including food materials on regular basis. Articles were imported by the Govt. through Jordan, Turkey and Kuwait etc. Occasionally, people had to struggle to purchase their requirements. We were privileged as we were with the University. We used to get our requirements on preferential basis. But we were quite pained to see that people in the neighbourhood and also otherwise used to waste food on day to day basis. They used to cook much more than their requirements. More important was that every household had refrigerator/s and also deep freezer. But they never retained the leftover food materials for later consumption. They used the refrigerator/s and also deep freezer only for storing meat, poultry, raw vegetables etc. Whatever food was left after meals, the same was thrown out day after day. We used to feel bad. Once I told to one of my neighbours about the wastage. I was shocked when the lady told me that they were not bothered about the wastages. They had enough money to buy anything. More shocking was her next sentence. She told that we were concerned about the wastage as we were from a poor country i.e. India. She was quite sarcastic. Obviously, I had no option but to keep silent. After few years when Iraq was attacked by USA, the entire country was devastated. People had to practically beg for a morsel. Even water was not available in most places and people had to consume dirty water. Various reports published from time to time brought out the plight of Iraqis. Millions of children died on account of malnutrition, infections and food shortages. When the reports were shown on TV, we were reminded of our stay there and we used to discuss how they used to waste food when they were provided enough by Allah. Allah did show them how He could punish them for their various mistakes, including wastage of the resources provided by Him. During 2007-2008 when I was in Afghanistan, I experienced a similar situation. Afghanistan is undergoing strife for several decades. The country is totally dependent on foreign aid for survival. The population is sharply divided in two categories. A very small part of the population is very rich, while the rest (about 99%) is extremely poor. We used to see hundreds of women and children begging on the roads and even sift through garbage dumps for some eatables. But the tragedy was that the rich used to waste food and other resources unconcerned of the overall shortages. During marriages, celebrations, festivals huge quantities of food were wasted. People used to prepare much more than required. The remaining materials were thrown out. Also, I found that people had the bad habit of filling their plates to full capacity. In most cases half or even more was put in the waste bins as it was not possible to consume all. Once I had occasion to discuss the issue with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Afghanistan whom I knew well and the Head of the Tableegh in Afghanistan. I requested them to take up the issue and propagate the concept of conservation among the masses, especially the rich section of the country. I am not sure if they could do something in that regard. In India too we find that huge quantities of food are wasted, especially during celebrations like marriage, aqeeqa, birthday celebration etc. Even in our daily life we are not careful enough and we allow wastage of food. We need to remember that vary large numbers of people in different countries, including our own, remain without adequate food and nutrition on account of non-availability and poverty. We need to consider their plight and conserve the food. Our effort should be to

pass on what is extra to those who are not privileged like us. We consider ourselves Muslims. There are clear instructions from Allah in this regard. Allah directs that we should not eat up our wealth in vanity i.e. to show our importance or in pride. O ye who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be trade amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you. [Quran: 4/29] As far as wastage is concerned, it is not at all liked by Allah. O you who believe! Make not unlawful the Tayyibat (all that is good as regards food, things, deeds, beliefs, persons) which Allah has made lawful to you, and transgress not. Verily, Allah does not like the transgressors. [Quran: 5/87] About wastage, Allah directs time and again that He does not love those who waste any resource. Obviously, that will include food and all other resources. And it is He Who produces gardens trellised and un-trellised, and datepalms, and crops of different shapes and taste (their fruits and seeds) and olives, and pomegranates, similar (in kind) and different (in taste). Eat of their fruit when they ripen, but pay the due thereof (its Zakat) on the day of its harvest, and waste not by extravagance. Verily, He likes not those who waste by extravagance. [Quran: 6/141] Allah is kind enough to permit us that we can eat and drink as per our needs. But we have no right to waste. Allah does not like those who indulge in wastages.

Impending Threat by Corporate Sector, Middle Class and Communalism to Our Political System
V.K. Tripathi, IIT Delhi Ever since UPA II assumed power, corporate sector and middle classes are on the offensive against the government. The media owned by the former is aggressively pursuing this design, and the ideological organization of these classes, the RSS (with all its wings) is waging a viscous countrywide communal campaign. It is not only the Congress and its allies that are under threat, the entire political system is in danger. cheap) are Bangladeshis in their eyes. This is a blatant attack on the citizenship and dignity of the countrymen, on the roots of the nation. But TV channels ignored to unearth this massive drive. In fact sections of print media became a party to this drive. The impact of this drive and similar other moves on the middle classes has been so deep that they started projecting Narendra Modi as the prospective prime minister. Modi has two distinctions: one, he taught tough lessons to Muslims, by letting the genocide go on uninterrupted for three days, and two, he has reduced the status of MLAs and Ministers to zero. Corporate sector directly gets its work done by him and the entire secretariat is ready to serve them.

Corruption, Blackmoney and Lokpal Movements

The industrialists, businessmen and corporate sector already have legal rights to misappropriate the labor surplus of the farmers and workers and to squeeze the national resources to amass sky high profit. Over and above this, they have the tools of hoarding, black marketing and bribery to reinforce it further. Two years ago, in order to bend the government to its knees, they raised the bogey of corruption, black money and Jan Lokpal bill. Media over night lifted Anna Hazare, and later Ramdev and Kejriwal, to the sky. However, no finger was raised on these classes, the real source of these evils. The assertive elements of institutes like IIT (who had carried Ramshila poojan on their premises in 1989 and in whose veins runs deep rooted hatred for Gandhi), the shopkeepers, builders, officers and other sectarian elements turned behind them. In the 2000 billion rupees 2G spectrum scam, D.Raja and others were already under prosecution on the charge of taking bribe of Rs. 2 billion, i.e., 0.1% of the value of scam. This issue was raised with great vigor and the face of the e n t i r e government was blackened but no finger was raised on those who cornered 99.9% profit.

The Mighty Thrust of Capital

The thrust of capital (market forces) on the political system is most severe. In 1991, the crisis of payment, the thrust of domestic and international capital and the breaking up of the Soviet Union led to the era of globalization and liberalization. Some progressive organizations opposed it but their base was limited. Computer revolution and outsourcing of work broadened the size of the middle classes. Internet and mobile phone led to information and communication revolution. The tsunami of market driven economy turned polity in its favor. The Congress might have begun the new economic policy but in a way all political parties towed the same line. Economic activities spread, industrial production grew, Metro, flyovers, multilane highways, and the numbers of cars, motorbikes grew phenomenally. The spread of computer in railways, banks, tehsil and all areas of production, marketing and administration and the outsourcing of work from developed countries led to rapid rise in the number of engineering colleges. In early nineties the intake in B.Tech was below 1.5 lakh, in 2011 it reached close to 8 lakh (mostly in the form of private engineering colleges). The seats in management colleges also grew manifold. With this glamour of development also grew the inequality rapidly. The government withdrew from education and health and these became very expensive. The worst fall out was on land and housing sector which came under the control of builders, corporate sector and industrialists. 40 to 50% people in big cities are seeking shelter in slums or slum like localities. In the countryside, low holding farmers are losing their lands to neo rich from developed areas and corporate sector. The contractor system in services has greatly increased the gap between the salaries of contractual and regular employees. Workers in private sector companies and in the unorganized sector have no job security and no pension plans. 75% of the people are outside the main stream of education and development. The pressure of market forces on the political system is so intense that in the name of development it is busy being primarily a facilitator of these classes. The political organizations that have emerged through the struggles on the issues of the masses Congress, Communists, Socialist, Bahujan Samaj, and regional parties are still in touch with the masses. Their heritage has some influence on their policies. They may have traders, industrialists and criminal minded people with them but have a larger number of those who understand the problems of the people and stand with them against the oppression by the police and administration. However, the roots of all these parties are shaking.

Massive Commun al Drive

In July 2012, violence took place between the Bodos and Muslims in Bodoland (comprising Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baxa and Udalguri districts of Assam). One hundred people were killed and 4 lakhs rendered refugees. Eighty percent of those killed and displaced were Muslims. It was a grave tragedy as Bodos are poor and Muslims are even poorer. Both are Indian citizens, our own people. However, Lal Krishna Advani, with a view to propagate hatred, said that this was not the conflict between Hindus and Muslims but between Indians and Bangladeshis. Soon Togadia reached there and spread the venom, Do not let these Bangladeshis (the displaced victims) return back. VHP, RSS, BJP and other organizations indulged in massive country wide propaganda that there were crores of Bangladeshis in the country. Assam in its 3.2 crore population has 31% (1 crore) Muslims of which doubtful cases, according to the recent white paper issued by the state government, are less than 1% of Muslim population. West Bengal has around 2.5 crore Muslims. All these people, and the Bangla speaking Muslim laborers from these states who have gone to different parts of the country due to sheer poverty (and survive by selling their labor for

Revitalizing the Political System

The main task of polity and democratic institutions is to contain the ill effects of market driven economy, to save villages from degeneration, to save the farmers from exploitation by the traders, to check the misappropriation of lands by builders and corporate sector, to provide technical education up to the level of self reliance for everyone, to

Impending Threat by Corporate Sector, Middle Class and Communalism to Our Political System
implement minimum wages and provide job security and pension plan for workers of unorganized sector, to restrain media from being an aggressive tool of the elite and orient it towards objectivity and people. Only people centric polity, through the awakening of the masses, can put a check on the dictates of the capital. The political parties and social activists who want to save the political system from the onslaught of the capital and keep it alive, must ponder on the following issues. they are 40-45, their bones become stiff or they develop lung related problems and are not able to do hard work. They do not work for a fixed contractor. For them job cards may be issued. Each year a card will have the record of how many days the person has worked with which contractors, signed by the contractors and counter signed by government official. Once the person has accumulated 4000 man days on the card he/ she must be entitled for the pension to be paid by the forest/ mining department. For this sum these departments may levy a surcharge on the contractors at the time of giving them the lease.

Devolution of Power among all the Members of Democratic Institutions

Democratic institutions, from Gram Panchayat to Parliament, have large number of members. Gram Panchayat, for instance, has 11 members but the power lies solely with the Pradhan (Sarpanch). The entire money that the village gets from the government (to the tune of one crore rupees per year for MNREGA, housing, roads etc.) is spent through the pradhan and government officials. This gives scope for manipulation and fierce political rivalries. It will be better served if the power is divested in all the 11 members who are a better representative of different communities in the village. Following the model of Gram Swaraj that the Gandhians in Sri Lanka are developing, one may form five or seven committees in the Panchayat, e.g., education committee (looking after schooling in the village as well as when children go to cities), senior citizens committee, housing and construction committee, MNREGA committee, health committee etc., each one with separate budget and full power. The members must be paid salaries too for their involvement. In Assemblies, Chief Minister should not be all powerful like Gujarat where MLAs and ministers have no voice. An MLA, with wide contacts in his/ her constituency must raise peoples issues in the Assembly. He/ she must have responsibility in the execution of schemes at the local and state level. Same should be the role of MPs.

Monitoring Hoarding, Corruption and Misuse of Power

Every political party should form monitoring units that would oversee hoarding, black marketing and corruption by traders and misuse of power by the officers.

Orienting Media towards Objectivity and People

CNN owner once remarked that news is a bigger weapon than a bomb. I did not realize the value of this statement then, but looking at the media role in recent years I am convinced and alarmed. Serious efforts must be put to restrain media from sensationalizing news and offensiveness. They should not act as instruments of corporate interests, rather be objective and people-centric. Gandhis Hind Swaraj would be a good guide line for journalists.

Countering Sectarian Propaganda and Liberating Shrines

Sectarianism is counter to democracy. It is not only a menace to minorities, but to the majority too. In its garb, criminals, musclemen and feudal lords enhance their stature and authority, sectarian and vested interests control religious shrines, businessmen gain prominence, peoples unity is broken and exploitation accentuates. Hatred also cripples the atmbal of the people. It must be resisted resolutely at all levels. The ongoing propaganda against Bangla speaking Muslim countrymen must be countered. A campaign must run to liberate religious shrines of sectarian influence and stop their misuse as centers of capitalist interests and sectarianism.

Saving the Land from Corporate and Builders Control

A mighty task is to stop the growing control of businessmen, builders and affluent elite on lands. Every political party must explore ways and have a policy on it. The appropriation of lands in villages by urban elite must also stop. For this the consent of 75% people of the village for land acquisition has been propagated. However, personal sale of land to outside elite out of personal financial compulsions is also a matter of serious concern and must be looked into.

The Facade of Modis Development Planck

Corporate and media are aggressively creating a Modi cult. Modi is their hero because he can shut his opponents and meek masses, be they minorities or Nirma displaced farmers or other sections. After making him iron man they are projecting him as a man of development. Where ever business classes live the GDP growth of that area is always higher than elsewhere. For the last one hundred years, Gujarat has been having higher share of business and industry than the rest of India, hence the higher GDP growth rate. In last ten years its GDP growth rate has increased very marginally, from 7.2% to 7.8%. During the same period, Bihar GDP growth rate has increased from 2.5% to 7%. Maharashtra is a much bigger state than Gujarat but its GDP growth rate of 7.2% in not far from that of Gujarat. Under the Congress CMs Madhav Singh Solanki and Amar Singh Chaudhry, Gujarat GDP growth rate was higher than today. A much better measure of growth is the per capita GDP growth of the lower 75% of the people. On that scale as well as in human development index Gujarat legs behind several states. It is no credit for a person of national dimension to derive pleasure in concentrating industry and business in certain states or employing one lakh child labor from Dungarpur (Rajasthan) to Banaskantha (Gujarat) every year for bit cotton farming.

Survival of the Villages

MNREGA and Loan waiver programs have been helpful. But the village will not gain strength unless capital formation takes place there. MNREGA should be linked to that. Land, forests and other resources of the village must be saved through the uplift of consciousness, authority of the Panchayat and appropriate legislation. Ill effects of mandi (food grain markets) are countered only marginally by the procurement prices announced by the states as the procurement by the government is too much delayed. Procurement prices themselves are too low. The farmers cooperatives must have direct access to markets.

Pension Scheme for the Unorganized Sector

The workers in the unorganized sector are severely afflicted by low wages, job insecurity, health hazards and unavailability of pension plans. For the ones engaged with contractors, pension can be given by placing a surcharge on the contractors. For instance tens of thousands of workers in Lalitpur district of UP are engaged in granite and dust stone work. The government gains crores of rupees per year through leasing the quarries. These workers begin at the age of 18. By the time

Bihar Anjumans chapter formed in holy city of Makkah Mokarrama

By the grace of Allah swt, Alhamdolillah, on the initiative of brother Aijaz Haque Sb, founder of Jeddah chapter, a meeting convened for the purpose of forming this chapter (or reviving it afresh) started just after Jumas prayers, as scheduled, on the 15th March 2013. In its very first meeting, about fifteen brothers from Bihar and Jharkhand were present; three others called up to mark their attendance with a promise to be physically present in the next meeting in sha Allah. Brother Aijaz Haque Sb presented a brief introduction and objectives of Bihar Anjuman. Thereafter, all the attendees introduced themselves; they all promised to convey the message to all of their relatives and friends in and around the holy city. It is believed that in the 2nd meeting, members will increase automatically as advised by present persons; they promised to visit website www.biharanjuman.org and try to attach with all brothers who belong to BIHAR & JHARKHAND. In a very positive turn of events, in the 1st meeting itself, all the members proposed / suggested, and selected Brother MASUD KHAN, as Convenor of the chapter. Brother Masud Khan is a very well-known social worker in the holy city who has served the people alone, as well as with his team the beneficiaries include known and unknown hujjaj-e-karaam as Lillah service. By the way, he was not present in the meeting, because his relative got admitted in Jeddah Alfaqih hospital. He had to rush to Jeddah in urgency. Brother Aijaz Haque Sb personally talked with him; he has Alhamdolillah accepted the Bakhabar proposal of the attendees of 1st meeting. Br Masud Khan sb is going on vacation on 21-March-2013 and he will come back after 40 days; he promised that he will try his best for BA Holy Chapter in Makkah (In sha Allah). Br. Wastage of Food. We will be made Accountable

Children of Adam! Take your adornment (by wearing your clean clothes), while praying (and doing Tawaf) and eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allah) likes not those who waste by extravagance. [Quran: 7/31] Some people may argue (due to ignorance or their foolhardiness) that it is their wealth and they have the right to spend it as they like. But Allah makes it clear that we have no right to fritter away our wealth. We must spend the same with wisdom. And give to the kinsmen his due and to Miskin (needy) and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. [Quran: 17/26] Obviously, we will be answerable to Allah for all our deeds. When we waste the resources provided by Him, He will take due account of the same on the Day of Judgment. We will certainly suffer in the next life for the wrongs done in our present life. But we may suffer in this world as well. There have been innumerable examples in history of those who transgressed and suffered in this world. Examples of Pharaoh, Qarun are well known. We should be very careful. ************

Culprits of Blast Prosecuted, Culprits of Riot Promoted

By Syed Zubair Ahmad, Victims of Mumbai riot 1993: Though very late yet welcoming Supreme Court verdict in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case must relieve the families who lost their dear ones. But the verdict has also relived the pain of those families whose dear ones were killed by rioters and Police during the two-month long bloody riots that preceded the serial blasts in the commercial capital of India. The riot victims ask: When the government rightly pursued, prosecuted and ultimately punished the bombers, why it let free the rioters, rather promoted many indicted police officers and politicians? Is killing with bomb more painful than killing with trishul and bullets? The apex court has confirmed the death penalty for Yakub Memon, one of the accused of the serial blasts. Besides commuting the death sentence of 10 other convicts, the court awarded life terms to 22 others accused in the case under various provisions of TADA, IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act and Explosives Act, while sentencing several others to varying jail terms ranging from one year to 10 years. The Muslims and everyone must welcome and respect the verdict of the apex court on the Mumbai serial blasts of March 1993 in which nearly 257 people were killed,713 injured and properties worth Rs 27 crore were damaged. But what about the Mumbai riots victims of December 1992 and January 1993 in which more than 900 Muslims were killed and properties worth more than Rs 10000 crore were damaged by Hindu rioters and police? Not only have the riot victims failed to get the justice so far, but shamefully a whole lot of police officers who were indicted by Sri Krishna Commission kept on getting promotions in the last 20 years. Undoubtedly the Mumbai serial blasts were the reaction to the anti-Muslim riots that happened in a planned way soon after the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. The culprits of reaction were pursued to even foreign locations, brought to book and now ultimately have been punished but the culprits of action who are roaming freely in Mumbai localities were not touched, they are still at large. The police officers who not only failed to perform their duty but killed innocents even in mosques have been promoted and given bravery awards. The politicians who have been indicted by the Sri Krishna Commission now carry larger image. Even 20 years after the riots and 15 years after the submission of Sri Krishna Commission Report, the government has not taken a single step towards the implementation of the report. Sri Krishna Commission report which indicted politicians like cabinet minister Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra minister Chagan Bhujbal and senior Congress leader Narayan Rane etc has been thrown into dustbin. At least at this count, Narendra Modi should be lauded. Within 10 years of Gujarat pogrom 2002, many powerfuls have been sent to jail, Modis cabinet member Maya Kodnani has got historic conviction. But justice is still a distant dream for Mumbai riots victims in Congress ruled Maharashtra. Barring one or two communal riots Muslims did not get justice so far. The bomb blasts were masterminded by smugglers and criminals but its called terrorism while the genocide of Muslims was masterminded by politicians, police and administration but its called communal riots. Killing by bombs is terrorism but killing by trishul and bullets of police is called violence. The double standard of the government and system shows that the Muslims are the second class citizens of this country. The shameful fact shows that our democracy has become a sham

Jbir ibn Hayyn(Citric Acit, Nitric acid, sulfuric acid and Hydrochloric acid)
Citric acid Jbir ibn Hayyn is also credited with the discovery and isolation of citric acid, the sour component of lemons and other unripe fruits[5] Nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and hydrochloric acid: The mineral acids nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and hydrochloric acid were first isolated by Jbir ibn Hayyn. He originally referred to sulfuric acid as theoil of vitriol Jabir ibn Hayyan, who transformed alchemy into chemistry, inventing many of the basic processes and apparatus still in use today liquefaction, crystallisation, distillation, purification, oxidisation, evaporation and filtration. Sun is always vertical to a particular spot on Earth. It was 500 years before that realization dawned on Galileo. The calculations of Muslim astronomers were so accurate that in the 9th century they reckoned the Earths circumference to be 40, 253.4km less than 200km out. The scholar al-Idrisi took a globe depicting the world to the court of King Roger of Sicily in 1139.

Abbas ibn Firnas (Parachute)

A thousand years before the Wright brothers a Muslim poet, astronomer, musician and engineer named Abbas ibn Firnas made several attempts to construct a flying machine. In 852 he jumped from the minaret of the Grand Mosque in Cordoba using a loose cloak stiffened with wooden struts. He hoped to glide like a bird. He didnt. But the cloak slowed his fall, creating what is thought to be the first parachute, and leaving him with only minor injuries. In 875, aged 70, having perfected a machine of silk and eagles feathers he tried again, jumping from a mountain. He flew to a significant height and stayed aloft for ten minutes but crashed on landing concluding, correctly, that it was because he had not given his device a tail so it would stall on landing.

Ab Abd Allh Muammad (Trignometry)

Ab Abd Allh Muammad ibn Jbir ibn Sinn al-Raqq al-arrn al-bi al-Battn (Latinized as Albategnius, Albategni or Albatenius) (c. 858, Harran 929, Qasr al-Jiss, nearSamarra) was a Muslim astronomer, astrologer, and mathematician. He introduced a number of trigonometric relations, and his Kitb az-Zj was frequently quoted by many medieval astronomers, including Copernicus.

Hassan al-Rammah (Rocket and Torpedo):

By the 15th century Muslims had invented both a rocket, which they called a self-moving and combusting egg, and a torpedo a self-propelled pear-shaped bomb with a spear at the front which impaled itself in enemy ships and then blew up.

Ibn al-Haitham(Pin hole camera)

The first person to realise that light enters the eye, rather than leaving it, was the 10th-century Muslim mathematician, astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham. He invented the first pin-hole camera after noticing the way light came through a hole in window shutters. The smaller the hole, the better the picture, he worked out, and set up the first Camera Obscura (from the Arab word qamara for a dark or private room). He is also credited with being the first man to shift physics from a philosophical activity to an experimental one.

Azarchel (Astrolabe)
This all-in-one model, created by an astronomer known as Azarchel, lightened adventurers' loads. With it, globe-trotting Muslims could pray daily at the correct hours, facing Mecca, whether they were in Ibiza or Kazakhstan. Astrolabes ultimately led to the development of astronomical clocks. Vaccination : The technique of inoculation was not invented by Jenner and Pasteur but was devised in the Muslim world and brought to Europe from Turkey by the wife of the English ambassador to Istanbul in 1724. Children in Turkey were vaccinated with cowpox to fight the deadly smallpox at least 50 years before the West discovered it. Pay cheque: The modern cheque comes from the Arabic saqq, a written vow to pay for goods when they were delivered, to avoid money having to be transported across dangerous terrain. In the 9th century, a Muslim businessman could cash a cheque in China drawn on his bank in Baghdad. Many more hundreds of Inventions are done by Muslim scientist during Islamic golden age which was dark ages for Europe. al-Zahrawi (inventions in surgery)

Many modern surgical instruments are of exactly the same design as those devised in the 10th century by a Muslim surgeon called al-Zahrawi. His scalpels, bone saws, forceps, fine scissors for eye surgery and many of the 200 instruments he devised are recognisable to a modern surgeon. It was he who discovered that catgut used for internal stitches dissolves away naturally (a discovery he made when his monkey ate his lute strings) and that it can be also used to make medicine capsules. In the 13th century, another Muslim medic named Ibn Nafis described the circulation of the blood, 300 years before William Harvey discovered it. Muslims doctors also invented anaesthetics of opium and alcohol mixes and developed hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes in a technique still used today.

al-Idrisi (globe)
By the 9th century, many Muslim scholars took it for granted that the Earth was a sphere. The proof, said astronomer Ibn Hazm, is that the Bakhabar
