Practical Business Flow of EnMS

Complicated
But it contains all of the EnMS operational elements

Practical Business Flow of EnMS Simplified

Why EnMS Charter ?

ISO 50001
Sub-clause 4.1 General requirements Asks for establish, document, implement, maintain and improve an EnMS in accordance with the requirements of ISO 50001

However, the most important thing that a organisation should recognise is unless you properly manage the energy that is essential to conduct your business, you face a big hurdle to sustain your own business in the 21st century.

EnMS Charter is
The highest level EnMS document to establish, implement document, maintain and improve EnMS, and to define guideline and provisions in setting up a proper path for continual energy performance improvement for the people of organisation in conducting EnMS operation where they can voluntary establish their plan, implement and document enabling them to judge and evaluate energy performance.
7

What is EnMS Charter ?

It is to manage invisible living creatures called energy by establishing a system that takes you to a rolling cycle of plan-implement-evaluate-take further improvement action
P D C A

so that the living creatures perform with proper behavior and

amount .

And for the objectives of achieving energy performance

improvement targets, it is a document defining guideline and provisions to lead the people of organisation to possess competent sense of judgment with improvement orientation in aggressively pursuing the best performance practice.
8

Must not in EnMS Charter

Energy management experts role is to orchestrate full participation EnMS, not to run the EnMS on behalf of the organisation.

Including the top management, energy management operation is to have the participation of the entire people of the organisation. EnMS Charter must not step away from people in general, and only used by energy management experts in the organisation. EnMS Charter must not be handled only by a closed circuit of energy management expert, and the top management

involvement is at the time of approval.

9

EnMS Charter Objective

EnMS Objectives
The objective of establishing, document, and implementing EnMS with the ISO 50001 requirements as a baseline is for the company to continually improve its energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption. Implementation of proper and aggressive EnMS operation should lead the company to reducing energy cost, greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts. Additionally, an effective operation of EnMS will enhance the management skill of people which is in line with the companys sustainable business development.

Purpose of the EnMS Charter Document

he EnMS Charter in this document covers the EnMS related guideline and provisions that shall be followed throughout the entire operation of EnMS. This document addresses the people of the organisation to pursue the optimum energy performance and to appreciate how business can benefits from the process of the system. Additionally, this document is to serve as a practical management tool for the EnMS to ensure achievement of its objectives. Contents of all EnMS documents have to be coherent to the contents of this document throughout the operation of EnMS

Clause 4. EnMS requirements 4.6. Checking (Performance)

4.6.2 Evaluation of compliance with legal requirements and other requirements

EnMS is to stay alert and at planned interval evaluate compliance with legal and other requirements to which EnMS subscribes that are relevant to its energy uses.
The updates and results of evaluation can be consolidated as records in a document containing following information:
a) List of legal and other requirements to which it subscribes that are relevant to its energy uses

b) Summary or highlight description of evaluation items for compliance

c) Compliance status d) Recommended action e) Additional remarks if necessary

Recorded information can be presented during management review to serve EnMS purpose.

EnMS audit is to be conducted as part of organisations audit programme.

Define the EnMS audit:
a) Objective b) Scope c) Responsibility d) Procedure

Reference ISO19011:2002 Guidance on the Principles of Auditing in conducting EnMS audit.

EnMS audit is encouraged to conduct in accordance with voluntary documented EnMS audit plan. (*1) Audit examines : EnMS conforms to energy objectives and targets established EnMS is properly implemented and (*1) ISO 50001 does not require audit energy performance improved plan and report per se, however they are highly recommended for efficient Record of audit result shall be and effective audit activities. reported to top management.

EnMS Continual Improvement Guideline (Problem Resolution management Guideline)

A guideline is useful to identify elements requiring improvement, and to define situations for preventive and corrective actions.

EnMS Continual Improvement Procedure

A document defining procedure is useful for the entire work force dealing with actual and potential nonconformity, and through corrective and preventive actions to identify opportunities from continual improvement practices.

EnMS Charter and ISO 50001 Summary

Why ISO 50001 EnMS is attractive?

(1) DATA Oriented Management System!!
Evaluation of energy PERFORMANCE can be measured and quantified by the DATA

(2) Managing with EnMS performances

EnMS performances are A + B of the following: A. Performance of EnMS itself : The standard management performance B. Energy Performance : The performance managed with data such as EnPI

EnMS Performance
Energy Performance Management Performance
ISO 9001 Generic ISO 14001

(3) Practicality

Regardless of the size and type of organisation, regardless of if you are subscribing to the national or local requirements, data and performance based management method can be properly blended into your operation.

Continual Improvement Process (PDCA)

EnMS Charter and ISO 50001 Summary

What is ISO 50001 Compliance

Establish guideline and provisions for EnMS operation following ISO 50001
Clause 4, Sub-clause 4.1 - 4.3

Operate business under the established EnMS following ISO 50001

Clause 4, Sub-clause 4.4 & 4.5

Verify if you operate business under established EnMS in conformance to ISO 50001 report the result of verification at Management review
Clause 4, Sub-clause 4.7 Clause 4, Sub-clause 4.6

Verification is done by actual result written in reports and records as evidences against written guidelines and provisions, procedures and plans Therefore, documentation is the most important aspect to consider when one seeks efficient operation of EnMS compatible to ISO 50001

Final notes
Once you appreciate our message that the EnMS Charter enhances efficiency of EnMS operation, and the document is invaluable for energy efficient improvement, we believe this presentation has served its purpose. With the tail wind generated by EnMS Charter, other major documents play key role to guide people of the organisation in the right direction to practice continual energy performance improvement.

With ISO 50001 class EnMS Charter, your EnMS operation is on a global scale at your own language.
