1. Season goals a. Have Fun: Team cheer - Here we go, Sammy, Here we go! Clap 2x b. Skill Development: Batting, Fielding, Throwing. c. Enhance relationships with peers and learn sportsmanship. d. Leadership development: Team captains follow snack schedule. They lead exercises, lead team cheers and bat first or last at one or more innings. Last batter hits a home run (clears the bases). 2. Skill Development a. Throwing: ball position, glove in direction of target, follow-through. b. Batting: bat position, level swing, eye on the ball. c. Catching: mitt position - limited hand strength to open and close gloves, move feet to scoop grounders, alligator hands. i. Practice at home, roll the ball on pavement, limit pop flies. d. Field rotation, see attached. 3. Practices a. Tuesdays 6 - 7 pm at Central Park. **Meet at 5 6 pm on March 1 & March 8 until daylight savings time** b. Parent and kids scrimmage game for fun on March 29. c. Remember to bring your childs glove! Label it with their name. d. Bring water for kids, chairs/blankets for parents. e. Parent participation f. Rain: I will email by 3 pm if practice is cancelled. I will try to reschedule practice for Wed or Thurs. Please practice at home. 4. Practice format a. Warm up exercises and Team talk, 5 minutes b. Skill demo: 10 minutes c. Three rotating stations: 40 minutes d. Review and Wrap up: 5 minutes 5. Games a. Games are one hour long, always on Saturday b. All kids bat and run bases. Score and outs not recorded. Pitching and force outs begin in Game #3. c. Expect about 2 innings per game.

d. Game attire: white or grey baseball pants or sweat pants, a long sleeve shirt under their team jersey (grey), team hat (red), and tennis shoes or rubber cleats. e. Games are March 12 May 7. Game schedule forthcoming from league. f. NO game on April 23. g. Remember to bring your childs glove! h. Game cancellation: Call the Sports Hotline to check for rainouts/cancellation. It will be updated by 8 am on Saturday morning of game day: 555-1234 (ext. 100). Games will be rescheduled for a later date during the week, or at the end of the season. 6. Parent Participation a. Always find positives and give encouragement. i. I like the way you throw the ball, it got half way to first base. ii. You run fast You sure hit the ball hard. b. Need parent assistance when batting (1st, 3rd base coaches, bench). c. Need 2 parents help when fielding (rotations). 7. Team activities, Volunteers needed a. Assistant coaches b. After-game snack sign up (see recommended snacks list). c. Team Banner - can be made or ordered locally. Team name, players names. d. Team benches - (4) 2-gallon buckets, (2) 2x6 boards, bolts. e. Suggest team fee of about $10 for banner and bench costs. 8. Events a. Photo Day - arrive at 8:15 am on March 5 (rain or shine). Photo time is 8:45 at Community Park or inside if raining. League fee includes an individual and team photo. Bring payment if you wish to order additional photos or extras like baseball cards. b. Opening Day March 12. c. NO game on April 23. d. Tailgate Party at Community Park, Sept 17. e. Team pizza party Pizza Place, Tuesday May 10, 5:00-6:30 pm (family night). Trophies will be handed out. 9. Miscellaneous a. Fees include baseball cap, uniform top, trophy, and photo. b. Write your childs name inside their hat and glove. c. Batting helmets are provided for practice and games; required. d. Snack schedule attached. Healthy snacks please, see samples attached. e. Remember Parents code of ethics (No profanity, smoking, alcohol, drugs).
