Vedran Jagodnik From my perspective: 1. Reliability 2. Ability to do different scenarios 3. User friendly.

Seda Kuday Numerical prgramlike Flac or even better : RocLab might be ok for prediction of Hoek-Brown"s failure criterion (so that you may actually have an idea of changing rock mass parameters) 2D analysis tools puts limits, especially since tunnels are under three-dimensional stress regimes : still, anything that estimatessoftening behaviour of material(modulus softening ratio) as the strata chances would do a good job, speaking from experience...

Jens-Erik Jepsen Try Plaxis or ABAQUS.Plaxis is user friendly, ABAQUS and ANSYS is not.FLAC is a FDM program with some limits that gives

Elina Apostolou Rocscience programs such as Unwedge, and Rocsupport are really useful for tunnel design in rock. Plaxis for FEM analysis also works for tunneling design. These programs are really user friendly. The reliability of the results depend solely on your modelling and input parameters. Also you can check this sum of tunneling design programs. http://geotechpedia.com/Home/Search?t=tunnel

Seda Kuday ...well, once again : because of 3D stress distribution @ tunnel faces, straightforward application of 2D numerical analysis to the design of tunnel support systems aint gonna cut it. Firstly : your own estimations/data accuracy is important I"d say: Secondly : a finite element program developed by Rocscience or other 2D program such as Flac can be used. You may like to read the book called "The Tunnel" = referring to The Channel Tunnel / Bechtel was in design stage I assume : its a good reference if you are interested!

Group Statistics Rajendra Prasad singh chauhan selection of design depends on the medium through which it is driven.Geotechnical parameters etc.Any system is ok when medium is ok all the systems point on site judgements for design decisions.
