Nonparametric Frontier Analysis: Recent Theoretical Developments and Applications
Thursday, April 4, ROOM: 0321, 10:00 13:00

INVITED SPEAKERS:
Lopold SIMAR, Emeritus Professor of Institute of Statistics,
Biostatistics and Actuarial Sciences, Universit Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. Methodological Advances and Perspectives in Nonparametric Frontier Analysis Cinzia DARAIO, Associate Professor at Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering Antonio Ruberti, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. Scale and scope using directional distances with an application on European universities data

Lopold Simar is Emeritus Professor of Institute of Statistics, Biostatistics and Actuarial Sciences, Universit Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), which he had founded in 1992, and chaired from its creation until 2004. During this period, the Institute became recognized as a leading center for research in mathematical statistics. Professor Lopold Simar has worked on a variety of topics in statistics, including count-data models, Bayesian estimation and inference, frontier estimation, and has authored about 100 articles in statistics and econometrics, efficiency and productivity analysis in top refereed scientific journals. He is regarded as one of the worlds leading experts on frontier estimation, renowned for introducing and developing bootstrap method in nonparametric frontier estimation; his work in this area has found application in a broad variety of fields, including efficiency studies in industry, air traffic control, the research output of universities, insurance companies, banking.

Cinzia Daraio is Associate Professor of Management Engineering at the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering Antonio Ruberti, University of Rome La Sapienza (Italy). Her main research interests include: efficiency and productivity analysis, economics of education, economics of science and technology, bibliometrics, applied statistics/ econometrics, industrial organization. She authored a monograph on Advanced Robust and Nonparametric Methods in Efficiency Analysis. Methodology and Applications, with L. Simar, published by Springer (NY) in 2007, and edited a collective book on Universities and Strategic Knowledge Creation: Specialization and Performance in Europe, with A. Bonaccorsi, published by Edward Elgar (Cheltenham) in 2007. She published several works in international peer- reviewed journals including Journal of Productivity Analysis, European Journal of Operational Research, Annals of Operations Research, Research Policy, Research Evaluation, Scientometrics, Science and Public Policy, Minerva, Cambridge Journal of Economics, and Applied Economics among others.
