Modern gastronomy is an exciting market, full of variety, which places high demands on the durability of products and their suitability for everyday use, while at the same time offering room for creative design. GO IN has been committed to promoting fresh talent since 2008 and offers up-and-coming designers a professional platform every two years. After the success of the first rounds of the competition, the company will in future be initiating the Student Design Award in all European countries and is looking for the most innovative concepts. The drafts of the finalists will be checked for their feasibility while of course protecting the copyright of the young designers. Trainee designers and young designers practicing the profession up to their second year can show off their talent during the competition with imaginative suggestions. The submitted works will be judged by a highly qualified jury.

The Coat Rack in a Gastronomy Environment

First impressions count especially when guests enter a restaurant. Right next to the entrance, however, there often tends to be a pile of coats, jackets, hats and umbrellas, because this is usually where the coat rack is situated. It makes sense too, because the guests dont want to walk through the restaurant in wet jackets. They want to take them off and be assured that they are kept safely. So what could the ideal coat rack look like in a restaurant? It has to satisfy practical demands and have a visually appealing design. It could even be situated in the dining area without disturbing anyone. Unlike existing coat rack systems for private use, though, it has to be able to handle plenty of wear and tear. The gastronomy coat rack has to prove its stability even under extreme loads. What consequences do these requirements have on the product design? Into which environment can the product be integrated? How viable is the design idea and structural calculation of the coat rack? Is it modular or built in one piece? What materials are used? These questions have to be answered and transformed into a specific product. The use of innovative materials is desirable while taking into consideration low production costs. A combination with other possible benefits is conceivable.
