Report on the 2nd Annual International Fly Ash Utilization Summit, New Delhi 17-18th January A.

Jindal Steel and Power Limited Speaker- VR Sharma (Deputy MD) & Mr Venkateshwarlu POC for Fly Ash utilization in JSPL- Mr Sunil Tiwari JSPL is operating 2 Fly Ash Brick plants in India having tie-ups with the following two German companies: 1) Raigarh Plant- Frima Technolgy 300000 bricks / day, 550 T of Fly Ash/Day 2) Angul Plant- Hess group 180000 bricks / day, 400 T of Fly Ash / Day a. they use fly ash and pond ash in proportion 3) Raigarh Plant- Neptune technology 50000 bricks / days, 100 T of Fly Ash / Day 4) And they are in talk with MASA group to put another plant. 5) JPL is using bottom ash to do backfilling of Raigarh mine. 6) JSPL Angul is planning to put a light weight aggregate manufacturing plant using Fly Ash tie-up with a Chinese company. Recommendations 1) Coal washery should be used to wash coal before combustion to reduce the ash generation. This is extensively used in western countries, even though the ash content in their coal is much lesser as compared to Indian domestic coal. 2) Raigarh and Angul Power plants only use fly ash bricks for construction and pavements. Other TPPs should follow suite. 3) Reduction is customs duty for importing capital goods used for manufacturing of fly ash based products. B. LYTAG, China Speaker- Gareth Moores & Kallol Basu They manufacture light weight aggregates. Price= 17-18 Rs/Cu Feet May set up their first plant in Haryana in the next 6 months. C. ACC Cement Speaker- K N Rao %age of fly ash utilization in PPC is expected to increase from 23% in 2010 to 35% in 2050. ACC cement consumed 4 MT of Pond Ash from Ropar Thermal power plant in Punjab over 7-8 years. Recommendations to increase the use of Fly Ash by Cement manufacturers1) Subsided transport thru railways.

2) Prohibit use of OPC by Governments infrastructure use. 3) Improving the quality of fly ash by the Power Producer to improve its sale- an additive can be added to the boiler to improve the quality of fly ash. D. News Update 1) All red brick kilns were banned in NCR area but due to intervention by Govt of UP regarding nonavailability of fly ash bricks/alternative options to red bricks for construction use, they have been allowed to be operational again. E. Important point of Contacts: 1) Hess Group- Manoj Kumar (MD). Hess group has its presence in India since last 3 years and they currently are in talks with TATAs also to set up a Fly Ash utilization facility. 2) KJS Concrete- Col AK Dutt 3) ACC Cement- KN Rao 4) Sanghi Cement- has the same technology as ACC Cement to utilize pond ash as well as fly ash and use in manufacture of cement. F. Promising developments: 1) Col Dutt & Mr Manoj Kumar (Hess Group) will be visiting Mumbai during 1st week of Feb and are invited for a meeting with us. They seem interested to work with us. 2) KN Rao (ACC cement) will also present a proposal for consumption of Fly Ash from our Rosa / Dahanu / Butibori power plants and can also pass on contact information of other cement manufacturers who possess similar technology of utilizing Pond Ash.
