Formation Composition and Disposition


Army Headquarter
Apart from major formations that was mentioned in the main page, there are special army troops under the direct command of Army Headquarter. Most notably under this command are the Rapid Deployment Force ( Pasukan Atur-gerak Cepat - PAC), Special Forces Group ( Grup Gerak Khas - GGK) and the Malaysian Army Aviation ( Pasukan Udara Tentera Darat - PUTD). Other smaller units under the Army HQ are Air Support Signal Squadron (RSD-PU), Electronic Warfare Signals Squadron (RSD-PE), Strategic Communication Signals Squadron (RSD-PS) and the Territorial Army's specialist regiments. In addition, any new units being formed or not yet operational usually fall under this command except for air defense unit that will fall under MMTD.

Division Level Formations


A division is the second highest level of operational formation in the Malaysian Army. It has a strength of between 12-15 thousand personnel and usually commanded by a Major General. Each of the 4 divisions comprise of 2-3 brigades, a few artillery regiments and various division-level support units. All the artillery regiments of each division is under the command of a Division Artillery Headquarter ( Markas Artileri Divisyen). Each brigade comprises of 2-4 combat battalions, may include a couple of armored regiments, a couple of 500-series Territorial Army (reserve) regiments, and various brigadelevel support units. A brigade usually commanded by a Brigadier General. There are 4 Divisions in the Malaysian Army namely 1st Infantry Division taking care of Sabah and Sarawak, 2nd Infantry Division defending the northern region of the Peninsular of Malaysia, 3rd Combined Arms Division at the southern region and 4th Infantry Division entrusted with the capital city and surrounding central region.
