Narrative Essay

Patience Has Its Limits

My name is Gerald Andika Sagala. When I was in high school, a habit that almost did by all new students is sought for the information about a teacher who teaches each subject. Ranging from how is his/her teaching method, his/her habit in class, whether he/she had a temper, whether he/she likes to give an assignment to student, and finding out whether the teacher is likes to asked student to come forward in the class. This is certainly different with the method in elementary school, where a teacher teaches all subject in the class. So, we search for the information together until we got the details and the personality for each teacher. After we finished our survey in every class, there is one teacher that we thought became the favorite teacher of most students. Not because he is cool, nor his teaching method is excellent, Mr. Roland known for his high patience level. When he was teaching in front of the class, he speaks with a soft voice and still teaches us although the student didnt pay attention to him. Usually he only said, Come on class, please look at the whiteboard. The patience of Mr. Roland, unconsciously give a positive impact for us. For example, we became understand to certain subject that we thought it was impossible to understand. However, no matter how high the patience level of Mr. Roland, he ever vented his anger tremendously in my class. This is happen when I was a 2 nd grader in high school. As we learned the Regional Language lesson, Mr. Roland asked us if there is a lesson that has not understood. Because we dont answer him, he turns to asked us about the material which just has described. Then when he asked to my friend, Andy, the expression of Mr. Rolands face suddenly changes. Apparently, Andy was fast asleep. When he knows it, he strongly slapped Andys head. The whole class immediately silent and become frightened. Andy immediately wake and said, Im sorry Sir, I regret for ignoring your class. With a shaky voice, Mr. Roland apologized to our class for his actions. He said that he would not do that thing if we arent treating him outrageously. Unbelievable! This incident should become a valuable lesson for anyone; include us who saw the incident directly. Patience does not mean to passively endure. Mr. Roland has given an example as a role model in being a teacher. He explained, asked, warned, acted, and not ashamed to ask for apologies. Yeah, it is kind of attitude that should be shown by a teacher when the students are (try to) do not respect their teacher. We apologize to Mr. Roland for the mistakes that we have done. We promise to always respect anyone who is talk to us. Hopefully, this incident will give us a moral lesson so we are not playing with the patience of others, because patience has its limits.
