Larsen & Toubro limited Larsen & Toubro Limited is the biggest legacy of two Danish Engineers, who built a worldclass organization that is professionally managed and a leader in India's engineering and construction industry. It was the business of cement that brought the young Mr.Henning Holck-Larsen and Mr.S.K. Toubro into India. They arrived on Indian shores as representatives of the Danish engineering firm F L Smidth & Co in connection with the merger of cement companies that later grouped into the Associated Cement Companies.

Together, Mr. Holck-Larsen and Mr. Toubro founded the partnership firm of L&T in 1938, which was converted into a limited company on February 7, 1946. Today, this has metamorphosed into one of India's biggest success stories. The company has grown from humble origins to a large conglomerate spanning engineering and construction. Engineering Construction and Contracts (ECC) Division (now L&T Construction) was conceived as Engineering Construction Corporation Limited in April 1944 and was incorporated as wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Limited. L&T's founders Mr. Holck - Larsen and Mr. Toubro laid the foundation for L&T Construction. It has today emerged as India's leading construction organization.

L & T Construction L&T Construction is the largest construction organization in the country. Power Transmission & Distribution IC The Power Transmission & Distribution Independent Company offers comprehensive engineering and construction services for power transmission and distribution projects in the domestic and international markets. It is an established contractor of choice in the area of industrial project electrification, instrumentation, control systems including communication projects. Other areas of L&Ts expertise include solar energy projects and turnkey construction of composite works for railway construction. Substations L&T executes all types of power evacuation projects from concept to commissioning on EPC basis. The key focus areas of L&T are air (765 kV) and gas (400 kV) insulated substations, an area in which the company has gained valuable expertise. The comprehensive services covers following domains:

In addition, L&T also undertakes power quality improvement projects and offers electrical solutions like electrification, air-field and ground lighting system, high/low tension power distribution systems for airports. Airports at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai bear a testimony to L&Ts superior project execution ability.

Industrial Electrification L&T offers project electrification solutions covering plant electrification, instrumentation and extra high voltage cabling works for the whole gamut of core industries such as power, steel, metallurgical, glass, fertilizers, coal, mining, automobile, chemical and fertilizer plants, refinery, petrochemical and cement industries. It has the capability to cater to the complex needs of urban infrastructure and is geared up to provide solutions for metro rail projects.

L&Ts specialized services in electrical works include building electrification and management systems for IT Parks and commercial buildings; sophisticated highway toll management systems Another focus area in industrial electrification is instrumentation and control systems for a wide variety of industries covering procurement, inspection, installation and commissioning on turnkey basis. Turnkey solutions are offered for implementing PLC/DCS and SCADA Supervisory control and data acquisition system - for water distribution network.

Transmission Line L&T has been transmitting power for more than two decades and offers end-to-end services from design and construction to commissioning of EHV power transmission lines. Backed by its ISO and OHSAS certificated 1, 00,000 tpa tower manufacturing facilities in Puducherry and Pithambur, L&T offers complete transmission line solution. L&T has executed projects up to 765 kV EHV AC and 800kV HVDC and its offerings include sourcing, selection, inspection and supply of line materials including conductors, insulators, hardware, OPGW /EW, construction of transmission lines including foundation, tower erection, stringing, testing and commissioning. L&Ts Transmission Line Research and Testing Centre (TLRTC) at Kanchipuram, near Chennai is Indias largest tower testing station. Acclaimed as one of the best in the world, this testing station is equipped with facilities to carry out tests on square or rectangular base lattice tower, monopole, tubular structure and guyed tower for capacities up to 1200kV.

This testing bed apart from analyzing the accuracy of the assumptions made in the design calculation ensures that the tower members meet the optimum levels and desired performance criteria. It also has an exclusive proto fabrication and assembly unit, which interface between design and testing process. PT&D International L&T was one of the earliest companies to operate in Gulf and over the years, gained significant market presence in UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain for executing Power Evacuation, Power Transmission and Power Distribution projects on EPC basis. Total solutions are provided for GIS substations, transmission line projects, underground EHV cabling and electrical & instrumentation works for all the core sectors of Gulf economy and infrastructure projects. More than 1500 km of transmission line projects, nearly 100 power evacuation projects and 586 km of cabling works were executed on EPC basis.
