Directions: Back: With smaller needles, CO 46 (50, 54) sts.


Row 1 (RS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of row. Row 2 (WS): * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of row. Rept these two rows twice more. Change to larger needles and work in St St until piece measures 10 (11, 12) from beg, ending with a WS row. K 14 (15, 16) sts and place on holder for right shoulder. BO center 18 (20, 22) sts. K to end of row and place these 14 (15, 16) sts on holder for left shoulder.

Left Front: With smaller needles, CO 33 (35, 37) sts.


Row 1 (RS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of row. Rept this row five times more. Change to larger needles. Next row (RS): K 13 (15, 17) sts, PM, *P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of row. Next row (WS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to marker, P to end of row. Continue in pattern as established until piece measures 8 (9, 10) from beg, ending with a RS row. Next row (WS): Work 15 (16, 17) sts in pattern, and place these sts on holder for front neck. Continue in pattern to end of row. Maintaining pattern as established, BO 2 sts at beg of next 2 WS rows. When same length as back to shoulder, place remaining 14 (15, 16) sts on holder for shoulder.

Right Front: With smaller needles, CO 33 (35, 37) sts.


Row 1 (WS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of row. Rept this row five times more. Change to larger needles. Next row (WS): P 13 (15, 17) sts, PM, *P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of row. Next row (RS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to marker, K to end of row. Continue in pattern as established until piece measures 5 (6, 7) from beg, ending with a WS row. Buttonhole Row (RS): K 1, P 1, K 1, YO, K2tog, (P 1, K 1) 5 times, YO, K2tog, P 1, K 1, P 1, sl marker, K to end of row. Work 7 rows in pattern as established. Repeat Buttonhole row. Work 7 rows in pattern as established. Next row (RS): Work 15 (16, 17) sts in pattern, and place these sts on holder for front neck. Continue in pattern to end of row. Join Fronts to Back at shoulders using 3-needle bind off.

Neckband: Using smaller needle, place 15 (16, 17) sts from right front neck holder onto needle, join
yarn at front edge, and work in seed st as established. Pick up and knit 10 sts along right front neck edge, then pick up and knit 20 (22, 24) sts along back neck edge, then pick up and knit 10 sts along left front neck edge. Place 15 (16, 17) sts from left front neck holder onto another needle, and work in seed st as established 70 (74, 78) sts. Next row (WS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of row. Next row Buttonhole row (RS): K 1, P 1, K 1, YO, K2tog, (P 1, K 1) 5 times, YO, K2tog, * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of row. Work 3 more rows in pattern as established. BO.

Sleeves: On one side, place markers 4 (4, 4) down from shoulder seam on front and back. Using
larger needles, Pick up and knit 36 (38, 40) sts between markers. Row 1 (WS): * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of row Row 2 (RS): * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of row Rept these two rows for pattern. Continue in pattern, decr 1 st at beg and end of every 4th (6th, 6th) row 6 times 24 (26, 28) sts. Change to smaller needle and work 6 more rows in pattern. BO loosely. Repeat for other side. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.

With smaller circular needle, CO 68 sts. Join into a circle, being careful not to twist your sts. Round 1: * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of round. Round 2: * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of round. Repeat these two rounds until piece measures 1. Change to larger needles and work in St St for 3. Shape crown: Change to double pointed needles. Round 1: * K 7, dbl dcr, K 7, rept from * 3 times more. Round 2 and all even numbered rounds: K Round 3: * K 6, dbl dcr, K 6, rept from * 3 times more. Round 5: * K 5, dbl dcr, K 5, rept from * 3 times more. Round 7: * K 4, dbl dcr, K 4, rept from * 3 times more. Round 9: * K 3, dbl dcr, K 3, rept from * 3 times more. Round 11: * K 2, dbl dcr, K 2, rept from * 3 times more. Round 13: * K 1, dbl dcr, K 1, rept from * 3 times more. Round 15: Dbl dcr 4 times 4 sts remain. Gauge: 5 sts = 1 in stockinette stitch on size 7 needles


[Tip: to slightly enlarge the booties, knit them on size 8 needles at approx. 4.75 sts/in]

Directions: Cuff: Loosely CO 20 sts. Arrange evenly on three needles and join into a circle, being careful not to twist
your sts. Round 1: * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of round. Round 2: * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of round. Repeat these two rounds until piece measures 2. K 1 round. Next round: * YO, K2tog, rept from * to end of round. K 3 rounds. Divide for Heel: K 5. Sl remaining sts on this needle to needle 2 for holding. Turn work. Sl 1, P 9. Move remaining sts on this needle to needle 2 for holding. You now have 10 (25, 29) sts held on needle 2 for your instep, and 10 sts to work for your heel flap. Heel Flap: (worked back and forth in rows) Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, K to end of row Row 2: Sl 1, p to end of row Repeat these two rows 4 times more, then work row 1 again 11 rows. Turn Heel: Row 1: Sl 1, p 5, p2tog, p 1, turn Row 2: Sl 1, k 3, k2tog, k 1, turn Row 3: Sl 1, p 4, p2tog, turn Row 4: Sl 1, k 4, k2tog - 6 sts remain. Pick up Sts for Gussets: Continuing with the needle holding your heel sts, pick up and knit 6 sts down the left side of heel flap. Using a second needle, K 10 sts at instep. Using a third needle, pick up and knit 6 stitches up the right side of heel flap. K 3 sts to center of heel. 28 sts. Beginning of round is at center of heel. K one round. Decrease Gussets: Round 1: Needle 1 K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 Needle 2 Work in rib pattern as established Needle 3 K1, SSK, K to end of round Round 2: K Alternate these two rounds 3 times more 20 sts. Foot: Continue without shaping for 10 (14) rounds. Shape Toe: Round 1: * K 2, K2tog, rept from * 4 times more Round 2: K Round 3: * K 1, K2tog, rept from * 4 times more Round 4: K2tog 5 times Break yarn and draw through remaining sts. Pull tight, and fasten off. Make 3- stitch knitted I-cord as follows: CO 3 sts. * K 3 sts. Do not turn. Slide sts back to other end of needle, draw yarn across back of sts, and rept from *. When cord measures 12, break yarn and draw through all sts. Thread cord through eyelets below cuff and tie in a bow.
