INTRODUCTION ON SPIRIT,
SOUL AND BODY Lesson
#1

LECTURES FROM PAM SHEPPARD
Humans are 3 part beings: spirit,
soul and body. The soul acts as
the conductor or mediator to the
spirit. The spirit is that part of
man’s nature that receives
communication from God and learns
to understand Him.
This is the true meaning of eternal
life.---allowing the Son to reveal
the Father and the Holy Spirit to
reveal the Son---
One of the main reasons for Jesus
coming to earth was to be a living
symbol to mankind of the Father.
This is because God is a Spirit.
The spirit is difficult to understand
without a living or natural symbol.
Therefore, Jesus on earth is the
living, human symbol that is also
divine. When we look in the face
of Jesus in the gospels, we are
able to see the Father. As we
watch and study Jesus in the
gospels, we can perceive the
character of God.
Although the spirit, soul and body
are one, they have separate and
distinct functions, abilities and
manifestations. The soul is the
agent that links the spirit world
and the body. Man could not exist
without the soul. The spirit can

PRE-DELIVERANCE COUNSELING
The name of this training/mentoring
program in deliverance counseling is
called the SEW Program. SEW
stands for SPIRITUAL
EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOP.
THE WORD “SPIRITUAL”
During His three year ministry,
Jesus used parables to explain the
word “spiritual.” A parable is a
story or a comparative illustration
that contains a spiritual message
that is hidden from those who did
not have spiritual discernment.
Very often, Jesus would preface the
parable with a statement such as
“he who has ears to hear let him
hear or eyes to see, let him see.”
Jesus was not referring to the eyes
and ears of your body. He was
referring to the human spirit.
The purpose of a symbol is to use
something we know and understand
to explain something we do not know
or understand. A parable is a
symbolic story. A symbol adds
substance to the spiritual. It
provides a natural understanding to
a spiritual truth.
THE WORD “EMPOWERMENT”
Your goal as a deliverance counselor

once the soul has left, the body is
“brain dead” or dead.
The soul receives, evaluates,
discards and or accepts messages
between the spirit and the body,
thus making decisions. Besides
man’s will, the soul consists of the
mind, the emotions, perceptions,
and personality.
The body is only aware of earth
consciousness----what it can sense
in the physical world. It cannot
communicate to the spirit directly
without the help of the mind, that
is within the soul of man.
The soul within the body is aware
of the physical world. For
example, the mind knows when the
body is in pain. In spite of the
occultic promises of the New Age,
the soul’s ability to control the
body is limited.
However, the soul is immortal. As
such, after death, the soul will
have not only emotional memory,
but the soul of those who do not
die in Jesus will have memory of
pain beyond the grave. (Read Luke
16 concerning the rich man who
died, whose soul could feel the
burning of the flames in hell)

thereby continue to stand as they
fight to hold on to freedom. The
bible says that the one that rules
his own spirit is better than the one
who can take a city. The one who
is empowered is able to use the
intuition and conscience of his or
her spirit to discern between good
and evil, between the Lord and the
devil. Demons are professional at
knowing our weaknesses and those
seductions that he can use against
us to draw us into temptation. The
SEW Program is a vehicle for
identifying emotional and mental
distractions that block spiritual
power. In this context,
empowerment is knowing yourself
better than your enemy, the devil,
knows YOU! The mentoring
component of the SEW Program is
to equip you to keep yourself from
being tainted by demonic influences.
Furthermore, spiritual empowerment
is also being equipped to operate in
the spiritual realm where the Holy
Spirit dwells.
THE WORD “WORKSHOP”
You will be working in a group with
from 5 to 10 others. Much of our
own spiritual growth is planned by
the Lord to occur as a result of the
tension and experience derived from

Before Adamic sin, the spirit
controlled the whole person. After
the fall, the soul became dominant,
often yielding to the pressures of
the body. As it now stands, for
the spirit to govern, the soul must
give its consent.
In the bible, man is compared to a
building---Jesus referred to man
as a house in Matthew 12. Man is
also called “a temple.” We are like
the tabernacle of the children of
Isreal in the Old Testament. The
courtyard is akin to our body, the
holy place is like our soul. The
Holy of Holies is compared to our
spirit, where God in the person of
the HOLY SPIRIT resides, once we
are born again.
Worship is not in the soul. It is
not emotionalism. God is
worshipped only through the spirit
and not by the intellect or
emotions.
The soul represents the self of
man. It is the seat of sin within
us. The soul cannot discern the
things of God without the help of
the born again spirit. Since the

our interaction in relationship to
and with others who either inhabit
our human space or who are merely
passing by for the moment. Simply
put, the Holy Spirit will use others
to play a particular role in our lives
so that He can produce spiritual
fruit of understanding and wisdom
that will lead to spiritual growth.
At the completion of the eLessons

will also participate in a workshop
here in New York with others who
have also been involved in the same
process. As the Lord leads, Pastor
Pam may put trainees in touch with
each other throughout the year.
THE HIDDEN MEANING OF SEW
The name “SEW” is a symbol of
growth in the spirit. When you
“sew”, you are repairing or mending
a garment. The garment that needs
mending is the torn or damaged
human spirit.
Jesus said that you cannot repair
an old garment with a new piece of
cloth or the old garment will be
ripped and destroyed. The garment
is symbolic of the spirit. You
cannot grow spiritually until the
garment of your spirit is made new.
Moreover, once your spirit is made
new (born again), your soul must be

Therefore, the soul must be
RENEWED. A part of renewal is
brokenness followed by restoration.
When the Bible refers to the
“flesh”, it does not mean the body.
Flesh on the body consists of
muscle, fat, skin, etc. However,
the term “flesh” in the word of God
is referring to our carnal nature.
The flesh, or the carnal nature, is
a mixture between the soul and the
spirit and the soul and the body.
Carnal Christians are said to be
“flesh oriented.” The flesh
masquerades as “spiritual.” Those
who are in “the flesh”, cannot
please God. This is not talking
about the physical body.
The flesh, therefore, is human
nature that has not been subjected
to the cross of Christ. When the
flesh has not been broken by God,
it is controlled by its earthly
humanity. Human nature has the
capacity for “good works” that can
appear to be “spiritual.” IT IS
IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT

“renewed” or “cultivated” by the pun
on the word, “SOWING.”
The word “SOW” is a “sound alike”
word with a different meaning. To
sow means to plant seed. The SEW
Program’s main goal is to plant new
seed into a new spirit through the
stages of harvesting as outlined in
“TO CURSE THE ROOT.”, NAMELY,
PLOWING, WEEDING, SOWING,
TILLING, WATERING,
FRUITBARING AND PRUNING.
Each one of these stages shall be
explored in detail throughout this
course. Below you will find an
overview of the plowing stage.

WEEK THREE
PLOWING
Before you can plant new seed, you
must FIRST plow the ground.
Repentance is the most essential
plowing tool. Repentance will soften
the hardened ground of a cold
conscience and prepare the
darkened spirit to be translated out
of the demonic kingdom into the
kingdom of God.
Discerning of spirits is yet another

DEMON OF THE MONTH
WHAT IS A RELIGIOUS DEMON?
Read Isaiah 14 and Exekiel 38, also
Matthew Ch. 4 when Satan implores
Jesus to bow down to him in the
wilderness.
Satan has always wanted to be
worshipped. This is one of the
primary reasons for his fall. He
has not changed. Satan seeks
worship from God’s human creation,
no matter the form, the motive or
the cause. Of course, he openly
receives worship from those who
practice the religion of Satanism.
However, it satisfies the demonic
world even more for Satan to
receive worship from the deceived
and the unsuspecting.

important tool. As a supernatural
gift of the Holy Ghost, the gift of
discerning of spirits operates by the
will of God and not the will of man.
Therefore, we use diagnostic
assessment tools, questionnaires,
screening devices and the like to
uncover demonic deception, influence
and infestation by the use of the
Deliverance Assessment Form. I
have created my own version of a
form found in a book entitled “How
To Cast Out Demons” by Doris
Wagner. Doris Wagner credits
others for their input into the form.
Each item or question on the form
will be reviewed in detail in a
future lesson.
Plowing is an initial and fundamental
step to pre-deliverance counseling.
Involving the steady and painstaking
turning over the ground of the soul,
in order to find demonic doorways.
A demonic doorway may be personal
or generational. It involves an
action or a practice that opened up
the individual, and perhaps his or
her entire family to demonic
oppression. The pre-deliverance
counselor must develop keen listening
skills during personal interviews.
Virtual counseling requires excellent

who are practicing idolatry without
knowing it. Many of these people
are practicing a false religion. Any
religion that does not have Jesus
Christ as Lord and Saviour is an
idolatrous one, including Judaism
without Christ as the Messiah.Any
religion that has added another
book to the bible is a false religion
ie, Mormonism (Latter Day Saints),
Jehovah Witnesses, and others.
Because of its various idolatrous
practices, Catholicism can be added
to this list. Religious demons in
conjunction with the witchcraft
demon are behind such groups as
the freemasons, the Eastern Star
and other secret societies. (In
future lessons, the most dangerous
and deceptive of these groups and
organizations. will be studied.)
There are religious demons that are
involved in the occult, the New Age
Movement, hypnotism, yoga, tarot
cards, Ouija boards, color therapy,
astrology, ---this is a long list,
with old practices with new names
added to them daily.
Where the religious demon obtains
a special kind of satisfaction is in
the church. You can find religious
demons involved in every aspect,
masquerading as the gifts of the
Spirit, speaking in tongues, being

reading, reasoning and even
investigative skills to not only be
able to understand and interpret the
lines, but also to “read between
them.” For as the Greatest
Counselor of all has said “out of the
abundance of the heart (the soul),
the mouth speaks.”
As we examine our assessment
tools, plowing is an information
gathering, storing and organizing
phase of the work of pre-
deliverance. Plowing poses the
questions of “who is this
client?””what is this client the
product of and who has molded him
or her?” “is this client saved?” “How
many demons are involved and what
are their names?” “What are the
most important spiritual truths that
this client must receive in order to
be able to actively participate in his
or her own deliverance?” “What are
this client’s strengths and
weaknesses?”
The information gleaned during the
plowing stage will also lead to the
development of a deliverance
treatment plan. Planning follows
assessment in the problem solving
process. Assessment sets the stage
for the actual deliverance and
planning specifies what should be

slain in the spirit, healing, and even
in the ministry of casting out of
devils!!!=== as well as behind various
false doctrine.
Remember the words of Paul to
Timothy: “In the last days, some
shall depart from the faith, giving
heed to seducing spirits and
doctrines of devils.” Religious
demons are in both of the two
categories of churches on earth
today: the charismatics or non-
denominationals and the traditional
or the denominational churches.
How can a person with a religious
demon be identified?
Some of them are extremely
obvious in society. There are the
“Jesus Freaks” that have stickers
all over their cars and Jesus
written all over their persons.
They are especially weird in order
to turn the unsaved not toward
Christ, but away from Him. In
other words, if I have to act like
this freak, I don’t want no parts of
Jesus Christ!
The other obvious group are those
who end up on mental health
medication, many of them even
declaring that they are the Christ.
Demons of fear and anxiety often
join up with the religious demon to

done. The most important tool in
the planning process is the client.
For example, if the assessment
process reveals that the client’s
faith is not active or that there are
major issues of doubt and unbelief,
then a major objective of the pre-
deliverance counseling process is to
build up the client’s faith. As a
counselor, the deliverance treatment
plan will list problems, hindrances in
the situation, the goals, objectives
and the strategies toward building
the client’s faith. The question then
becomes “how important is this issue
of faith relative to the strength of
the particular demon or demons
involved? Can the demon be cast
out prior to his or her faith being
built up? Does this person have a
strong network system of Christian
elders who can stand with the
client? Or will the client be even
further devoured because of a lack
of faith?
As you prepare the deliverance
treatment plan, you will also
examine the pros and the cons
relative to what are the client’s
chances of success. Demons will
always come out at the name of
Jesus, whether the person is saved
or a believer, but you need to
assess what needs to be done to
ensure that the client is able to

cause a person to fear the
destruction of the earth and the
final judgement. Several of these
persons will end up on medication.
The ones who are the most
dangerous are the ones that are
difficult to discern. Many of this
kind may have big grins on their
face and tell you that Jesus loves
you and invite you to their church.
Generally though, a person with a
religious demon who goes to church
frequently is usually out of balance
in some way.
For example, they cannot receive
correction, they are rigid in their
interpretation of scripture, often
taking scripture out of context to
put someone in bondage, their
emotions are unstable---they are
either reaching for the stars filled
with ecstacy at the glory of God or
they are in the deepest valley of
despair and depression.
Some of these people will leave you
long sermons on their telephone
answering machines, can not say a
sentence without saying “amen,
praise the Lord, I’m blessed” etc.
Some will appear to love being
passive and victimized, as they
believe that they are “suffering for
the Lord.”

why the religious demon is the first
to “hunt” for. The reality is that if
the client is not saved but believes
that he is, to cast out demons may
just place the client in even more
bondage. Only a saved person has
the power to stand against the
enemy. The armor of the Lord only
belongs to those who believe on His
Name.
A part of the treatment plan is to
also specify objectives. For
example, I had asked a client on
the Deliverance Assessment Form
whether or not she had tattoos.
She checked the box. When I
enquired deeper about it, she
revealed to me that there were
three large python snakes on her
back. Subsequently, the treatment
plan included a specific objective to
remove the tattoos by either
covering them with tape during the
deliverance, or going back to the
tattooist and have these snakes
covered with “the red blood of
Jesus” and blocked out with a cross.
As an aside, through experience I
know that certain demons put up
the worst struggle during
deliverance because it believes that
it has rights, ie a lease to the
house of one’s soul, based upon an
act such as “giving one’s soul to the

MANIFESTATIONS OF THE
RELIGIOUS DEMON
One day, a minister preached a
sermon with the title “DRY BONES,
taken from the familiar passage
from the book of Ezekiel. After
the service, a woman well known to
me whom I will call Sister Ann came
to the altar with several others
who were gathered. Sister Ann
was a frequent church goer, having
grown up in church. Her deceased
father and several brothers were
preachers.
The message had been fiery in the
traditional style of African

him.
A demon that tries to throw a
captive into fire or water for the
sake of killing him is what is called
a spirit of death. However, the
demon of death was not addressed.
Jesus spoke directly to the two
most powerful demons in this case:
the deaf and dumb spirit.
In this regard, the importance of
gathering information and forming
objectives is for the major purpose
of providing a means for measuring
whether or not they have been
attained or not. In other words,

know if freedom has been obtained

demonic condition. Has the fear
and anxiety stopped? Are the
voices gone? Etc.
Recently, a blind woman was at one
of my seminars and I thought that I
should pray for her healing.
However, when I asked her what
she wanted, her response was “I
want to have the level of sight that

It took five strong people to try to
restrain her, to no avail.
Somehow, someone caught the baby
before he hit the church floor also.
This is what some black folk call
“shouting.” At the time, I was
completely ignorant of the workings
of a religious demon. It was just
that my spirit knew that the
manifestation that I had just
witnessed was not from the Lord.
When this woman “came to
herself”, I began to question her
after service to try to understand
what had happened. I said, “Sister
Ann, what were you thinking about
just before you “went into the
spirit?” She said, “I was thinkin
bout my Daddy. My Daddy used to
always preach a message called
“Dry Bones.”
This is a clear example of how

So I prayed for what she asked
for. This is as far as her faith
would take her. Where deliverance
is concerned, you must first of all
assess the relationship that the
client has with the demons and what
are the emotional factors that would
cause the client not to want to be
completely delivered.
Believe it or not, some people like
their demons. The demons are
accepted as a kind of “company of
friends.” It is only those rare
times when they are being viciously
tortured or tormented that they
seek help. The reality is that they
do not want to do what it takes to
be completely delivered. All they
want is for their demons to be
appeased.

restricted, even though they are
not foods that were a regular part
of your diet. Even if weight loss
may come to a standstill after
about six months, you can’t help
loving the Weight Watchers
program.
You see, a diet says “I cannot
have.” Anytime your soul tells your
body that it cannot have, the
response of the body is “why not?
I want it.” The spirit must then
rise to the occasion and tell the
soul “all things are lawful unto me
but all things are not expedient or
helpful. Therefore, I refuse to be
brought under the power of
anything that is not helpful.”
The soul also likes to use the word
of God as if it were a hammer. As

discern come?” Many study all the

cannot discern truth in the spirit.

learning how to discern is to

be able to sense the sinfulness of
pride in his own spirit. Therefore,
when pride appears in the captive,
the counselor will not be able to
sense it. His spirit will not be
distressed. He may even feel
sympathetic to the captive when
what he should be feeling is a sense
of distress within his own spirit.
When the Lord deals with you
through the work of the Holy Spirit
by breaking you, then when you
come across a sinful situation, you
will feel distressed because your
senses have been exercised to
discern evil and to feel what God

were impressed by another
member’s weight lost on Weight
Waters and decided that they too
would join the program. One of
them was not overweight and the
other had about 30-50 pounds to
lose. I watched the overweight one
snatch a cookie from the other
one’s hand and firmly say, “you are
not supposed to eat this.”
This was not true. The cookie was
not in violation to WW. Eating it
was permissible as long as
adjustments were made to the
overall menu for the day. As I
said, this young woman was not
even overweight. She merely had a
health problem that would be
better managed if she lost a few
pounds. However, both of these
young women were accustomed to
bondage. They had been
emotionally, physically and even
sexually abused and had adjusted
themselves to the rod of others.
The issue was not the cookie. The
issue was self control and learning
how to live a balanced, moderate
life. Abused people learn how to
become adjusted to “prohibitions.”
Then, when no one is watching,
they tend to overindulge or gorge.
This is when demons will take
advantage of a weakened self
image, and torment the captive

Himself feels about that evil.
Once you discern the ailment or
weakness that opened the door to
demonic oppression, then you can
serve your brother in the area of
pride, if pride was the problem.
The more your own soul is renewed,
the better you can serve. The
more you yourself are dealt with,
the better you will be able to make
an assessment based on spiritual
truth. Then you will be able to
pinpoint the real condition of
others.
THE INTERVIEW
Our Lord said that out of the
abundance of the heart, the mouth
speaks. In email language, “the pen
writes.” To make a good
assessment of a person’s soul, listen
to his mouth. If you are counseling
by email, examine every written
word and phrase, even the ordering
of his thoughts in the way he puts
forth his inner man in his sentences.
Counseling Strategies in Dealing With
the Religious Demon.
Both the religious demon and the
witchcraft demon are rooted in the
pride of its captive. In the

In pre-deliverance counseling, the
counselor needs to learn how to
counsel God’s people to realize that
Jesus is not a hammer! In such
instances, the soul must be
retrained and renewed.
IDEALISM: ZEAL NOT
ACCORDING TO KNOWLEDGE
In his pamphlet entitled
“Overcoming the Religious Spirit”,
Rick Joyner warns about how
demons take advantage of religious
zeal. Here are his words, taken
from the section called “the
Foundation of Pride:
Idealism is one of the most
deceptive and destructive disguises
of the religious spirit. Idealism is
of human origin, and is a form of
humanism. Although it has the
appearance of seeking only the
highest standards and the
preservation of God’s glory,
idealism is possibly the most deadly
enemy of true revelation and true
grace. It is deadly because it does
not allow for growing up into grace
and wisdom, but attacks and
destroys the foundation of those
who are in pursuit of God’s glory,
but are not yet there.

scriptures, rebellion, a form of
pride, is comparable to witchcraft.
However, since the captive to the
witchcraft demon will invariably
suffer loss, or some other negative
outcome to his physical and
emotional well being, its captive will
ultimately desire freedom.
Besides being saved, the freewill of
the captive is probably the next
most important element to
deliverance. Once the captive
decides that he or she wants to be
free, even though the witchcraft
demon will put up a formidable
struggle to remain, it will eventually
be expelled at the power and
authority of the name of Jesus of
Nazareth.
However, the religious demon's
power lies in the fact that there is
an unbrokenness in the captive's
soul that provides the demon a
permanent dwelling place. As long as
the captive is committed to even a
half truth, the religious demon is
comfortable. This was the problem
with Saul of Tarsus. He had a zeal
that was not according to
knowledge. What saved Saul, was
his call to become "Paul, the 12th
Apostle." Paul's religious demon
fled immediately upon his personal
confrontation with Jesus Christ
through his visionary, supernatural

Idealism makes us try to impose on
others various standards that are
beyond what God has required or
given the grace for at that time.
For example, men controlled by this
kind of religious spirit may condemn
those who are not praying two
hours a day as they are. The
truth is, it may be God’s will for us
to be praying that much, but how
we get there is crucial. The grace
of God may first call us to pray
just ten minutes a day. Then, as
we become so blessed by His
presence, we will want to spend
more and more time with Him until
we will not want to quit after ten
minutes, then an hour, then two.
When we eventually are praying two
hours a day, it will be because of
our love for prayer and the
presence of the Lord, not out of
fear or pride.
When a religious spirit is founded
upon pride, it is evidenced by
perfectionism. The perfectionist
sees everything in black and white.
This develops into extremes,
requiring that every person be
judged as either 100 %r right or
100% wrong. This is a standard
with which only Jesus could comply;
it will lead to a serious delusion
when we impose it on ourselves or
others. True grace imparts a truth
that sets people free, showing them

experience.
This is how the Lord got me also.
The Holy Spirit confronted me with
the cross. I was an atheist who
believed that Jesus Christ was a
myth, similar to Santa Claus.
However, I was confronted with the
cross. Everywhere that I turned, I
saw a cross both in the natural and
in the spiritual. I could be riding
down the street and the cross on
top of a church steeple practically
tripled in size. If two leaves fell
from the ground, they fell into a
pattern of the cross. I went to
sleep at night and dreamt that a
newborn baby spoke to me and said
"Give me my cross please." This
was how the Lord drew me. I was
bombarded by the cross. It was
“urgently supernatural” and
therefore could not be ignored.
Peter was the same way. I will not
say that Peter had a religious
demon. However, he was operating
in a half truth for 10 years after
the Lord's ascension. He did not
believe that the gentiles could be
saved. Therefore, the Lord had to
come to Him in a supernatural way
and give him a vision of Cornelius
and instruct Peter to go to the
home of Cornelius and preach the
gospel. Peter even argued with the
Holy Spirit by saying that he would

beckoning them to higher levels of
spiritual maturity.
The perfectionist both imposes and
tries to live by standards that
stifle true maturity and growth.
The grace of God will lead us up
the mountain step by step. The
Lord does not condemn us because
we may trip a few times while
trying to climb. He graciously picks
us up with the encouragement that
we can make it. We must have a
vision of making it to the top, and
should never condemn ourselves (or
the captive: added by Pastor Pam),
for not being their yet, as long as
we, (and the captive: added by
Pastor Pam” are still climbing.
“BEYOND THE ROPE” BY PASTOR

Jesus said these words to those
who had accused Him of casting out
devils in the power of the devil.
He said to them: If I cast out
devils by the Spirit of God, then
the kingdom of God has come upon
you. Or else how can one enter a
strong man’s house, and spoil his
goods, except he first bind the
strong man? And then he will spoil

never "eat anything that was
unclean."
Another thing that the Lord will
do is to send someone to a person
with a religious demon whose
spiritual knowledge and experience
he will respect. I am yet a good
example. Once I got saved, I
carried over into Christianity some
of the false teachings I had
received as a result of my occult
practices. The word of God helped
me to discard reincarnation. After
all, it was easy to see that if we
could have many lives to reach
salvation, what would be the purpose
of the cross? I could easily
understand that "it is appointed
unto man once to die, and then the
judgement."
However, I still had an affinity for
communication with "my spirits of
the dead." I did not know that
these spirits were not the dead, but
that they were demons. No
Christian that I knew could persuade
me otherwise. I had a spirit of
divination which is similar to a
religious demon. I thought "my
spirits" had led me to Christ, not
realizing that either an angel or the
Holy Spirit Himself entered into my
darkness and drew me to the Light,
in spite of "my demons."

As a SEW Program Counselor, your
goal is to “examine the captive’s
house.” If a Christian, the captive
is really a stong man that has been
bound---spirit, soul and body, it is
your job to discover how did he get
bound. It most definitely was a
demon or demons that “entered the
captive’s house, bound him and
spoiled his goods: his family, his
job, his peace of mind, even his
sanity. However, if you are bound
yourself, how can you unbind the
captive? Good question. The
answer is that you cannot.
To make a point, here is a good
example from my experience as a
long distance swimmer. I swim in
many different places. All of
those places are bound by a rope
that defines my space. There are
others on each side of me. I can
be distracted when someone jumps
into the pool on each side of the
rope and swims faster than I do.
At the end of the top and the
bottom of the pool is a wall that
causes me to break my stride
before I turn around and swim back
down the lane. I always feel
better, more free, when I swim at
a time when no one else is in the
water. Regardless, I swim for an
hour, at least 30 minutes longer

It took being led to a very
powerful Christian, a former martial
artist whose name was Matte Elan.
He was of Asian descent. He
informed me that demons had given
him the power to kick a door and
turn it into dust. The first time I
had ever heard the word "prophet"
was through him. He looked
intensely at me and said. "You have
been working for the devil. The
devil knows your future and he is
trying to destroy you with his
counterfeit gifts because the devil
knows that you are one of the
Lord's prophets."
When I left Matte Elan's place of
business, I ran home and began to
burn every astrology, occultist book
that I had. I had at least 1000
dollars worth of books. I also ran
to a little church similar to the one
I now pastor and had them baptize
me, immerse me that very day. I
don't know how I knew to do
that---whether Matte told me or
that I just knew it in my spirit.
However, several Christians had
been trying to reveal truth to me,
but I would only hear it through
someone who had also "been there"
and experienced demonic power.
Therefore, I believe the prayer for
someone captive to a religious demon
is for the Lord to visit him in a

than the average lap swimmer.
When I swim in a backyard pool, I
am even more restrained. There
are all kinds of floating tubes and
balls in the water. I have to swim
around them. Since the space is
very small in comparison to the
Olympic pool of the YMCA, I must
now go around and around in
circles. I cannot stay there long.
It becomes boring to me and I
don’t usually swim there for more
than 30 minutes.
However at a certain lake is where
I enjoy swimming the most.---
Why? Because lap swimmers are
permitted to go beyond the rope,
so that there are no collisions with
those who are frolicking and playing
in the water. Even though there is
a rope on one side of me and I
have to make sure that I don’t go
too far “out there,” I feel free. I
truly enjoy my swim. I don’t look
at the rope on the side of me. I
can see the landscape, the beauty
of the sun hitting the water, no
one is out there with me and so I
am not distracted by any other
human being or sound. The water
feels like silk, and I could glide in
it for two hours or even more.
I use this natural example to
present a spiritual truth to the

personal, supernatural way in order
remove the blinders from his
spiritual eyes. Once this happens,
then the religious demon will flee of
its own accord. Only truth will cast
the religious demon out and that
truth must come through either a
human vessel whose knowledge and
spirituality they respect or by
having a personal confrontation with
the Lord Himself.

is--- YOU MUST GO BEYOND THE
ROPE. Going beyond the rope is to
lose all fear in your search for
personal freedom.

You may learn five years of lessons

in one year or take five years to
learn one lesson. I myself have
been learning spiritual things for 30
years: Three years on the dark
side and 27 years in Christ, of
which 22 of those years have been
in ministry. As you read “To Curse
the Root”, you will find out that I
have been broken several times. I
have been broken even more since I
finished the book in 1996. I was
broken again less than a week ago.

I have been serving in ministry for

22 years this October 2003,
however, I have been learning more
than I have been serving. What I
have been learning for the most
part is how to be “spiritually
sensitive.”

At first I thought that spiritual

sensitivity could only be attained
through the 9 supernatural gifts of
the Holy Ghost, particularly the
discerning of spirits. Yet the word
of God makes it plain that these 9
gifts only operate “as the Spirit
wills” and not simply because we
either desire them or seek them.

We are told to seek them and to

desire them, but we must be
warned that Satan has some very
clever counterfeits.

BIBLICAL TRUTHS TO REMEMBER

1. Anyone who is truly saved

cannot be touched by the
devil without God’s
permission. (Job Ch. 1)
2. The plan of God is to lead
the demons to reveal their
own folly. (II Timothy 2:26)
3. The devil believes that the
only thing that keeps the
believer faithful to the Lord
is the fact that he or she is
protected by the hedge. In
other words, we are in it for
the blessings and protection
from demons. Demons are
convinced that when the
pressure is placed upon us,
we will not stand.
4. When a demon has been able
to have place in a Christian’s
life, we should examine the
situation based upon points
1-3.
5. When the battle comes in a
believer’s life, the Lord will
make a way of escape. Very
often, you as a counselor,
shall be the “way” that the
Lord has made for the
captive to escape.

6. Sometimes the Lord will

permit a believer to be
deceived because there is a
valuable lesson to be learned
from the experience.
7. We must all accept being
vulnerable to demonic
deception and attack.
8. We will never be smart
enough to discern the trap
that has been set before us.
However, what is covered
shall be uncovered, what is
hid shall be made known.
9. As a counselor, you must
simply trust God to open your
spiritual eyes and reveal
demonic devices to you, as
you walk by faith with
complete and total trust in
Jesus Christ.
10.Anyone who is not saved, is
in the hands of the devil
because the devil has rule
and authority over him or
her. Any unsaved person who
seeks deliverance must first
come under the authority of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
who is the Deliverer.
