GREAT OPPORTUNITIES
1. FRG Leader Forum - the next quarterly FRG Leader Forum is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m., on 23 Apr, at America's Credit Union - Lewis North Branch. The theme for this forum is "Volunteers - Our Greatest Natural Resource". This activity is designed for FRG Leaders, CoLeaders, and Advisors. Donate to Blood Drive The Armed Services Blood Bank Center Pacific Northwest is conducting blood drives this week: Monday at Waller Hall, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m; Wednesday at McChord Chapel Support Center, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Old Fire Station, Building 2014. For information, call Victor L. Shermer at 968-1903. 3. Enter Military Masters Sounders Lanes Bowling Center at McChord Field invites you to enter the 8th Annual Military Masters April 20. First place garners $1,000 and entry in the 2013 USBC Masters or USBC Senior Masters, plus $500 toward travel (based on 30 or more entries). All entrants must be USBC members. 4. Financial Resiliency Expo planned Government employees are invited to the JBLM Financial Resiliency Expo April 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stone Education Center. The event offers resources and support services for DOD employees impacted by sequestration. Topics discussed in seminars and classes will include mortgage and refinancing assistance, loan processing, credit management, utilities issues, landlord/tenant issues, money management and budget and stress management. Ninety-minute employee financial fitness seminars will begin at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Participants will include local and major financial institutions, utility companies, Civilian Personnel Advisory Center, Employee Assistance Program, ACS, Women, Infant and Children, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, RideShare, Veterans Administration, Chaplains and Military Family Life Consultants. Fun night out at Mystery Dinner Theater Dine on a delicious dinner at the McChord Club/Community Center while you try to figure out who dunnit at an interactive murder mystery theater performance, Engaged to Die. Do the Spring Fair in Puyallup The Spring Fair in Puyallup is April 18-21. Admission is free to kids ages 18 and younger on opening day. On April 19, Military Appreciation Day, admission is free to active duty, reserve and retired military and their dependents, National Guard and disabled veterans with valid military ID. Regular admission is: Adults $10; students (ages 6-18) $7; ages 5 and younger, free. This is a fun shoot for military members, guests and interested archers. Set-up is April 19 from noon to finish and tear-down is April 21, noon to finish.The cost is $15 for adults (2013 paid-up range members are $10), immediate family members are either $15 or $20. Shadow Run honors JBLM Ranger Runners and walkers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Puget Sound are invited to honor the legacy of Pac-12 and NFL star Pat Tillman by participating in Pats Run Shadow Run April 20 at 9:00 a.m. The Western Washington Shadow Run will begin in Tacoma at Theas Park, 405 Dock St., by the downtown waterfront. Pats Run Shadow Runs are fun 4.2-mile runs symbolic of the number Tillman wore while attending Arizona State University. Proceeds directly support the Tillman Military Scholars program. Compete in womens rugby 7s All Army Sports is adding womens rugby 7s to its calendar starting this year. The deadline for applications for athletes and coaches is June 1. The competition is July 17-21 in Denver, Colo. Participants could be selected to represent the Army in armed forces sports championships, national and international competitions. Financially Fit Furlough workshops Free workshops are being offered in April by Army Community Service Financial Readiness at Lewis Main for those affected by furloughs. Using your LES, see what the difference may be in income if a furlough hits. Through hands-on examples and interactive class participation, attendees will learn how to prepare a budget, participate in a reality-check exercise, readjust the budget to reflect the results of the reality check, and develop a spending plan that will assist in keeping the spending on track with the

budget. Tools used in the classroom will be provided to participants on a take-home disc with usable worksheets. Minimum age: 12 ($35) Popular Family trip Bike through the Skagit tulips Sunday, April 14 The beauty of hundreds of acres of tulips awaits you! On a guided bike ride through the Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, well tour the Roozengaarde gardens and view open fields of tulips. In the small tourist town of La Conner, well enjoy a hearty lunch and experience the festival from a local perspective. The trip is Sunday, April 14. The fields might be muddy, and the weather might be chilly or rainy, so be prepared and dress in layers with a waterproof jacket. Fee includes bike, helmet and gloves. KIDS

Home School Activity Day Tuesday, Apr 9, 2013 HomeSchool Activity Day will meet four sessions per month during the school year. Children 6 years and above (to 18) may attend. All participants must be registered in CYSS. Parents are required to attend a one time orientation prior to their first time attending. Orientation dates are noted on the calendar and

will begin at 11:30 a.m. Sign up is monthly. The monthly fee is $25 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. All sessions run from 12 to 2 p.m. Parents are not required to stay; please pick up children by 2 p.m. The fee is a monthly fee and remains the same regardless of attendance. CLUB BEYOND
Activity Change: The Ft Lewis skating rink will not be open for their normal Wednesday skating. So we have changed our activity to the Ft Lewis bowling alley on Thursday from 12:30-2:30. This will be free, but students must make sure to bring or wear a pair of socks. We will go next door to the Club building for ice cream from 2:30-3:30. Madigan EFMP HOURS! Hours of operation at Madigan EFMP are 0730-1600 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. NO CLIENTS ON THURSDAY/NO CALLS ANSWERED ON THURSDAY. New Parent Support Program


The New Parent Support Program (NSPS) is a professional team of social workers and registered nurses who provide no-cost, in-home parenting support and educational services to JBLM families with children ages 0 - 3 years of age. The program helps parents learn to cope with stress, isolation, post-deployment reunions and the everyday demands of parenthood. Home visiting: We offer parents the opportunity to improve their skills as parents and to learn new skills. There are often many questions about childrens needs and behaviors as well as how to deal with them. The NPSP is a personalized and effective resource for parents. Classes: Registration is required for all NPSP classes. Please call 253-967-5901 to register. Free childcare is available for all classes. Children must be pre-registered with CYSS to receive care. Infant Massage: Learn the art of infant massage from instructors trained to teach the Loving Touch curriculum. Improve sleep and appetite and learn techniques to sooth a colicky baby and increase brain development. Common Sense Parenting: is a class to learn new ways to deal with childrens problem behaviors. The classes are led by trained facilitators who are committed to help parents create a positive and healthy environment where their family can thrive. Common Sense Parenting targets interventions for toddlers and school aged children. Stress Free Parenting: is a class that integrates Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR Model) practices to parenting. If you find yourself overwhelmed with parenting and dont have the support you need to be the parent that you want to be, then this group is for you. Parents will learn and practice mindfulness skills to decrease stress. 24-7 Dad Workshop: Being the best dad you can be is the MOST important kind of home improvement you can do for your family, whether youre a new dad, single dad, or a seasoned veteran. Join the 24/7 Dad workshop and learn what you can do for your family whether you are a new dad or a seasoned vet! Dr. Dad: Are you an expectant Dad or have infants and/or toddlers? Join us for this free class and learn how to take care of the Well Child, The Sick Child, the Injured Child and the Safe Child. 1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for all children, toddlers through teens, 1-2-3 Magic is an evidence-based parenting technique created by Dr. Phelan. Parents will learn how to discipline without arguing, yelling, or spanking. 1-2-3 Magic gives parents specific and effective skills to address negative behaviors such as tantrums, aggression, disrespectful language and much more. You will also learn how to assist your child with starting a new behavior such as chores, manners, and respectful language. Childrens Groups These are ongoing support programs for your child to interact and play with peers, and for parents to connect with other parents.

Infant Play Group: is a laid back, interactive atmosphere for parents and infants to begin socializing with one another. Infants may benefit from socializing with other infants and learning new ways to communicate. Parents may benefit by receiving support from other parents about resources in the area, feeding tips, sleeping routines and much more. Infant play group is held every Thursday afternoon at 1300 in the Rainbows and Raindrops Center. Play Morning: is for all children up to age 5. Play morning is a music centered group where children get to sing, dance, and play musical instruments together. The facilitators provide the tunes and lead the group in fun filled music activities. These groups occur at Rainbows and Raindrops every Friday at 10:00. They also are held at the Escape Zone every Friday at 10:30. These are drop-in groups so no registration is required.

MADIGAN
1. Department of Pediatrics extended care hours in the evenings and on weekends will no longer be offered after Sunday, March 31. Curtailment of the Extended Care Clinic is a result of the current fiscal constraints due to Sequestration. Plans are in place to restore extended care hours once funding issues are resolved. Pediatrics schedules appointments on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are sorry for any inconvenience. 2. South Sound military families and retirees, the Madigan-South Sound Community Medical Home will see its first patients on Wednesday, April 3 at its new location in Olympias Memorial Medical Plaza. If you are interested in trying out Madigans newest clinic please call (253) 477-5149 for details. The clinic is located across from the main entrance to Providence St. Peter Hospital at 500 Lilly Rd NE, Suite 120 in Olympia (98506). Madigan-South Sound Community Medical Home will bring military medicine closer to home for military Families designed for Active Duty Family Members for your convenience and proximity to where you live. Enrollment is currently limited to Active Duty Family Members and selected retirees living in zip codes in the Lacey, Olympia and Yelm area. This is Madigan Army Medical Centers next step in creating the premier military health care organization as we provide safe, quality care to you and your Family. 3. Support flu research. Madigan is looking for volunteers to participate in an Influenza study. Madigan researchers are studying differences between viruses that cause Influenza-like illness in otherwise healthy children and adults, including the response of the immune system, symptoms, severity of illness and duration of illness. This is a multi-center study that includes military medical centers throughout the United States. Researchers hope to collect important information that may guide future diagnosis and treatment. 1. Family member scholarships The Fort Lewis Family Member Scholarship Fund is accepting 2013 scholarship applications to April 10. Applications can be downloaded from www.fortlewisscholarship.com. Applicants are encouraged to use the fill-in form. Family members of active duty service members, retirees and surviving family members are eligible to receive scholarships without regard to family income or rank of the service member. The applicant remains anonymous until the process is complete. The Fort Lewis Family Member Scholarship Fund typically awards more than $29,000 per year, which comes from charitable donations from many sources. HOURS, CHANGES, CONSTRUCTION


1. Heroes Lounge changes hours Heroes Lounge inside Cascade Community Center is open Wednesdays for free bar bingo with food purchase, Thursdays and Fridays in the afternoon and evening, and Saturdays starting at 8 p.m. (if a UFC fight is airing, doors open early). It is closed Sundays through Tuesdays until football season begins. 2. Soldiers Field House fields closed The softball fields at Soldiers Field House will be closed and off-limits for physical training, unit training and recreation during construction of the Aviation Apron Project for approximately two years. 3. JBLM road closure update Pendleton Avenue is currently closed in both directions from 7th to 12th streets; from 14th Street to 41st Division Drive; at the 12th Street intersection: and from 41st Division Drive to 2nd Division Drive. These sections are scheduled to reopen June 1. By mid-May, 14th Street is scheduled to be complete, allowing commuers to access the Lewis Main Exchange and Commissary. 4. EXTENDED TRAFFIC INTERRUPTIONS: Detour routes and road closures will be clearly marked." For information contact (CENWS-CD-FL-NF/253-584-5937). Scheduled to be completed in November 2013. Work elements will include grading, storm drainage, hotmix asphalt (HMA) paving, cement concrete paving, traffic signal systems, sewers and water mains, illumination systems, landscaping, erosion control, traffic controls, decorative concrete, and coordination with other utilities.
