M, Abdelsalam, Hanadi M. Private vs. Pubic School Education as a Predictor For Success For Female Students at a Pricate University in Saudi Arabia. Researchers world: Journals of Arts, Science, and Commerce 3.1 (2012): 1-7. Academic Search Complete. Web. 8 Mar. 2013. This article discusses the stereotypes associated with both public and private education. It compares and contrasts long-term outcomes of students from both public and private education backgrounds. The authors argue that although there is this stigma associated with private schools providing a much better education. Research has shown that low-income students in public education generally did as well as peers in private education. Although this source has research pertaining to a University in Saudi Arabia, a lot of the general information about public vs. private is extremely relevant for my injury project. I plan to use this article to help construct a foundation for the public and private images. I can also use this to show that the private and public educations tended to have similar outcomes.

Shelly, Bryan. Money, Mandates, and Local Control in American Public Education. Ann Arbor: University of Michigan, 2011. Print. 10 Mar. 2013. School Finance and General Intergovernmental Funding, this chapter focuses on the relationship between state educational funding and local control of public education. This book also goes into great detail about the affect of U.S. federal

Sierra 2 and state contributions on local autonomy, and the linear correlation between the amounts of funding a school receives and the control it proportionally receives. Shelly focuses on this linear correlation with money and control. He focuses in on the autonomy within public education. The amount of autonomy in this case tended to decrease similarly as money increased. Although this book only focuses on one small aspect of my inquiry project I plan to use this in my paper to discuss how money provided by the government also hands control over the public sector proportionally. I agree with Shelly that it is a strong linear correlation.

Pedro, Teixeira, et al. Myths, Beliefs and Realities: Public-Private Competition and Program Diversification in Higher Education. Journal of Economic Issues 46.3 (2012): 678-703. EconLit. Web. 8 Mar. 2013. This article discusses issues of diversification in higher education and the outcomes associated with a private education. It strives to differentiate the patterns and outcomes between private and public education sectors, and possible explanations for these contrasts. The author argues that the private sector of education helps to push a competition that drives the education market. The author also argues that there is a lack of diversity in the private sector. I will use this source in my paper to identify some of the strong contrasts between the public and private education sectors. I also plan to use this to point out the fact that as the government is trying to cut costs in the budget, this increases the favor towards private education. I agree with the writer about the occasional lack of diversity in the private sector. This gave me insight about the specialization associated with

Sierra 3 the private sector, and how this can affect success outcomes. I plan to look into the different programs that are offered in both private and public education systems.

Holmlund, Helena; McNally, Sandra; Viarengo, Martina. Does Money Matter For Schools?. Centre for the Economics of Education. 27 pp. (2009): 1-22. ERIC. Web. 13 Mar. 2013. This article focuses on the effects of raising expenditures in primary schools in England, over the course of eight years. It focuses largely on the data collected over this span of time in relationship to both the outcomes and cost effectiveness. The data consist largely of the statewide testing done in England because it was a good across the border observation. The author attempts to settle a long-standing argument on whether money has an effect on education. The focus is on the public education system. The author believes that by excellent methodological design and data over the eight years will tell if the governments increase in education spending is proportionally linked to a better education. This source consists of a lot of science and lab type readings. Therefore I plan to use this largely for its data. I will also analyze the conclusion that goes along with this data. Stating that the governments increase in school spending over the past few years has been worth the investment.

Wane, Joanna. The Private School Debate Are They Worth The Money? North and

Sierra 4 South. 8p. (2012). 32-41. MasterFILE complete. Web. 13 Mar. 2013. This article analyzes the debate about whether private schools are really worth the money. The article does a great job comparing and contrasting the reasons a person would chose a private school and how this decision would affect the student in the long run. This article raises a lot of great points about attention, and teacher effectiveness. It also looks at things in different angles such as the fact that private schools save the government up to $200 million dollars a year. This is money that would likely be spent on those students if they were part of the public education system. The author argues that a lot students only go to private schools for the extra attention one might need if their parents are unable to provide the desired amount needed in a public education. I would absolutely use this key idea to form my own analysis in my inquiry paper. The author raises another great point that much of the students success is also linked with effectiveness of teachers more than the money or even resources. The author shined a new light on the private education for me by identifying it as a business. I agree with this comparison and I believe it could add a new dimension to my paper. Private schools make the business into a market, a shopping market, where you can research them all and pick the one that best fits the student. Whereas public schools you go where youre put, and this may not always suit the student well.
