In this course, you will continue to develop your skills on the brass, woodwind or percussion instrument that you already know how to play. You will spend most of the class time playing your instrument, refining your instrumental and music reading skills. Music listening, analysis and composition exercises are also part of the course. In class, you will have the opportunity to perform in a large group, in small groups and on your own, and you will be encouraged to join the extra curricularJuniorBand. This course is for those new to playing a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument. Music...makesthepeoplecometogether. Madonna had it right. In vocal music class we create a community of singers who support each other in the learning process. Students sing together in warm ups, as a class, in small groups and solos! We record our performances and collect the most memorable ones on a CD at the end of the course. In order to become better performers, students sharpentheirskillsreadingmusic,improvising,listeningandrespondingtoavarietyofmusicandbycomposinganoriginal songusingcomputersoftware.

This course gives students the opportunity to explore their technical and compositional skills by applying the elements of dance and the tools of composition in a variety of performance situations. Students will generate movement through structured and unstructured improvisation, demonstrate an understanding of safe practices with regard to themselves andothersinthedanceenvironment,andidentifythefunctionandsignificanceofdancewithintheglobalcommunity. This is an introductory level art course that every student can succeed at. Thegrade10coursebuildsontheskillsthatyoudevelopedingrade9,asyouplayinmorecomplexrhythms,metres,and keys, and perform music of the Romantic era. You will continue to spend most of the class time playing your instrument, with written and listening activities supporting your performance work. Performing as a full class remains the focus of the course, but you will have added opportunities for small ensemble work. Studentsinthiscoursebegintoplaymoreadvancedarrangementsofsongsfromavarietyofgenresandcultures.Musical pieces are performed in solo, duet, and threepiece ensemble settings and skills in reading chord charts and music notation continue to be developed. Students also begin to improvise lead guitar solos and study the structure of blues music, while also learning about the history of the blues and making real world connections to current popular music. Workplace skills such as team management and group project development are developed through extensive work in duetsandensembles. Prerequisite:AMG2OB

This is an introductory course in which students learn popular songs, chord accompaniment, singlenote melodies, music reading, as well as rhythm and lead guitar skills. Musical pieces are performed in solo, duet, and ensemble settings. Students also begin to improvise lead guitar solos and study the structure of blues music, while also learning about the history of the blues and making real world connections to current popular music. Scale and chord theory is also introduced, with students studying The Modes, completing a modal composition and notating it using current music computersoftware. Prerequisite:none BacktoOverview

This project and activitybased course allows you to experience the Arts in a new way through integrating different art forms and styles. You will have the opportunity to work on artistic elements of reallife events and/or publications in the school. This course will not be a traditional Art or Music course. The class will work on specific class projects such as creatingapagefortheyearbook,paintingsetsforamusicalordramashow,programmingbackgroundmusicforanevent, etc. Students will be using the skills from their previous music or art courses in a new way, and it is not another year of painting,oranotheryearofguitar. This course requires students to experiment individually and collaboratively with forms and conventions of both drama and theatre from various cultures and time periods. Students will interpret dramatic literature and other texts and media sources while learning about various theories of directing and acting. Students will examine the significance of dramatic arts in various cultures, and will analyse how the knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their personal skills,socialawareness,andgoalsbeyondsecondaryschool. This course is for players on any band instrument who wish learn to play, compose, arrange and improvise in a variety of jazz styles. Your performance, analysis and theoretical skills are integrated in a more sophisticated way in this course. You will perform more complex works, compose and arrange in a variety of styles, and learn about several types of Classical and Modern music. Small ensemble and solo performance work have increased importance in this course, but you will still perform as a full class. The added performance experience from being a member of the Senior Band is strongly recommendedforstudentsinthiscourse. Prerequisite:AMI3MI
