The Effects Linked to Christianity

It is widely believed that 33.3% or 2.1 billion people on earth are self-proclaimed Christians. (Graziall, What percentage of the worlds population is Christian?) These people go to church, celebrate Christmas, or just generally believe in God. Christianity has many positive and negative effects on people and the world around us. It is an interesting belief in that it is separated, most heavily by: Christians and social Christians. Christianity as a whole is having an effect on things like wars, the end of social injustices, free services and discrimination. There are many negative effects linked to Christianity. Many wars were started because of difference in opinion about religion. Some of these wars are: the thirty years war, Sudanese civil wars and the Lebanese civil wars. About 9 019 000 people died in just these three wars combined. (Lee. The early stages of combat in the Lebanese civil war; Pike. Sudan civil war; White. 30 Years war) Many people were killed during the holocaust 1, the witch trials 2, the crusades 3 and the inquisition 4 outside of war time because of Christianity. (Muffie, What are some of the negative effects that Christianity has on the world?) The bible states that: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be damned (Saint James, Mark, 16:16). Although there seems to be death included with most of the negative effects of Christianity there are good effects too. In the 1860s in Britain Christian men and women fought for women to have the right to vote. Another great societal problem that Christian people fought to have abolished was slavery in Britain. (BevKay, Impact of Christianity on human society.)Nowadays Christian churches do good deeds by providing services all over the world after natural disasters or other unfortunate events. Also nowadays churches tend to provide free services such as child-minding, groceries and support groups for the needy. (M, What are the positive effects of Christianity throughout history?) There are also numerous charities created by Christians to help others, such as: Samaritans purse, world relief, world vision and AIDS care fund. (The Darwin papers, Charities based on Christs teaching.)These charities help non-Christians as well as Christians. They dont discriminate. The ongoing fight between Christians and Jews is an interesting thing. When the bible was originally written, the writers wrote that Jewish people are the spawn of the devil, that they crucified

Jesus and that they will suffer the wrath of God. These seeds planted in the bible grew to become the Holocaust during which many Jewish people were killed. Another occasion of the Slaughtering of Jewish people was in 1190. Throughout the Middle Ages Jewish peoples only approved occupation was money-lending so, in 1190 a gang of dept-owing Christians attacked and killed a great number of the people they owed money to, the Jews. (Erikson, Negative Aspects of Christianity.) All of this helping people is caused primarily by one fundamental statement, the golden rule that says: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This rule which is taught from birth helps people remember to think before they say or act. It also helps people to become more empathetic. There are two problems with this rule. One is that people with no self-respect treat others without courtesy. The other is that this rule has become an often neglected guideline. Christianity is divided up into many subcategories, including: Amish, Anglican, Baptist, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Mormon, Presbyterian, Protestant, Quaker, Roman Catholic and Seventh - day Adventist. (Anonymous. Christian Denominations.)All of these branches have similarities and dissimilarities. Some, like the Mormons are not recognized as Christians by some of the other branches. Our entire world is affected by Christian beliefs, Christian people and Christianity as a whole. We are all affected in one way or another. Whether it be the friendships we make, the wars we start and end, the people that we help or hinder or how we grow personally as people.
