Billing Tape Format

Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION
This document outlines the format of the Billing tape. It should be used as an aid to reading the tapes produced by the HNS LES billing software. Chapter 2 highlights the overall structure of the tape. There is a breakdown of the information contained in the Volume (VOL), Header (HDR) and End-Of-File (EOF) labels. Defined also are the first and last data records on the tape as they contain non-call data. Chapter 3 defines the basic Billing data record structure. The fields are explained as to their use and format. Further explanation for specific types of call are contained in Appendix A. In certain instances the reader will be referred to the SDM, reference [1] for full explanation. Appendix A defines the structure of the individual billing records produced by the Billing Tape Generator. For each record an explanation is provided for each of the fields contained within the record, based on that already given in Chapter 3. Certain fields have more than one explanation depending on the type call e.g. whether the call uses terrestrial and/or satellite routes. Where record structures are defined, field definitions correspond to COBOL conventions. column defines a field in the following manner: - 9 indicates a numeric character - X indicates an alphanumeric character - brackets indicate a number of instances of 9 or X - more than one 9 or X also indicates several characters. X fields are left justified with trailing spaces. 9 fields are right justified with leading zeros. The operational procedures for generating the billing records are described in the Operators Procedures Guide, reference [2]. A PICture

Chapter 2 TAPE FORMAT

2.1 OVERVIEW The structure of the Billing tape is shown in the table below. Indicated next to the labels and datablocks are the lengths of each. Further detail of each can be found in the following sections. VME FIRST VOLUME DATA: VOL 1 HDR 1 HDR 2 TAPEMARK DATA BLOCK 1 DATA BLOCK 2 DATA BLOCK n EOF 1 EOF 2 TAPEMARK TAPEMARK VOL 2 HDR 1 HDR 2 TAPEMARK DATA BLOCK 1 DATA BLOCK 2 DATA BLOCK n EOF 1 EOF 2 TAPEMARK TAPEMARK 86 86 86 2308 2308 2308 86 86 DEC 80 80 80 2308 2308 2308 80 80

SECOND VOLUME DATA:

86 86 86 2308 2308 2308 86 86

80 80 80 2308 2308 2308 80 80

Each data block is made up of ten data records of two hundred and thirty (230) bytes each. This leaves an eight (8) byte filler at the end of each data block. The first data block has a Header Record as its first data record. This holds a summary of the Billing run information i.e. File ID, Run Number and Billing run times. The last data record to be used, DATA BLOCK n in the above table is a Reconciliation Record. This gives the counts of each data type for the data records contained in the Billing tape. Note that the last data record is not necessarily the last data record of the last data block. It will be in the last data block but may be any of the ten records depending on the total number of data records written to tape. Unused data records between the end of the reconciliation record and up to the end of the current data block are filled with "^" characters. Figure 2-1 illustrates the billing tape structure.

Chapter 3 DATA FORMAT

3.1 OVERVIEW OF DATA FIELDS Each call record comprises forty-five fields. The general purposes of the fields is described below. Field Name 1. 2. Data Type Terrestrial Network Picture 99 X Notes Dependent on the direction of the call and call type. See Section 2.8 Identifies the actual circuit used for the call: A = Asynch, (not supported) C = CSDN, (not supported) L = Leased Line, M = X400, P = PSDN (X25), S = SCVF, T = PSTN, X = Telex, space = All other cases. PIN if registered incoming call. Dates are recorded in the format YYYYMMDD where YYYY represents the year, MM the month and DD the day. This field is associated with Time 1. {Time fields are split into two blocks of three: the {first block contains times for the incoming call, the {last block contains times for the outgoing call. {The time format is HHMMSS, where HH represents the {hours, MM the minutes and SS the seconds. Note 7 {provides a more detailed explanation of the fields. This field is associated with Time 4. The format is the same as for Field 4. The address of the calls originator. This will be set to one of the values described in Note 6. The number of message bits transmitted across the satellite for this call. For an explanation of the of the different call types, refer to SDM M5, 8.12. Applies to-mobile for terrestrial originated calls and from-mobile for mobile originated calls. SDM M4, 2.1 defines different classes of mobile. Relates to the level of functionality of the mobile. The destination of the call. See Note 5. See Note 1. Number allocated at point of message submission. Allows user to identify call, operator to trace call. Contains value in range "0 - 199" (successful) or "200-999" (failure). Desired address extension, derived from the original Assignment Request.

Note 1: The Nature of call field is defined as follows. The field is two characters wide, spaces are indicated with a lowercase italic s. Ordinary Call "ss" This is used in message sending for Mobile to Mobile; Mobile to LES and LES to mobile where there is only one destination address. This value is used for mobile originated alerts received in the maritime distress alert packet format. The originator mobile number determines whether the alert is sent to the MRCC or NMDD. This value is used for mobile originated alerts received in land mobile alert packet format. The originator mobile number determines whether the alert is sent to the MRCC or NMDD. This value is used for the first delivered message of multiple delivery call. The corresponding Data Type value for these call records is either 31 or 41 depending on the origin of the call - Mobile or Terrestrial respectively. This value is used for all message deliveries other than for the parent. The linking factor in the call record is the message reference number issued to the originator. The corresponding Data Type value for this call record is either 35 or 36 depending on the origin of the call - Terrestrial or Mobile respectively. An interactive terrestrial user may request an update on a message transfer that it originated. The request and result of a Status Enquiry if from a Mobile or non-interactive terrestrial user.

Note 2: Fields 38, 40, 41, 42 are used for mobile to mobile communications. They reflect the data for the outgoing call. The call volume may change from incoming to outgoing call if the presentation changes (e.g. ITA2 to IA5). Note 3: Fields defined as not used will have the following defaults :X fields 9 fields date fields time fields -> -> -> -> spaces, zeros, "19010101", "000000".

Note 4: For a failed call, some fields will not be filled. The call type and the reason for failure will dictate which fields have valid data. For example, for an X.25 to mobile call, where the mobile address is not known, it is expected that fields for the outgoing satellite call will not be used.

Note 5: The call destination address will be one of the following: Telex PSTN PSDN X400 address Closed Network SAC Mobile number Others First 18 characters of U80 address E163 number X121 address not supported, X400 is addressed using SACs DNID number 1-6 alpha-numeric Special Access Code See Note 6 (point 1) not supported

Note 6: Call Origination will be set to one of the following values: 1. Inmarsat-C mobile number. This will include a F69 or DNIC or Country Code prefix, depending on whether the Telex, PSDN or PSTN network is specified in the assignment request packet, unless the customer configuration is one where no prefix is to be included. Also, if the network specified in the assignment request packet is not Telex, PSDN or PSTN, then no prefix is included. The possible values for the prefix are: Ocean region AORE - 1 POR - 2 IOR - 3 AORW - 4 Domestic - 0 Telex 581 582 583 584 580 PSDN 1111 1112 1113 1114 1110 PSTN 871 872 873 874 870

The same description applies for Call Destination except that the network involved is the destination network used when addressing the mobile, and that the LES does not support calls to mobiles using the PSTN destination network. 2. DNIC + DTE Address in X.121 form. If no DNIC is provided by the PSDN network and the DTE captured matches the criteria for a locally connected DNIC the local DNIC is pre-pended to the DTE Address otherwise the DTE address captured is used. If the PSDN network does not provide a DTE address this field will be blank. 3. Telex Address (Registered) normally derived from the Answerback entry in the LES registered user database associated with PIN used, or if not defined the registered users captured answerback. Where the facility exists this will be derived from the Billing Address entry, providing the entry is set, in the LES registered user database associated with PIN used. 4. Telex Address (Unregistered) as derived from the unregistered users captured answerback if processable, the answerback itself if not processable. If the ADD function is allowed and is used, the address following .ADD in the message text, is used for call records of delivery notifications, in order to assist the client in calculating billing refunds. Unregistered Telex Addresses will only occur for terrestrially originated message submission or message status enquiry. This can include calls from other mobile standards via terrestrial inter-connection. 5. The text "X400_ADDRESS". 6. Member Number in DNID group. 7. Left blank (if call originated at the LES).

Note 8: Cancel Call Records indicate the success or failure of the call requesting the cancel. A success status indicates that a cancel request has been accepted, not that the system succeeded in cancelling a message (i.e. because a call was active). Normally a Cancel Message Call Record is produced, regardless whether it is a Message, EGC, Poll which is to be cancelled. A EGC Cancel and Cancel Poll Call Record will be produced, in the case of EGCs and Polls respectively, when the LES can determine from the Message Reference Number, the type of call to be cancelled. Note 9: Regarding Call Records for data reports involving DNID 0, which are produced as a result of a Poll command originating from the LES operator to stop data reporting, it would normally be expected that such calls are not charged for.
