Chapter 7: Why we should learn this chapter which mentions mainly about emotions and moods ?

? The answer is that no one can deny the fact that employees bring their emotions to work every day, and these two factors affect to employees behavior. First of all, affect is a broad range of feelings that people experience. Emotions are intense feelings that are directed at someone or something. The last one is moods which are feelings that tend to be less intense than emotions and often lack a contextual stimulus. We also think about some aspects of emotions: biology of emotions, the intensity of emotions, their frequency and duration, the relationship between rationallu and emotions, and the functions of emotions. There are several sources of moods which also affect emotions such as: personality, day of the week and time of the day, weather, stress, social activities, sleep, exercise, age, gender. The next point we re going to mention in this chapter is external constraints on emotions. In this section, we look at organizational and cultural influences on emotions. With the organizational influences, some researches show that theres a bias against the expression of negative and intense emotions. In addition, in cultural influences, people in most culture appear to experiences certain positive and negative emotions, but the frequency of their experiences and their intensity do vary to some degree. Moreover, people from all over the world interpret negative and positive emotions the same way. Furthermore, collectivst countres people are mote likely to believe that emotional displays have something to do with their own relationships with the people expressing the emotions, whereas people in individuals cultures do not think that others emotional expressions are directed at them. Emotional labor is an employees expression of organizationally desired emotions during interpersonal transactions at work. Other term we deal with is emotional dissonance occurs when employees have to project one emotion while simultaneously feeling another. We can divide emotions into felt or displayed. Felt emotions are an individuals actual emotions while displayed emotions are the organization requires workers to show and considers appropriate in a given job. Displaying fake emotions has 2 types: surface acting and deep acting. One more thing that well mention is emotional intelligence which has five dimensions: self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy and social skills. Here is some arguments for EI : intuitive appeal, EI predicts criteria that matter and EI is biologically based. Besides, however, EI also has many critics like too vague, cant measured, the validity of EI is suspect. There are many applications of emotions and moods which apply to OB such as: selection, decision making, creativity, motivation, leadership, interpersonal conflict, negotiation, customer service, job attitudes, deviant workplace behaviors.
