Six Dimensions of Health Worksheet Part 1 For each of the following six dimensions of health, list at least one characteristic, activity, belief, or attitude that reflects that dimension in your life. Provide a brief explanation with each example. Refer to Ch. 1 in the text for explanations of these dimensions. Physical health: Is the overall condition of someones body such as body size and shape, susceptibility to disease and disorders, physical fitness, body functions and responsiveness. An activity that is done in my daily life because of my physical disability is range of motion, which helps keep my tendons and ligaments flexible preventing them from locking up. Social health: Is someones ability to interact and get along with others, adapt to social situations, and daily behaviors in society. My belief on this health dimension is that it is important for someones mental health. For example last year I was in an acute state because of pneumonia having to spend 6 weeks in the hospital. If it wasnt for my family and friends continuous visits, I probably would have felt depressed and hopeless. They gave me hope to see the next day and keep myself in a positive mood. Intellectual health: Is someones ability to learn, reason, think clearly, analyze critically, and use brain power effectively in lifes challenges. Also to learn from successes, mistakes, and make responsible decisions. One characteristic about me or activity I do is watch educational television shows like The Doctors, Survivor man, and Dual Survival to broaden my intellect. Environmental health: Is someones appreciation for their environment and the role they play to protect, preserve, and improve environmental conditions. My belief is that the environment plays a huge role on everyones health and wellbeing. An activity I do for the environment is recycle re-useable material. Emotional health: Is someones ability to express their emotions appropriately, controlling them when they are not, and avoiding expressing them inappropriately. This includes self-esteem, self-confidence, self-efficacy, trust, love, and other emotional reactions and responses. My belief is this health dimension helps people see who you are and can determine if you all are compatible or can get along.

Spiritual health: Is someones way of life or a belief in a supreme being based on a particular religious doctrine or value in all life. This goes beyond an organized religion and includes many more aspects off living a balanced, introspective, and meaningful life. My attitude to this health dimension is a positive and I have beliefs that there is a higher being. My belief gives me a sense of hope and do not stress over much or any non-sense. Part 2 In approximately 125 to 200 words, describe health and wellness in your own words using the ideas and concepts for each of the six dimensions of health. In my own words health is the level of functional ability and condition of a persons mind, body, and spirit being free of illness, injury, or pain. Wellness is a persons achievement of the highest level of health possible and maintains this in each of the 6 dimensions. If your body is functioning well, meaning daily bowels movements, blood vessels free of plague, and kidneys filtering blood efficiently you are in good health and your body is functioning well physically. If you have many friends and get along well with others you are relatively healthy and doing well socially. If you make responsible decisions and do not make the same mistakes twice then your intellect is doing healthy and well. If you recycle everything that is recycle-able, or you go green using energy saving products you are caring for the overall health and well-being of your environment. If you express your emotions in a calm and respectful manner you are doing healthy and well emotionally. If you believe in a higher being or lived a balanced life and believe life to be meaningful you are probably healthy and well spiritually.
