Course Description:
This course is intended to introduce the concept of digital portfolio design and implementation in the classroom. Participants will learn some foundations of design and productivity using Weebly and some other Web 2.0 applications that they can use in conjunction with their digital portfolios. This course is intended to run 4 weeks at 8 contact hours. Successful completion of this course will equate to one Professional Learning Unit (PLU) and is defined as earning 80 or more points.

Course Standards:
NETS-T1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments NETS-T2: Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETSS.

a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress c. Customize and personalize learning activities to address students diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources d. Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching

NETS-T5: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. a. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning b. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others c. Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning d. Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self- renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community

(AECT/ECIT Standards) Standard 1: Design Candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to design conditions for learning by applying principles of instructional systems design, message design, instructional strategies, and learner characteristics. Standard 2: Development Candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to develop instructional materials and experiences suing print, audiovisual, computer-based, and integrated technologies.

Objectives:
Explore the educational benefits of using digital portfolios and other Web 2.0 applications as a means of alternate assessment. Discuss how using digital portfolios increases the technological literacy of students. Discuss various components or applications that a digital portfolio might include.

Goals:
Students will design and publish their own Weebly site. Students will create several Web 2.0 applications for practice. Students will embed their presentations into their sites for public viewing.

Assignments:
1. Weekly discussion (25 points): Each week you will have a discussion topic to respond to and you will also be responsible to read the discussion posts of your colleagues to gain valuable insight. Use this opportunity to interact with your peers, as well as share ideas that may prove to be very helpful as you navigate this course and implement these strategies into your own classroom. 2. Web 2.0 application assignments (25 points): For this assignment, students will experiment with using Web 2.0 applications. You will choose at least three of the following applications to explore and include in your final Weebly portfolio. Prezi Go Animate Go View Animoto Bubbl.us Voice Thread Slide Rocket 3. Weebly design and publication (50 points): This course concludes with the final presentation of your Weebly digital portfolio. You must embed 3 Web 2.0 applications into your final assignment and then publish your site live to the Internet.

Weekly Activities:
Learning Module One: 1. Discussion Topic 1: Discuss ways that educators can use digital portfolios in their classroom. Respond to at least two of your classmates posts. 2. Complete the questionnaire to determine skill level and technology literacy and return to instructor via email. 3. View the screencast on set up, design, and publishing of a Weebly website. 4. Review my Weebly as an example of how I use my Weebly website in my classroom. I use this page to allow access for lesson plans and other classroom materials and resources. Learning Module Two: 1. Discussion Topic 2: Discuss applications that you have used and various ways that you may have used them in your classroom. Create accounts for at least 3 Web 2.0 applications that you are interested in using and view the tutorials for each one on their homepages. 4. View my website that I have created as an assignment page for my students digital portfolios. Learning Module Three: 1. Discussion Topic 3: Discuss the various Web 2.0 applications you experimented with last week and evaluate which ones you thought would be beneficial to use in your classroom. In your opinion, discuss positives and negatives of these applications. Respond to at least two of your classmates posts. 2. Begin to design the layout of your website. List the pages you want to use in your classroom and the different apps that you plan to use. Give a detailed explanation for how you intend to implement these applications and what purpose they are intended. Submit this assignment to your instructor in a Word document. 3. Create your digital portfolio using at least 3 Web 2.0 applications and publish your site live to the Internet for public viewing.

Learning Module Four: 1. Discussion Topic 4: What is the most beneficial thing that you learned in this course and what topic would you like to explore more about? Respond to at least 2 of your classmates posts. 2. Discussion Topic 5: Post the URL to your Weebly. 3. Review at least 3 of your classmates digital portfolios and give them feedback on their sites about things they did well or could improve on. 4.
