GENERAL LIGHTING SERVICE-rro,

These lamps will operate in any posilion o{ burning, but the liqht maintenance, particularly in Iamps of higher wattage sizes, is best when lamps are burned vertically base up. The data on light (lurnen) mainlenance given in the lechnical summary apply to this burning position only.

r1s and r2o

vorts

INSIDE-FROSTED DINISH The liqht absorbed

by inside lrosting is so negligible (the lumen output is rated the same as {or clear lamps) that these lamps are recommended for most general lighting purposes to provide added dillusion and. in the case of indirect lighting equipment, to eliminate siriations and harsh shadow e{lects.

CLEAR fINISH-CIear bulb lamps are satisfactory for use in adequately shielded rellectors or diffusing equipment which protect the eyes lrom the irritating el{ecls and inel{iciency which glare produces. They are used also in {loodlighting and miscellaneous special applications requiring reasonably accurate contlol of light. WHITE BOWL FINISH-The lisht output oI white bowl lamps is approximately 3 per cent less than that of clear or inside-{rosted lamps. They should be burned base up only and are recommended {or use in open-type equipmenl such as the RLM Dome reflector to improve the quality o{ illumination by minimizing direct glare, reflected glare and deep shadows. These {actors, as well as adequate amount of liqht, deterrnine the ef{ectiveness oi the illuminatior.

These new lamps represeni departures lrom former gaseous conductor and mercury vapor sources in that they are provided with conventional screw bases and are adaptable to common types ol rellecting equipment. The principle of operation is that ol a merculy vapor arc or {low o{ current between the two main electrodes located at the upper and lower parts ol the bulb, The operating characteristics ol these new Iight sources are such thai each lamp requires a special transformer or regulating
