They are used also in {loodlighting and miscellaneous special applications requiring reasonably accurate contlol of light. WHITE BOWL FINISH-The lisht output oI white bowl lamps is approximately 3 per cent less than that of clear or inside-{rosted lamps. They should be burned base up only and are recommended {or use in open-type equipmenl such as the RLM Dome reflector to improve the quality o{ illumination by minimizing direct glare, reflected glare and deep shadows. These {actors, as well as adequate amount of liqht, deterrnine the ef{ectiveness oi the illuminatior.

S-IN-SERIES LAMPS These vacuum lamps operate S-in-series on the trolley voltage and are used Ior general illumination, destination signs, etc, Individual lamp voltage to the nearest S-volt step is I ol the average trolJey voltage applied to ihe lamp circuit during the period in which the .lamps are i n use. The 36 and 56-watt lamps provide more satis{actory per{ormance when operaled in the base-up ve ical position. 30-VOLT CUTOUT LAMPS These lamps are gasfilled and ale more efficient initially and throughout lile than the S-in-series lamps. The number o1 lamps required per circuit is determined by dividing the trolley circuit voltage by 30. Each lamp is equipped with an automatic short-circuiting element which cuts the lamp out of the circuit and prevents arcing
when the lamp burns out.

installalion o{ a su{licient number oI Photoflood lamps would not be convenient. The lamps may be llashed with two or more cells of llashliqht or dry baltery or on standard lighting circuits. The Photollash lamp No. 7 is designed for news photography. Its small size as well as its long period of {lash appeals to lhe amaleur as well. The No. I0
wilh a duration o{ about 175Oth second. They are especially applicable Ior action pictures, which require extremely short exposures, and under conditions where no power supply is available or the

The No. 15 is designed {or news photography and, while il resembles the No, 10 in size and appearance, the character ol the {oil used increases the duration and power ol lhe flash. The No. 20 is designed {or general and news photography, and the No. ?5
Ior color photography and large-area work. At the verv peak-ol its {lash the light intensiiy of a Photollash lamp-No. ?5 is equivalent to that lrom more ihan {ive-hundred general-service lamps of the lO00-watt size. The increased duration o{ the llash o{ the No. 7 and No. 15 is use{ul to the candid camera fan' It is recommended that a reflector always be used with MAZDA Phoio lamps to utilize light which would otherw.ise be wasted. A rellector screens the operator and increases the illumination on the subject by three to live tirnes. Photollood lamps, {or use on slandard lighting circuits, produce a large amount oI light ol high photoqraphic elliciency. The color quality is conitant in value and is perlectJy suiied to the newer r:anchromahc {ilms and plates. This makes possible Lome movies and po rails, and greatly lacilitates the operations o{ commercial pholographers in their sludio and out-of-sludio work.
