The whole courtroom was filled with jubilation as the judge said case dismissed by the rejoicing farmers as they claimed back their own land from those stingy and greedy businessmen. It was such a milestone for me who barely started my career in law as a prosecutor-one of the big achievements I have made in my life was to win my first case in court, 6 months after I took my oath as a licensed lawyer. Seven years have passed before I achieved the most prestigious (and I thought was impossible) goal. My feeling of being uplifted skyrocketed to where I almost cant handle the pleasure and pressure of this mountain-high responsibility nevertheless, following the rule of elegance and simplicity, I carried on. 7:30 p.m., on a certain February 16, a month and 6 days before I will be holding office in my new job, when I arrived at the Acacia Hotel Manila at Alabang, Muntinlupa City to host a little dinner party where I had 16 VIP guests. 16 individuals who have already established themselves and those 16 individuals each played a role in my teenage years and somehow helped to shape my character. At the entrance of the restaurant (which is ranked 5-star) I spotted four men having a chit-chat, and then I realized the tallest man was Admiral Hector Sarita Jr. together with him is Captain Christian Louie Foliente, Colonel Kim Luis Mantiza, and Lieutenant Col. Kenneth Ian Dela Cruz they were among the bravest seamen in the country. First to notice me was Captain Foliente who greeted me: Good evening Atty. Solaiman, long time no talk, how have you been? And congratulations on your success! he said happily as we shake hands. Good evening too and thanks for rendering your service to our country Captain I replied. No problem Atty., my passion is my duty. Captain said. We both laughed just like high school days. Following Captain, the other three men greeted me with a salute Good evening Chief Commander! they speak in unison. Good evening too Admiral Sarita, Colonel Mantiza, and Lieutenant Col. Dela Cruz look at what we have here, these guys are really terrific. Good Job guys! I replied. Congratulations on your achievement Chief! Lt. Col. Dela Cruz greeted me. Thank you Lt. Col.! I responded. Bespren, how are you? Congrats for your accomplishment! Colonel Mantiza said. Colonel Mantiza! Where are your manners? Admiral Sarita opposed Colonels words. Calm down Admiral Sir. said I to the admiral. I was just trying to restrain him from any further disrepute Atty. he explained. Before anything else, lets proceed inside the restaurant, I cant wait to meet the others. I said. Allow us to escort you Atty. admiral suggested. As we entered the Prime Restaurant, two head chefs welcomed us, one of them who was fat spoke with a familiar voice, Good evening and welcome Atty. Solaiman, we are the head chefs of this Resto, Im Chef Michael Xavier Dela Pena and this is Chef William Cabayacruz. Oh! Is it really Michael and William? So you are the head chefs here in this restaurant! exclaimed I. Thats right Atty., by the way congratulations on your achievement. Chef Michael said. Congratulations too Atty., um, over there is the table we reserved for you. As requested, it is our largest, finest, and grandest table. Some of your guests already arrived said Chef William, pointing at the big and convincingly fine table at the center of the restaurant. Thank you, Chef William. I replied. We strolled to the said table, and as we were approaching, I noticed there were two men having an almost heated conversation. One of the five seated there stood up and greeted me. Good evening Atty. Amira Solaiman. How many years has it been? You look just like when we were in high school, but you look prettier now. I smiled. John Bryce, youre more of a real man now. Hey look! Youre taller than me now. we both laughed. Congratulations. He gave me a pat on the back. Thanks John, I heard you were managing a family business? I asked. Yes, I have my own mall now, the JBN Star mall. He proudly said. You see, aside from business, I still go on with my fervor. I just came back from working abroad for 2 years as a programmer of Microsoft. I co-developed their newest software but Im not going to spoil about it yet. Here he handed me an invitation before the year ends, I am getting married. I hope you could be one of the officiators of the ceremony He continued. Oh congratulations John! I will be attending for sure! I happily accepted his invitation. All the other seated stood up and they greeted me too Good evening Atty. Solaiman! standing from the left of John Bryce is a beautiful lady, Ms. Makizza Imelda Lozano, Good evening Atty. I missed you! Love love! she hugged me tightly. I missed you too. How are you? I replied. Im doing well. Cause Im now a flight stewardess at NAIA. answered Makizza. NAIA? You mean the best airport in Asia and the airlines that have the strictest selection of employees? Good job Kizza! said I. Thanks Atty., congratulations on your success! she smilingly said. I turned to the guy next to her and realized it was Engr. Kenette Seril. Good evening Atty. around the world, from London to California, to Jordan and to Japan. I answered the engineer. Well, yes Atty. for work purposes. Engineer said. At the right of John is a familiar man, Im pretty sure its Ronniel. Mr. Bernardo? I asked. Yes Atty. Good evening and Congratulations! he greeted me. Thank you Mr. Bernardo. Mr. Bernardo said. Good evening Atty.! How are you? the guy next to him accost me. I was astonished by the eyeglasses man, but I quickly recognized him. Oh! Erran hi! How are you? I asked him surprisingly. Im doing well. Im working now as a geologist at the Philippine Geologists Association. Here Atty. I brought you a gift its a manga (comic book) I wrote and published. This is actually the third volume already. It was released just yesterday. He said happily. Oh yeah I know, I was waiting for the third volume to come out, I already have a copy of your first two volumes. Thanks! I replied. Oh is that right? Thank you for buying my manga Atty. Here its the deluxe version. He said handing me the book. After exchanging greetings, we finally sat down and I catch a glimpse of my watch, its almost 8:00 P.M. Two men and two more women arrived at the restaurant and as they draw near me, a beautiful woman smiled sweetly at me and said, Good evening and congratulations Atty. Solaiman. The lovely woman said as she handed me a bouquet. Atty.Pearl Mariam De Castro !! I exclaimed. She hugged and kissed me at the cheeks, and replied I missed you so much! I missed you too! she responded. Im sorry to be late, I rushed here from work. She explained. Oh, right, you are a congresswoman now. I agreed. What more is your position now compared to mine Atty? she said and we both chuckled. Another woman beside Atty. De Castro was smiling. Oh! Its Dr. Ma. Charmaine Odessa Agcanas! I said. Yes Atty. Its me. Good evening and congrats! she answered. I heard you represented Philippines in a number of conventions worldwide. I said. Yeah I did attend a few. she laughed. Im currently working as a Psychologist at Dr. Ikbalas hospital. She continued. I looked at the man next to her. Good evening Atty. its me, Dr. Muh. Nur Avicenna Ikbala. said the tall doctor. Good evening Dr. Ikbala Im glad you made it though you were busy at your hospital. I said. I really wanted to attend this party to congratulate you and reunite with our classmates. Its alright there are a lot of good doctors at my Smallpital(thats what Avi calls his hospital). Dr. Ikbala said. I pass on good wishes for your hospital Doctor. So, you are a neurosurgeon Im told. said I. You heard it right Attorney, Im a surgeon of the brain.Dr. Ikbala agreed. Another man also greeted me good evening, it was Atty. Rodel Santos Congratulations Atty. he said. Thank you Atty. Though you are busy with your current trial in court. I said. Its alright Atty. after the unhampered flow of cases on my desk; I really wanted to breather for a while and enjoy the time with my high school friends. Atty. Santos said. The food was already served to us but the two head chefs have not yet joined us. Atty. De Castro approaches them and asked: Wheres the cake chef? Uh, yes the cake Atty.? Its being delivered. Chef William answered. But what time is it now? Its getting late. Atty. said. All of a sudden, a tall man walked into the restaurant, he was in a generals attire, and everybody was amazed with all the stars occupying his shoulders. Together with an assistant, he handed the cake to the chefs for final touches. He verge upon us and gave me a salute. Good evening Chief Commander Im here to fulfill my promise and as requested, the most delectable and delightful cake, I have brought it with me. He said as he addressed me. Thank you General. I saluted back. It was Commanding General and also Atty. Yasser J. Yasin, the General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Congratulations on your triumph Chief Commander and Atty. Solaiman, It was a great success. He said as we shake hands. Thank you for rendering your services and loyalty to our country General. I said to the general. Of course Chief Commander, it is my duty to safeguard this country. He replied. That night, our batch has finally reunited. All and sundry had a very delightful dinner, we felt as if were just having dinner after the ceremony of our JS Prom as senior students. Well, we just talked about our brand new lives as successful career men and career women, and reminiscing the time back when we were in high school. I guess youre too eager to know what my achievement was, right? Well, listen carefully. One month and six days later, I woke up my first day of work. I put on my formal attire and descended from my house. My official security guards escorted me to my car. I took a deep breath followed the rule of elegance and simplicity entered and drove to my work place with the car plated number 1.
