INTRODUCTION:
The idea behind the field trip was to get more exposure towards outcrops and to observe their patterns and nature. Keeping this in mind the Galudih region of Singbhum craton was choosen by our instructor Dr. KATHAKALI BHATTACHARYYA to serve the purpose. Northern part of the Galudih region was very rich in terms of outcrop pattern and for 7 days it was the field to work on.

GEOLOGY OF THE REGION:

Gaudih is a small village on the banks of the Subarnarekha river near Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. It is situated at approximately 22 38.72 N 86 24.569 E and lies in what is known as the Singhbhum Mobile Belt (SMB) which is bordered by the Singhbhum Craton to the south and the ChotaNagpur Granite- Gneiss Complex (CGGC) to the north. The fold belt is slightly curvilinear and has an approximate E-W strike and is believed to have been evolved during the Proterozoic Satpura Orogenic event. The Singhbhum fold belt is made up of metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks categorized in three domains.

METHODOLOGY:
Fisrt day we went south from our base camp to get an idea of the rock types and to learn the tchniques to be used for recording the data. Moving south from the base camp we reached the river bank and observed the rock types and recorded the data. We followed the following method: 1. The strike of the beds and its dip was calculated with the help of Brunton. 2. Strike and dip of cleveage plane was calculated in the same way. 3. Rock type was observed (it was quartzite). 4. Rocks were looked for primary markers if any. 5. Orientation of Joints were also measured if present. All this data would be next to uselss if we cannot locate ourselves in ther map. For this we also learned how to plot our location in the map. Following method was adopted to locate ourselves: 1. Stand on the most elevated point in your proximity. 2. Find for a feature which is also present in the map, for example ridge, bridge etc.. 3. Look the feature through thr brunton and note the reading. 4. Take reading from atleast three features. 5. Plot the trend on the map, their intersection point will be our location.

OBSERVATION:
We were alloted the region on the north of galudih, near the Maryland Institute of tech. and mangmnt. The data recording was done and it was alongwith ploted in the map. Through our exploration of the area we found many interesting structures, some of them were 1. Plumose strucure 2. Cross beddings 3. F2 folds 4. M-folds 5. Joints sets and joint systems 6. Veins M-folds and F2 folds helped us in recognizing and confirming the Hinge zone, also the dips of the beds also became gentler near the hinge. We were successful in discovering and tracing both the limbs of the fold, it was an Antiform fold with very steeply plunging hinge line.

RECORDED DATA:
