Inez, Upon evaluating Kyle Houston, I feel he needs more development before receiving a promotion.

Taking into account fifteen team evaluations and my personal experience with him, I believe it is necessary for him to develop further before becoming a team leader. Considering the responses from team members, Kyle needs much improvement in listening and facilitating problem solving at meetings as he received at least one zero in each category. His strongest attribute is contributing to the group effort (2.83/3). He attends every meeting, offers ideas and meets all deadlines for the group. Although he refocuses our attention when we stray from the main point during meetings and works to find the best possible solution, he needs to work on being more open minded in this process without being controlling. While in meetings, Kyle struggles with facilitating problem solving in a group setting. He received a score of 2.18 with at least one zero being reported. Listening is Kyle's weakest skill with a score of 1.96, receiving one of the lowest scores possible. It is an essential skill in effective leadership, but with some instruction, I believe we can develop strategies to help him listen more efficiently. He struggles staying focused and critically listening to his peers. There have been several instances in meetings where we have had to repeat what was said at least twice for his sake. Kyle is a good team member, but in order to be a great leader, he can improve facilitating meetings and listening to his team members. I will give Kyle surveys and tests to reveal the aspects of listening that he struggles with and these will narrow down areas to work on and show him how to improve to become a more effective listener. I have a feeling these will reveal weaknesses in critical and comprehensive listening. We can develop strategies such as note taking, questioning, and interpreting nonverbal cues to put into practice so that he will be ready for the next open position. If Kyle's listening develops, his contributions and interaction in team settings will likely improve. By listening and respecting others' opinions, he will build a better rapport with his fellow team members, which will give him credibility and respect as a leader. He has the capability but needs supplemental instruction to disclose it. Thank you for trusting my judgment to complete his review and asking for my opinion on his transfer. I enjoy working as a team leader, and it means a lot to me to have your trust.

Thanks,
