TheForumDirector,RuthRasnic,Announces: L.O.CombatViolenceAgainstWomen,wasestablishedin1977inordertofightviolenceagainst women.Thisisaworldwidephenomenonthataffectswomen,theirfamiliesandtheoffenders.The subjectscoveredinourForumwilldealwithverbalabuse,suffering,injuries,painandsometimes lossoflifeduetodomesticviolence,whichcausesimmensehumansufferingandeconomicloss. Medicaltreatmentforvictims,educationalandpsychologicalhelpforvictimsandtheirchildrenandthe inabilityofthevictimsandtheiradultchildrentofunctionproperly,isagreatlosstosociety. Abusivemenalsocostalargesumforgroupandindividualtherapy(ifandwhentheyagreeto treatment),policeresources,costofincarceration,aswellasthejudicialsystem.NationalInsurance paymentsareoftenrequiredtoprovidealimonyandchildsupportforthevictims. We,taxpayers,arecalledupontofootthebill! OurForumisaplacetobringtolightthepain,thesuffering,theeconomicimpactandtogether,find waystoeradicatetheterriblephenomenonofdomesticviolence.
