THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

In the past few months, several of us met in Bible study discussing Erwin McManus book, Uprising. I would encourage you to pick up a copy for your personal enjoyment. In one particular chapter, he writes, How would it change the work of the church if our measure of effectiveness was not how little sin was being done, but how much good was being accomplished? Thats a great question. You see, you were created for more than just existing. You were created for Gods purpose and you are to use your life for His glory; for His good. McManus also writes, There comes a point in life where you are not supposed to be full of potential; youre supposed to be full of talent, capacity, product. Potential is a glimpse of what could be, yet there must be a shift from where we have potential to where we are potent. If you are young, and someone says, You have much potential, then that is a compliment. But at what point in life, does that same statement about you lose its flair? If you get to the later years in life and someone says, You have potential, now that same statement is a sad reflection of a life that never became what it was meant to be. You are not to die with potential! Use your life for God! You are born with potential, but you are called to live a productive life. So the question is, are you potent? You matter to God and you have something to offer in this life. Pray about that this week. Ask God to squeeze every bit of potential out of you and may you live a life of excellence for the King. In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SENIOR SAINTS IN THE SMOKIES: On Monday, I forwarded 8 registrations for this great senior gathering, which meets on the Johnson University campus in Knoxville, Tn. (These included the Roses, Tinglers, Trimmers, S. Mooney & J. Noble). There is still time for you to be included. I think this will be my 23/24 year to attend. I have, always, found it to be spiritually uplifting and refreshing. The program includes instruction and entertainment, as well as ample leisure time. (This year, the Florida Boys quartet will be singing and Marshall Leggett will be speaking.) We are attending May 27-31. We will be utilizing one of our church vans for transportation. We, always, enjoy the special fellowship we have as we travel together in our vans. If you have questions or would like registration information, see me! You can view a poster on our main bulletin board.
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

This week (April 21) we will consider Aquilla and Priscilla, the Tutors in our series on the Friends of Paul. In coming weeks, we will be examining Apollos, Philip and Demas. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Once again, I remind you that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening. WEDNESDAYS: We are continuing our series of lessons on the epistle to the Philippians. Chapter 4 will be our focus this week (April 24). I want to invite you to join either the 10:00 am or 6:30 pm study groups. We cover the same material in each session. On May 1, we will begin a study of Colossians. FINAL THOUGHT: A man who tries to carry a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.

Last week in Children's Church, we learned about trusting and obeying God. God asked Abraham to sacrifice his one and only son, Isaac. Abraham obeyed God. When he was just about to kill his son, God stopped him. He knew that Abraham trusted God with everything that he had. We learned that this story is very similar to another story in the Bible. Jesus. God also had to sacrifice His one and only son. Do we trust God with everything that we have? Are we willing to give up what we love the most in order to obey God? It's a tough question, and one that we must strive to improve on each day. Hannah

The LORD is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. 2 Your throne, O LORD, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past. 3 The floods have risen up, O LORD. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. 4 But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore the LORD above is mightier than these! 5 Your royal laws cannot be changed. Your reign, O LORD, is holy forever and ever. My first memory of standing at the edge of the ocean was one of amazement. I was astonished to realize you could get in a boat and cruise for days and not see land. Even more astounding was the first time I waded out into the surf, thinking I would go for a swim. When the first wave broke over me and knocked me down it seemed seconds turned to minutes as I was tossed around under the water. The ocean is an overwhelming force, more powerful than words can explain. The psalmist here reminds us that the ocean is nothing compared to the one who created it and contains it. Before there was an ocean God was there. He is still here and deserves our adoration, our awe and wonder. He deserves our worship.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
